Avoid the property
For a property located on an island with loads of underwater activities, this property is poorly set up. When asked for help to work around, the property has nothing to offer and say things like "dry your equipment in the dryer" 🤦. We encountered so many more issues (parking lot being a clusterf***, insects in our room biting us, etc), but suffice it to say, this property doesn't live up the Marriott Branding or the 4 star rating.

Not a real resort
Other than a nice pool this is not a “resort”. I’ve seen better towels at a Marriott Courtyard. The internet connection is constantly interrupted. No restaurants other than one that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pretty but way overrated.

Convenient, clean, standard Marriott
I only stayed one night at the Marriott on the Big Island, and it was a solid, standard Marriott experience. The room was clean and comfortable, just what you’d expect. While the ocean is accessible, it’s a bit farther away due to the lagoon, so don’t expect beachfront views right outside your window. On the plus side, the location is convenient with a mall close by for quick shopping or dining. Overall, a good spot for a short stay!

Awful rooms
As many reviewers have noted, the regular rooms are moldy and the beds are hard. Bedding is thin. I slept poorly. The room is like a motel. There are vacation club and updated rooms elsewhere on property, and I imagine those are the good reviews. In addition, I was accosted no fewer than once a day to purchase a timeshare. The company is putting people in crappy rooms and then approaching them to opt into a timeshare for a better room next time. Shame on Marriott. I will not stay here again.

Waikoloa Beach Marriott on Kona (Big Island)
The Waikoloa Beach Marriott in Kona (The Big Island) is an absolutely incredible experience, not just a place to stay. The hotel is gorgeous, open lobbies and decks, fabulous pools, magnificent landscaping (they use lava rocks for walls and railings etc) and the beach view is wonderful. There is a beach walk path that goes along the beach to other resorts, which is a nice walk. The room was positively outstanding! We loved this resort!!!
