Our 7th Visit and we are still in Love with the Fives!!
We have enjoyed the Fives since 2014 and have seen it go through many changes. It is still our go to 2nd home in the Riviera Maya. We have been to the area 36 times now but the Fives has a special place in our hearts and for good reason. Our vacation was made so memorable by so many people but a huge heartfelt thankyou goes to Francisco Perez Torres our wonderful and dear friend, the Executive Chef of the resort. As always this review is a reflection of our trip and whether our expectations were met or not. Front Desk 4.5/5 We were greeted well with a big smile, welcome champagne in hand and told our room would be ready by 3pm. As we know our way around the property, we started our vacation. Came back at 3pm, bell boy was great and the process very smooth to bring us to our room. On departure we paid the environmental resort tax and they greeted us well as we left. Room 5/5 We stayed in building 20 as we normally ask to stay in 19 or 20 in the newer section by the adults pool. Room was a perfect location, view of the pool and nice size. We always book the 1 bedroom suite, as its an amazing space and layout. Our maids were excellent, always smiling and saying good morning, fridge stocked daily, towels changed as required and everything was spotless. AC worked well. Zero issues. We did not use the Ambassador as we booked through our friends we know at the resort but I heard from others they were all great and helpful for whatever needs, you may have wanted. Food 5/5 We started coming to the Fives as it was a foodie resort back in the Azul days. Some things have changed over the years as expected for many reasons, but the food here is of a very high quality, artfully presented and delicious throughout. This trip was our first in early December, as we usually go high season end of January or around Easter. This was the first time the restaurants were combined together French with Mexican, Italian with Sea Olive and the Thai with Sushi. It was new to us but worked out really well. They were in transition doing renos and changing things around but heard the restos would open back up soon. I will say the menus were smaller with fewer options but overall everything you could need. The buffet was reopened and busy and we ate there twice for breakfast but that was it as we love the a la cartes. We had eaten twice at the the Thai/ sushi and I had tried most of the apps and had the duck red curry and chicken green curry. Both spicy and very good. Ate the tempura veggies along with a few makes and sashimi. All very good too. Excellent food by Chef Carlos and service by Esteban the Manager and our waiters were both personable and efficient. Italian and sea olive. Ate twice again. Had some delicious gorgonzola gnocchi, truffle pasta, whole lobster " a treat", mushroom bisque, lamb cutlet, osso bucco which was actually a shank and an arugula pistachio salads.... all excellent. Pizzas are excellent here as well, amazing light dough airy and charred nicely. My old friend Chef Allesandro spoiled us and my dear friend Chef Guillermo as well, who I've known from our El Dorado days. So happy to see him again. Such talented Chefs. The only odd dish I had was a lamb tbone cutlet which hardly had any meat on it and was mostly a bone. Very tasty but an odd cut. French and Mexican Again ate twice there had the lobster bisque, twice the rib eye steak with blue cheese, braised shrimps, lamb chops, goat cheese salad, ate a few Mexican apps and the meat plate in the stone mortar and pestle. Again all the food was delicious for us and presented well for dealing with so many guests. Brasserie and buffet for breakfast were both very good. Fresh food, great variety, great coffees cappuccinos and Americanos. Loved our green juice. For all the restaurants or buffet, every single manager/ hostess/ server were all courteous, respectful and made us feel special and welcome. We had not one bad experience throughout stay. If we had to wait we got a buzzer and waited 20 minutes max . That was our experience. Food at the beach was very good. Meulle ocho/ sea olive for lunch. I stuck to what I know and liked the dishes we chose. Tacos daily by the pool, great burgers hotdogs, delicious pizza, thd most amazing grilled mexican bbq and once paella. All delicious! Mexican fiesta feast night at the beach was beautifully lit up, but since we have done it before we only had local cocktails there and dessert which were very good. Was a nice event. Lastly we were able to book Santa Sirena at the Beachfront hotel beside the Fives. This was a truly memorable meal in so many ways. First the Executive Chef Neftali is a huge talent and so passionate. We had some amazing cocktails by their beautiful mixologist, our waiter Eric was so polite and polished. The food we had the shortrib croquette, seafood tartlet, wild mushroom risotto, octopus and braised veal osso bucco. All excellent and beautifully presented. Chef wanted me to try two mole dishes that he learned from his grandmother. Moles with too many ingredients to name here but both were elevated in taste, spices and the love of his memorable past. . Had an amazing duck confit pastry mole dish and a porkloin mole dish along a fruit bread to match it and finlly a light airy corn dessert with Baileys ice cream. Divine evening, supreme food degustation and experience. The morning homemade tortillaseveryday at the plaza are a real treat as well as the piz,as tgere in the evening. Had an ice-cream cone twice and the health fruit smoothies. Love them. Beach and Pools They are all very nice here. We truly went once to the adults pool but mainly at the beach infinity pools. Beach was very nice, its eroded over the years but to the right of the pier it was very good. Easy access, crystal clear calm water. We swam in it daily and feed the fish with bread. So much fun. Had a Bali bed daily thanks so much to Andres the manager along with beautiful Sophia and Bernede. They always checked in on us to ensure we were great. Sophia was so amazing. A real gem to this resort. Always walking around ensuring everything was clean and staff were doing their jobs. Andres who we've know for years is the absolute best. Pablo was our beach server most days and a true pleasure. Amazing service along with great discussions about our life and his. A ten star service. Also liked Keny and the bar staff at the infinity pool. Bartenders throughout very great and attentive. Love the La Cantina as always. Ulises the mixologist, Alejandro at plaza and the gin bar. Great cocktails, drinks and mucho mezcal and tequilas. My only critiques would be missing the foam party at the adults pool. It seemed really lifeless this year sadly. We missed eating at each resto individually but fully understand why. Missed the breakfasts at the Mexican resto by the pool. Always loved that before. Also the vibe of music, dancing the bar at night by the infinity pool upstairs and Wwatching sports there. Shows in the plaza were all very good. Loved the bands and fire show most. Loved seeing the kids and families enjoying themselves. Again an amazing trip for us once again at our favourite resort. Great memorable experience. We love all the staff. Very attentive and considerate. We especially loved the tequila 1910 bar. Marcos and Ulises are amazing and can make whatever you fancy. Totally recommend ❤️

We went for a wedding and stayed for 3 days. We had a very good experience and loads of fun! We felt very safe.
Location & atmosphere: nice beaches and amenities available. Choice of pools as an alternate option. The rooms were cleaned daily with attention to detail. Whatever we had going on that day, we always came back to a clean and newly stocked room! I believe the value of this stay was worth the monies spent. Very reasonable, safe, and secure. All the staff, with one exception was very pleasant, professional, and easy to deal with.
