We did not appreciate how awesome a snowboard valet could be. Loved our stay.

We'd come back here in a heartbeat. The staff, room, food and service were worth the cost. Pros: * Incredibly friendly and helpful staff: super responsive to any request or question * Spacious and cozy room. The blue spruce jr suite was perfect for two people. INCREDIBLY comfortable and it was great the fireplace automatically turned off. * Bathroom. The heated bathroom floors were an utter delight every morning and the bathroom itself was huge. * ski/snowboard valet. Upon check in they take your boards/skis and boots to a place just a short distance from Gondola 1 (and bring it back when you are checking out). It was fantastic to just walk to/from without gear each day and be able to leave things like helmets, googles and gloves there for the duration of our trip. Didn't think we needed this but we loved it. * cookies are everywhere (ski valet, turndown service, etc). We opted out of turndown service but when we learned we missed out, they immediately sent up 6 cookies (two kinds) * breakfast. We aren't breakfast people but it was included in our room. We had no problem getting reservations at the time we wanted each morning (we did this after arriving at the hotel). The hotel concierge was sort of helpful in booking (we told her between 7-8am) but it was really the host who was awesome: she just asked when would work for me and changed the time to match. * bar. the cocktails were too strong for me and the only champagne option was $$$, but we loved the layout of the bar (lots of places for groups to talk comfortably). We also really enjoyed one of the bands: it was a group of older gentlemen who clearly loved having the crowd participate. Also, their red wine by the glass was a reasonably priced--and good- 2016 Bordeaux. * spa. We only used the hot tub [there are 3: 2 outside and 1 large one indoors] and we used it after getting off the mountain: almost never had to share with anyone. Cons: * toliet paper holder in the room was terrible * no fans in the bathroom * getting hot water for a shower in the afternoon took at least 5-7 minutes of running the water on the highest temp setting (in the morning it took no time at all) * kids (not hotel's fault but still part of our experience). we arrived early in the week and had no issues until Saturday when there were at least 8 kids running around the halls without any adult supervision. This group rang our room's doorbell midafternoon and then ran to the corner to "hide" to see us come to the door confused. Additionally, there wasn't any adult that we could see in the kids club or game room but about 10-12 kids just roaming free in those rooms/ the basement hallway. Unsure: * it was a bit odd that someone came by every afternoon to offer us fresh ice in a new ice bucket as opposed to having an ice machine where we could regulate getting our own ice as needed * the door bell to our room (presumably all) was unnecessary long, and maybe too loud, in its ringtone

    Vail’s best!

Love, love, love the Sonnenalp in Vail. It is definitely a splurge for us but we are spoiled after our first stay and it is now our go to when visiting Vail. Honestly, when choosing where to ski we choose to keep visiting vail because of how easy the Sonnenalp makes our stay. The ski concierge is fantastic and has our boots and skis ready for us right next to gondola one in vail village. The service is exceptional from start to finish. The bellman and front desk greet us (even by name most of the time) as we come and go. The rooms are so clean and spacious. We book the blue spruce suite. The fireplace, heated floor in the bathroom, walk in closet and extra counter space make this room a dream. The housekeeping is outstanding and freshens the room in the morning and brings cookies and water in the afternoon and offers turn down service as well. You can’t go wrong with any restaurants on the property as the food and service are outstanding. Perhaps our favorite part of the Sonnenalp is the kings club. We enjoy getting dressed up before dinner and having a cocktail and listening to the nightly music in the kings club. Sophia made it extra special this time. She was so kind and friendly and made us feel welcome by remembering our drink orders and accommodating our every need. You could tell she loved her job and genuinely enjoyed getting to know her patrons. We know in todays world good help is hard to come by, and Sophia is truly a gem. We look forward to seeing her for spring skiing. The only thing we could recommend is having some complimentary coffee and cocoa available in the lobby/kings club in the afternoon after skiing on a daily basis. We have tried a few properties in vail before trying the Sonnenalp and obviously I couldn’t recommend more! Tip: we find prices are a little better later in the ski season and of course during the week rather than weekends.

overall love of this hotel- STAFF IS EXCEPTIONAL:

We have stayed in this hotel several times over the past 30 years or more and it only gets better. Not only is it beautiful, well positioned in Vail, beautiful views from the various rooms, great food and ambience, the staff is amongst the best I have ever experienced in my world travels. The staff is European in manner and simply cannot do enough for you to make your experience perfect. KUDOS TO:Front Desk- Gerry (Jerry) Andrew, Esmerala, Pamela/ Concierge: Victor, John, Megan/ Server: Julia/ Drivers: Spencer, Jeffrey, Mike. These people made our visit spectacular.

    Great reception at King’s Bar!

I hosted a reception in the King’s Bar. Sophia was our hostess and server. Originally from Argentina, she was exceptional. She accommodated our group by setting up a section in the bar just for us. She left no detail intended and even escorted us to dinner at the Swiss Chalet as it was my first time on the property. The piano music of old favorites made the evening special. Really terrific!

Fabulous Vacation Celebrating Husband’s 60th Birthday

We spent 5 days at the Sonnenalp and had the best time ever! The service there is outstanding, everyone who works there is kind, professional, and no snooty vibes like at other 5-star hotels we have visited. Concierge made all of our dinner reservations (we were a party of 6 adults) and arranged for the hotel to make a beautiful birthday cake that we ate in the lounge. The Gorsuch Ski Cafe where all of the ski equipment is kept was also fantastic, and it’s right by the gondola so one never has to carry heavy skis. Regarding the rooms, we had 3 huge suites which were so comfortable and beautiful. I highly recommend the Sonnenalp if you want to visit Vail! The service is top-notch!!!!!!!
