It’s a no from me
So the resort itself is nice enough and has everything you could need. However Some of the staff mainly the male bar staff are really inappropriate to myself and my friend which made us really uncomfortable. Another occasion one of the bar staff make again was extremely rude to me when I came to get a drink looking at me as if I was dirt on his shoe which again made me very uncomfortable. We had around 8 power cuts when we were here which I understand the odd one or two but 8 times! Also the food was very very odd there were things like chicken tikka for breakfast? The one evening we went to the main buffet restaurant and were served chicken which had blood coming out of it and the chicken was still pink. I asked to change it but was ignored. Also after sitting in the sun for a few hours I wanted to position my sun bed into the shade which wasn’t in the way of anyone and because they had no sun brolly I pull my sun bed into the hut/games area again out the way. However the lifeguard (who all he seemed to do was sleep) blew his whistle repeatedly at me and I had no idea why and as I tried to explain my Spanish isn’t the best could you please try and explain in English he just carried on waving his hands aggressively and shouting in Spanish. So I used my own common sense and moved my lounger back into the sun as I felt to uncomfortable to go anywhere else The bedrooms were overall very nice and you can tell they have been done up. The housekeepers are amazing and friendly and I can’t fault them! The entertainment staff again amazing and always put on a great show! So overall would I come back here? I don’t think so even though there are some positives there are to many negatives.

The hotel is amazing, everything clean, all people very friendly and absolutely awesome. I want to mention particularly Carolain from the coffee shop, Geraldo, the bartenders Estarlin, Hector, and the entire animation team, javiel, sahir, chema. Abd the restaurants were incredible!! Thank you so much! We will definitely return!

Great
Edwin Ramirez helped us very good with everything we needed during our stay and the check in. We had WiFi issues and he helped fixing it. He is also very kind towards our kids and his English is very good.

The Good, The Bad and The Average
To start, if I could give this a 3.5 on trip advisor I would and would also consider this hotel to be a 3 star plus hotel based on all the points I’ve raised below. As I’m writing this review, we are spending the last couple of days of a 2-week holiday at the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace. We have travelled as a family of 4 including 2 x teens (18 & 15). I’ve split the review into 3 sections; Good, Bad and Average: Good: 1. Beach and sea are beautiful. Beach is well kept and soft sand and sea is glass clear with the safety of being able to walk out quite a distance. 2. A la carte restaurants were all nice (exception was Latino Fusion; we just didn’t like the food that much). The Oriental, Mexican, Italian, Viva Cafe and 25 were all lovely, food was excellent and the staff work hard. 3. Grounds are immaculately kept. 4. Hotel including rooms are clean. 5. Wildlife roaming around grounds and in water are great to watch (Iguanas, Flamingos, Ducks, Geese and Turtles) 6. Coffee shop is excellent and do pretty much whatever you want. 7. Walk from Palace side to Beach side is nice and opportunity to walk off the beer. 8. Snack bar at pool was nice but never changed its menu in 2-weeks (Burger, Hot Dogs, Chips, Tortillas). 9. Weather was excellent for first 11-days and then a Tropical Storm (Franklin) hit the island so last couple of days have been wet. 10. Boat trip to Saona Island is a must. Catamaran to the island and then “speedboat” back with plenty of rum and coke. Apparently Pirates of the Caribbean and Blue Lagoon were filmed there. Bad: 1. Staff do not speak English (some very little). I like to engage and have banter with the staff but found as English I couldn’t do that. 2. Compared to the amount of guests in the hotel(s) there is not enough “comfy” seating areas to enjoy an evening drink. 3. Wi-Fi was rubbish and couldn’t cope with the amount of guests. Forget getting on to internet if weather is bad because everyone is trying the same thing. Average: 1. Plastic cups everywhere and not the most appealing. I get they are needed around wet areas, but they ran out of glasses in the lobby bar regularly and then resorted to plastic. 2. If you like the comfort blanket of hearing English voices, this place probably isn’t for you. It’s predominantly Italian, followed by French, German, Spanish and South American (Viva is Italian). The hotel caters mainly for these nations. 3. Entertainment staff are good but again speak very little English and most of any instruction is in Italian and Spanish. 4. Hotel app is ok but can be temperamental when booking restaurants. It also forgets to tell you which hotel the entertainment is on at! 5. Only one pool on the Palace is a problem given the amount of guests and doesn’t seem to be enough to sun-beds to cater for all and getting up before 7am to get decent beds (in August) is a must. 6.Beer in lobby bar was warm and disappointing when you want an ice cold pint at night. 7. So much wasted space that has potential to be comfy seating/nice bar areas (above lobby in Palace and adjacent to Beach side theatre). 8. We had one of the “un-renovated” rooms overlooking the garden, which was fine but very dated with old dark furniture and dodgy patio door locking mechanism but overall was clean and cleaned every day by the hard working maids. In conclusion, for the price point, the hotel is good but could be so much better than it is, with so much wasted space and ultimately potential. We have enjoyed the stay, however we wouldn’t be in a rush to come back to this hotel.
