Highly recommended for everyone to enjoy
This is the second time i've come to this resort. The first time was before the hurricane hit (10+ years ago). St Maarten is my fav island to travel to. This resort food is amazing, theres lots of options and places to eat on the resort so you dont have to get stuck having the buffet all the time. The staff are extremely friendly. The only issue I noticed was there was a sewer smell for the couple of days because im pretty sure they have their own sewage system on site (most hotels have this) but I saw them cleaning/pumping it out the other day and since then its been totally fine. I did have a few mornings also without hot water. These would be my only two complaints, but its still a 5 star resort for me because the food is 10/10, staff 10/10, activities and entertainment at the hotel 10/10, organization of the hotel 10/10, good security for the hotel rooms, easy entry to the room you just scan your wrist band (no key cards needed), nice live music, the view from the resort and resturants on the resort is amazing, this is the only hotel that I know of where you can sit and watch the planes come in (this add extra to the entertainment and its also something extremely unique). The hotel is also 5min away from airport which is amazing because who wants to get off a plane and get in a bus for 2 hours before getting to the hotel (this happens a lot when i go to other locations). St Marteen always has a place in my heart, i love this country. Its so fun to tour the island, rent a car and check out all the spots. I highly highly recommend this place for everyone, and its amazing for families because the kids have their own water park and water slides. I will come here again and again. Another amazing part about this hotel is across the street there is shops, bars, nightlife, so you cant get bored at this place theres always something happening on and off the resort. The one thing that some might not like is the hotel beach is small, but if you do a 5-7min walk you can access Mullet Bay beach which is a big beach, clean good sand, nice water (clear), and lots of space to relax, bars on the beach, chairs, etc. This place has the whole package, good food, good price, nightlife, friendly, etc. It hits all the checkmarks. Ive been on a lot of vacations, most times you'll have good food but no entertainment, hotels dead at 9pm, bars close down earlier..or you go to another place and food is bad, but entertainment good. This place here has it all! thats why ive come to st maarten 3 times now, and to this hotel twice in a row. Highly recommend. OH , the coffee is the best coffee ive ever had. Always consistent and fresh. ALSO, the salad, wow. FRESH. green , clean (hotels super clean forgot to also mention that, they make sure guests are always cleaning hands before entering eating areas, this is professional). But yea the salad, green fresh so good. Im from Canada, when i get salad from resturants you get the odd one thats little brown, or the head of the lettuce , but this resort i dont know how they do it, its always a 10/10 freshness on the salads and on all the food in general. Food for me is a huge part of a trip, and then having something to do at night, which this all has. And lastly, prices around the country are very fair, you are not going to get gouged anywhere, the people here dont take advantage of tourists or upsell, they dont beg, its such an amazing place. If you have a family, come here, its safe and beautiful. Thank you Sonesta for the amazing time, yet again!!!! I will be back.

Never again in my life
So this was a family trip with my inlaws plus a partial honeymoon trip for me and my wife and I can say i would never ever stay here again. The staff is disrespectful and so unfriendly in every way. Almost all the employees trest you like if you are a bum off the street and not paying a lot of money to stay here. The food selection is very sub par except for maybe breakfast. The Mexican restaurant "The Cantina" got me sick with undercooked meat or something and made me vomit up that same night after dinner. There was a very limited amount of staff that is very friendly and nice but unfortunately the majority of them are rude and disrespectful. There's multiple times of the day where you can't get anytbing to eat cause everything is closed and besides being on the beach, in the poll or at the casino not much of anything to do. I would not recommend anyone to stay here not even if they paid you to stay here.

Beautiful Resort and Safe
We did a week adults only and really enjoyed our stay. We primarily ate all our meals at Azul as they offer different menus each night and a breakfast menu. The food quality was good and the staff excellent. French onion soup and escargot was some of the best we've ever had! We especially enjoyed Sadia our breakfast server, Fantacia our evening hostess, Kim and Jeremy "Speedy Gonzales" our evening servers. They all went above and beyond to meet our every need all with great personalities. No reservations required and we never had to wait. We ate at Bluefin one night and had Dominque who made a special trip downstairs to bring us dessert! Our housekeeper Dieula cleaned our room impeccably each day. Rooms are large however, the bed mattress was extremely hard and uncomfortable. The resort property itself was very clean and well maintained. We found the pools to be quite cool and not heated. No need to play the chair game in the mornings as there was adequate seating every day. The resort was very safe both on and off the property. Don't book your airport transfer ahead of time, save money and grab a taxi for $5 a person right outside the airport. Resort is literally a mile from the airport and transportation is cheap. Weather was perfect in early Dec, 85ish with a nice breeze each day.

Run down disappointment
We arrived with a swift check-in. No bellman. Our room was on the eighth floor. The king suite is extremely disappointing. We had to carry our luggage up a flight of stairs. The sheets have holes in them and are well worn. No matter how careful you shower it floods the bathroom floor and becomes very slippery. You will use all of your bath towels trying to keep the floor dry and then hauling soaking wet towels. The upstairs master bedroom does not have draperies so the light shines in all night from the bright hotel next door. There’s no sleeping in because planes start at 7 AM and don’t end until approximately 6 PM. The hotel shuts the TV off around midnight and it does not come back up until the next morning. Most of the employees are friendly. I would like to shout out Carmelita and Jamie from the Italian restaurant. It was delicious and a nice evening however, the main buffet after three days felt like the food didn’t change. Jings was a disappointment. It tasted like a buffet in the back that someone just loads up a bowl for you.. There’s no direction in the main buffet line where people get their food so everybody’s bumping into everybody, it’s very confusing in there. I would not recommend staying at this hotel.
