Best Rate Guarantee is not true! Bait and switch!

I just booked a stay here for March 31-April 6. I booked directly with the Marriott phone line. I was initially going to book with Priceline since I’m a VIP member and got a good rate but the agent I spoke to said they have a best rate guarantee and would give 25% off the lower rate I find. This is not the case. I filed a claim as soon as I booked and showed them screen shots and the actual link of Priceline showing the lower rate. Their guarantee was they will offer 25% lower than the lower rate found, they only offered 7% and said they can’t independently verify the lower rate I showed even with the Priceline link I attached to my claim. This seems to be a bait and switch marketing ploy to cut the aggregators and book with them directly. Truly disappointing.

Overpriced underwhelming and you will feel taken advantage of

This hotel is fine as a place to sleep, but for the cost it is **grossly** underwhelming and feels more like a low‑tier property than a true resort. Upon check‑in, our room was not properly cleaned, especially the bathroom, which was clearly not guest‑ready. Requests we had made prior to arrival were not honored, adding to the disappointment right from the start. The hotel is full of families and the website advertises a kids club, but there is no kids club, which feels misleading for anyone booking with children. We repeatedly requested information and an events calendar before our stay to understand New Year’s Eve options for our family and received nothing useful. Now that we are here, everything on offer is 21+, leaving us with no appropriate NYE activities for our family. Pool and beach amenities are also poorly managed. There are not enough chairs or towels, so guests have to line up before 7 a.m. just to secure basic seating and towels. The “cabanas” are not really cabanas at all, just beds, and you need to be very careful about understanding their actual locations when booking so you are not disappointed. Dining is similarly underwhelming. There is essentially one menu for the entire property, with items removed at each outlet, so it feels like one restaurant spread across different locations rather than multiple distinct options. Overall, between the cleanliness issues, unfulfilled pre‑arrival requests, lack of the promised kids club, poor NYE planning support, limited amenities, and repetitive food, this stay does not come close to justifying the price and feels like staying at a low‑tier hotel. Sad reflection on Hawaii in general, Westin directly and Marriott overall. We feel taken advantage of. We will make the best of it but for this expensive of a trip it’s just so upsetting.

unacceptable that basic necessities like a functioning toilet & a shower that drains properly are not essentials!!!!!!!!

It’s unacceptable that basic necessities like a functioning toilet and a shower that drains properly are not considered standard amenities at this property. Engineering had to be contacted three separate times just to address essential issues. As an Ambassador Elite Bonvoy member with over 220 nights in 2025, this experience was especially disappointing. If you prefer a non‑smoking environment, be aware: multiple guests were smoking on the lanai throughout my stay. I had to keep my glass door closed instead of enjoying the outdoor view. By day four, the entire floor smelled strongly of marijuana. Staff had to place multiple fans in the hallway, yet the odor still filled both the corridor and my room. It genuinely felt like a college party atmosphere. I spoke with the MOD to share my concerns. I was offered waived resort fees, which I declined. I’m not looking for discounts. I simply expect basic services while I’m in paradise.

    The weather was great.

One of the main reasons you come to the Westin Maui at Christmas is for the beach. The Westin has seemingly farmed out responsibility for umbrellas and chairs to a third party. This company doesn’t have near the equipment to supply the hotel guests with what they need. And for the lucky few that get up at 730a to get said umbrella and chairs, two chairs and an umbrella will set you back 150.00 dollars which is not included in the “resort fee”. Price gouging at an insane level. It was terrible watching the looks on the guests faces when they were told the fee and that they were none left anyway. We often go to the Westin in the Cayman Islands at Christmas sometimes and this umbrella/chair policy is not a thing. We went to the Westin ULU kitchen last night and the food was good. The only problem was the kids menu. My wife ordered the adult portion steak fritte and one of our children had the steak fritte from the kids menu. The steak from the kids menu was of terrible quality. We ordered from the kids menu for portion size not poor quality. The first night we arrived we noticed our bathroom sink was plugged and building maintenance came about an hour later to fix it. When we called up for a bathrobe they forgot to send it and then we asked two hours later and it eventually arrived. I could go on but I’m sure I’ve made my point. The hotel itself is decorated nicely and there wer local singers and dancer which were fun to watch. The bar tenders and servers were very friendly. The house keeping people for the most part looked miserable.
