Dec 28, 2025No privacy and no sleep!
The location of the hotel is the main attraction here, and it really is lovely being just a 5 minute walk from the beach front. Other than that, it leaves a lot to be desired. For quite a bit less money, my family could have stayed at any other hotel chain, gotten complimentary breakfast (not included here), and the only difference would be the length to reach a beach. The rooms were fine, if a bit unclean, but the key detail is the walls are ABSURDLY THIN, and all of the doors have open cracks around the door frame to let noise through. You can expect to hear your room neighbor through the adjoining door, and not just muffled noises; I can hear full clear conversations. Do not expect any level of privacy for personal phone calls or conversations with your family, as the people in the room next door will absolutely be able to hear you. You can also expect that there's no enforcement of the "quiet hours" after 10pm, as there were loud noises from drunk parties throughout every night (even week nights) until well past 1am. Aside from that, everything to purchase at the resort, such as drinks or food, is so wildly expensive it's not worth it to even stay within the resort itself, so you may as well get a cheaper hotel elsewhere.

Dear The Island Resort Team, I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the kindness, compassion, and professionalism shown by your staff during our recent stay. Our visit was under very difficult circumstances, as my grandmother had experienced a severe accident and was in the ICU. During such an emotionally overwhelming time, the care and understanding we received from your team meant more to us than words can adequately express. Every staff member we encountered was helpful, accommodating, and genuinely compassionate, often going above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and supported. The accommodations were wonderful and provided a much-needed sense of peace and rest during an otherwise stressful period. Having a clean, comfortable, and welcoming place to return to each day made a significant difference for our family. Please extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a role in making our stay as smooth and comforting as possible. A long awaited and more than pleasant vacation!!!
Had a great experience at the Resort, with the only downfalls being that the rooms were somewhat antiquated, due to the overall building's age and the parking fee. The pools and grotto area were well kept and overall very kool, just wish the water for the grotto was warm enough to have it operational. (To be fair, the time of year played a huge roll there). The (groomed) beach was absolutely gorgeous, sugar white sand and beautiful blue water!!! The staff was awesome, (shout out to Jennifer and Angel), went above and beyond with professionalism, kindness, and promptness. Would definitely recommend a stay!!!

Impressed on the costumer service skills
Great amazing view .. with wonderful breakfast in the morning.. Mrs . Rachel had great costumer service.. wonderful communication skills and was very helpful with every question I had 😂👌🏽 10/10 recommend… thanks for the wonderful experience love .

Family stay at The Island Resort
We enjoy coming to The Island Resort. We live in Tallahassee, Florida. We have are family members from Michigan fly into Fort Walton Beach/Destin airport because the airfare is more reasonable, but it also gives us a chance to bring our loved ones to the beach and enjoy the wonderful amenities, such as the heated swimming pool and hot tub of the Island Resort. We had a comfortable stay, as well as had great service in the restaurant with Lucy. She is very, friendly and helpful and we enjoy the atmosphere and food in the Coastal kitchen.
