Mice in the room
I really wanted to leave a positive review but I cannot. On my last day there was a mouse running through my bathroom. I am terrified of rodents! Called the front desk no one came. They tried to say we didn’t see a mouse but we did! They did nothing.

W Panama
We liked the location as it was far from a very loud old town. The concierge was very helpful and had great recommendations, thanks Yamal! Housekeeping and dining weren’t on par with W hotels unfortunately. With Fine Hotels and Resorts you can have breakfast included which is always a plus for a family or 5, and during the holidays they extended breakfast until 12:30 which was really nice.

Luxury in the tropics
Stayed 3 nights right after Christmas and booked a breakfast rate. The hotel room was great and actually had a view of the water in the distance. The room layout worked for a solo trip but I don’t think it would work well if sharing. The sink area is not separated by a door nor is the shower area. It would have been annoying if someone went to the bathroom and needed to wash hands in the middle of the night or was an early riser who needed to brush their teeth. You’d hear it all and be disturbed by the light. Speaking of noise, the rooms aren’t soundproof and you could hear other guests cough or move the curtain strings. Not ideal but that was the only minus. I rated my stay highly because of the decor, amenities and location. The decor is modern with local design touches. Amenities like pool, full gym and spa were great in between sightseeing. The location was safe and a quick 10 minute drive to Casco Viejo for the night. Food options were good with the breakfast buffet and having the French restaurant Paul downstairs for yummy pastries and quick lunch. I’d definitely stay again. I’m happy I chose it over the Le Meridien which looked dated in pictures and not worth it just for a water view room. This was one of the best W’s I’ve stayed at globally.

No thanks!
I am a true loyal Marriott customer with over 2,500 nights spent in their properties across the world and across brands. I booked the W Panama expecting what the brand stands for: 1) cool property, 2) cool area, 3) solid 5 star experience (the W way). To begin with, the property is average - not a good start. And there is nothing cool with the area so it is puzzling why they chose it for a W. When it comes to stars, one wonders whether there is any quality assurance: from lack of desirable in-house dining and bar options, to a cheap breakfast (definitely not worthy a 5 star and not a W, which often has outstanding breakfast), to the rooms - which are tired and have nothing WOW to them. Not to mention details - no obvious trace of concierge desk, no umbrellas as 'people do not like to return them', etc. I should have suspected that as their New Year party was a buffet in the ballroom as - they told me 'they wanted to attract as many people as possible' (I did not go for it but checked it returning from another venue at is was 'interesting'). A consequence of the above is that they filled up the hotel with deal hunters which, in turn, limited service availability for premium guests. As a lifetime Titanium and Ambassador guest, I must admit I am used to be spoiled. Not at the W Panama: no welcome amenity, mind boggling excuses of why they did not want to upgrade me (the most entertaining was that 'I booked a two twin bed room and suites do not have twin beds'). And, after speaking to the guests service manager things did not get any better. Pity as experiences such as this go a long way damaging a hard built franchise.

Highly recommend
We loved our stay at the W. We would highly recommend. The hotel is gorgeous and has a fun vibe. The staff was exceptional, especially the concierge. He recommended three great restaurants. The central location made it easy to quickly uber to all the attractions.
