I wouldn’t stay here again if they paid me

Despite confirming our reservation 3 times and requesting a high floor (the hotel confirmed the reservation and 6th floor reservations) we checked in and learned they had moved our room to lowest floor the day we checked in. The room we were eventually assigned clearly had a smoker in it. The room, closet and bathroom reeked of cigarette smoke. The room was very dated. Toilet was from another century and required you to touch all surfaces to reach the flush. Sink was cracked. Cleaning staff entered the room without warning at at 9:30 am before we had checked out. And the restaurant experience was about as poor as you could get. Clam chowder appetizer arrived stone cold. Was returned to be heated…then the main course arrived at the same time as the appetizer. We had asked for bread….which arrived after our meal was finished. To pay $50/night for valet parking and for the valet parking to take 30 minutes each time to get your car is ridiculous.

    Great location- rooms need attention

First let me say the positives. The hotel is in a great central location, the communal areas are very beautiful, the bed was comfy and the domestic staff were wonderful. The problem for me is the value for money, the check in process and the general up keep of the rooms. We arrived early for check in and the room wasn’t ready- obviously no problem. The reception staff took our luggage to store and said we would receive a text when our room was ready. Went out for a late lunch and then the actual check in time passed and still no communication from the hotel. We decided to return and ask if the room was ready. Ended up queuing at reception for about 25 minutes- some of this time taken up with staff just chatting to each other- to be told our room was ready, so the text was never coming. No comment on this from reception staff. We stayed in a studio room, an upgrade related to how we had booked the room. The room was nice enough with a comfy bed but there was serious damage and wear and tear to many of the fixtures which just took the shine off of the room- especially since we were paying £500 per night. Examples of issues being the backing peeling of the electric mirror in the bathroom and damage to the unit the TV was sitting on (photographed). The hotel clearly needs to spend some money on room maintenance. There were a couple of other things that irked. Firstly the hotel does not provide complimentary Wi-Fi, something which seems very old fashioned, instead charging guests who are already forking out a high nightly rate $10/day for access. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant on our last morning which was very nice but some of the pricing was just bizarre- $8 for a NESPRESSO coffee- a pod which costs less than $1. And for tea $9- for a tea bag and some hot water? Overall a great location but there seemed to be a lot of hotels in the area and I wonder if these may be better value for money. The Fairmont is relying on the brand and the history of the building to attract customers paying higher rates. That’s fine but they need to at least make sure the rooms are up to standard.

    Grand and gorgeous

What a beautiful grand property! The lobby is gorgeous and the location is central and so convenient. Room was large and comfortable. The furnishings in the room looked a little worn out but nothing too major. Food and drinks in the lobby bar were excellent and service was impeccable. Was a wonderful stay!

Kudos to the Events Team at the Copley!

We recently held a bridal tea party/shower at the Copley that was perfectly executed and enjoyed by all of our family and friends. Our event planner (Lauren Bowker) was amazing. No detail was too small or inconsequential for her. She was professional at all times and promptly responded to all of our inquires within 24 hours. She made everything so very easy! She went above and beyond when it came to realizing our vision. We can't say enough about the entire events team. The food was delicious (thank you Chef Dave); and the events team (Christina, Julio, Barbara, Carlos and Hamid) were friendly, approachable and helpful. Bravo to the Copley for making this special day all the more memorable. We cannot thank you enough.

    Comparable to a 2-Star Motel

Literally comparable to a 2 star motel. Upon arrival, our room was not ready, and we were told that we would receive a text when it was. By 4:30pm, we had not received anything, so we went back to check and were informed that they forgot to send the text. No big deal, but I would have liked to know so we could have went back earlier to settle in. We dropped our bags off and ran back out to dinner. Once we arrived back, the room was extremely stuffy, and the air conditioning was making a loud noise. We had it set for 66 degrees, but he room temperature was 71. I went to the front desk to let them know the issues, and the woman at the desk was extremely dismissive. I told her it was impossible to sleep with the air conditioning grinding and screaming. She went to speak to her manager and came back with a few options. The first was to wait anywhere from 30-40 minutes for a technician to check on the air. This did not guarantee it getting fixed and I explained that it was 10:30 at night and we wanted to get to sleep. We had an early morning. Her next option was to downgrade to a queen bed with no price reduction. Again, unacceptable since I booked a king room. Finally, she said she could upgrade us, but we would have to pay an extra $75 per night. I am not sure why I would need to pay when the room we were given was not up to standard and had a broken air conditioner. She said she would leave a note for the manager in the morning to get back to us if we were unhappy with these options. A technician never came, and the following day, no one reached out. We were never given a new room, never given a follow-up, and only upon check out, when I revisited this issue, was I told that the most they could do was remove the amenity fee of $60. Again, the attitude was rude, dismissive, and very condescending. At the Fairmount Copley, I was expecting a much higher standard of customer service and room quality. The fact we had horrible sleep for two nights because of an air conditioning system that was knocking, grinding, and banging constantly, and a super hot room is disgraceful. On top of this, the room itself was horrible (which I never complained about). The bed was so physically worn that it was on a feline angle. The carpet was stained and ripped in several places, and the bathroom mirror was broken on all sides. To top it off, both times we needed our car from the valet, it was not ready, even though we called and spoke to the desk at least an hour in advanced. Totally unprofessional. I am still waiting for a follow-up, which was promised to me at check out and no one has reached out. There are so many other hotels in this area, don’t waste your money on this one!
