Great location but awful room and customer support
Stayed in late November, early December for my wife’s 40th. Great location but room was tired and had damp on the ceilings (photos taken for evidence). Room was meant to have a stocked mini bar. Phone not working to call reception. Despite going downstairs to ask for this to be resolved 4 times, nothing arrived. Hotel admitted to fault and agreed to compensation, but after two weeks have not resolved despite repeated promises. A number of emails have been sent by me to the Reception Manager but has resulted in no progress, hence this public review. Really poor for an 5* and regret having booked.

Overnight Stay - Great Views
We stayed here overnight for a theatre break. Great proximity to West End and fabulous views over the river. Staff - Very professional and friendly Room - Lovely and clean, spacious . Needed more information on if the water in the fridge was complimentary or not (I would expect free bottle of water in 5* ) but as there was not any indication if it was complimentary we didn't touch it, the same with the mini bottle of merlot that was on the side, absolutely no indication at all so tap water it was. The fridge contained water, 2 cans of cola and a bag of what looked like chocolates but we didn't touch as figured would be chargeable. Nice touch with the nespresso machine in room. Need a plug next to bed for mobile thankfully I travel a lot so am used to rooms with power on opposite side of room so had a 3 metre cable with me. Only 2 out of the 3 lifts were working and they were quite slow, and in need of a little attention as the wood was all chipped inside. Check out was 11am and we were told on check in best time for us to go to breakfast would be 10-11am we got back to room at 10.50 only to find our keys were not working any more so I had the slow trip from 8th floor down to reception (almost 5 minutes to get down in lift) and it was resolved very quickly he cut us some new keys with no issue. I got back to lift and there was a long queue waiting so I took the stairs, the carpets on landings were threadbare and obviously had water leaks as containers and yellow signs all over place but also smelled musty so suspect this isn't a recent issue which is a shame as the wall decor was beautiful and original by look of it. Would be beautiful if fixed up. Breakfast - hot drinks are bought to your table , I asked about oat milk or alternatives and was told there wasn't any so I had normal milk (I prefer to limit dairy intake due to a mild intolerance hence request) . Hot breakfast was nice as was the prepared fruit section. Overall - Good hotel, views and location amazing

Hotel Payment Discrepancy - Pay by Sterling to avoid over charge
My confirmed reservation for this hotel totalled £1,440. However, upon arrival I was informed that an additional £150 deposit was required for my three-night stay. This payment was processed in euros. Shortly after checking in and going to our room, I received a notification from my bank showing a pending charge of €1,924 from the hotel. I was shocked to see that the amount appeared significantly higher than the confirmed price of £1,440. After checking the exchange rate on 4 December 2025, even with the additional £150 deposit, the total should have been approximately €1,639.18—a difference of more than €300, excluding the deposit. We reviewed our notes and calculations, then returned to reception and asked to speak with the manager. A lady attended to us, and we explained the situation, showing her the pending €1,924 charge on our phone. She appeared surprised that we had this evidence and took our notes away to review advising she would return our notes. Approximately 15 minutes later, the manager returned and informed us that she had cancelled the transaction and that we would be charged the correct amount of £1,440, as stated in our reservation confirmation. She claimed that the discrepancy occurred because we had “chosen to pay in euros” during the transaction. We found it astonishing that this could result in an excess charge of more than €300. Additionally, I strongly advise all guests to request a receipt at check-in. Although we asked two or three times, we were repeatedly told that we would receive a receipt upon departure, despite the payment having already been processed at check-in. No receipt was provided, and our requests were deflected. We were also not informed in advance about the £50-per-night deposit which would be returned if we did not use this in the meantime, and when we questioned this, we were told that “all 5-star hotels charge this.” I expressed my dissatisfaction, explaining that I have stayed in many 5-star hotels and have never encountered such a practice. In summary, I recommend that anyone booking this hotel should insist on paying in sterling at check-in, as the euro payment option appears to result in unexplained and excessive additional charges. Furthermore, guests should be cautious with the express checkout option, as it may cause people to overlook deposit refunds that are owed to them.
