Excellent in Every Way
Michelangelo is a beautiful hotel in an excellent location, a short walk to St. Peter’s Square, with a fabulous view of St. Peter’s Basilica dome right in front of the hotel. But what makes this hotel stand out is its personnel. Everyone is welcoming and accommodating, and eager to make sure you have the best stay ever. Any requests or needs are met with a smile and they will do anything to help you. Chiara and Maria at the Concierge desk are always available, very knowledgeable and friendly and helpful in every way. Yuri and Francesca at the front desk are there to make sure everything runs smoothly, and they do a excellent job. The staff in the dining room is friendly and super efficient especially at breakfast when there are sometimes large tour groups that must be fed and out quickly. Breakfast is plentiful and varied and delicious and dishes are always refilled and replaced quickly so you always can find what you want. If you want a superb experience, we would highly recommend the Michelangelo.

Great Location
The hotel is in a perfect location for St Peter’s Square and good local restaurants. The rooms are not the largest in Rome but are very clean and well appointed. The majority of staff are kind and welcoming. Breakfast can be a challenge with large tour groups commandeering the Dome Restaurant as though it was exclusively theirs. Staff in The Dome are not perhaps the most friendly! Indeed the only place in the hotel where the staff are decidedly curt. The Michelangelo remains my go to hotel when in Roma.

Comfortable stay at hotel!
Nice stay- centrally located - close to restaurants, shopping and the Vatican. Good food. Rooms were nice and clean. A fun bar.

Very disappointing stay.. not worth 4 stars
I’ve traveled extensively around the world, but my stay at the Star Hotel Michelangelo in Rome—meant to celebrate my 50th birthday—was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. From the moment I arrived, the front desk staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. My room was small, and the bed was terrible, with a noticeable dent in the mattress that made sleeping uncomfortable. Breakfast was another major disappointment. My AAA travel agent had described it as “the best continental breakfast,” but it was far from that. For all four days of my stay, the menu never changed: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage (that didn’t taste like either), green beans, and carrots—for breakfast! The orange juice was watered down, and the overall quality was poor. For a hotel marketed as 4 stars and located so close to the Vatican, I expected much better service and amenities. This was not the case. Out of the three hotels I stayed in during my trip to Italy, the one in Florence was the only one that truly lived up to expectations. To make matters worse, when checking out, I was asked for tips for the front desk, housekeeping, and servers—either in cash or added to my card. I have never had a hotel directly request tips like this, especially after such a disappointing stay. On top of that, I wasn’t even provided with a final receipt. Overall, this hotel did not deliver on the promises made by my travel agent or its 4-star rating. I would not recommend it to anyone seeking comfort, quality, or genuine hospitality in Rome.
