Believe the negative hype; avoid if possible

I booked the hotel believing it to be a location I stayed at as a child, but upon closer inspection of the map, it appeared that is where I had wanted to stay as a child. My own kids, internet savvy as they are, checked out the current reviews before I did and were not impressed. My wife learned with the kids and was also unhappy about the booking. I was more cautious, thinking ‘we’ll see when we get there’ and ‘we’re not planning to stay at the hotel, but to be out each day busy,’ etc. In terms of no breakfast and pictures showing cosmetic deficiencies, I felt like I knew what I was getting into. How wrong I was. We had a 15 day booking that was fortunately reduced to one night with no penalty. The staff were very understanding and easy to deal with. For that, I am so grateful as anything else would’ve been a nightmare. Our room on the surface looked ok, but as the other various pictures on this site indicate, they begin to form a composite whole which is horrifying! The initial vibe of the room was the smell, like a foul odour of smelly feet that I had suspected was us at the beginning, yet after showering and de-odorizing (we went to Wal-Mart for this purpose, even buying roach pads just in case) the smell lingered into the next morning. In the ‘kids room’ was where the smell was the worst. A clearly-water damaged bed table had another pungent odour coming off of it. Underneath the mattress, there was garbage; candy bar wrappers and chip bags. In the corners of the cabinets were what looked like droppings. The barrier separated the kids room from the adult bed was covered in dust. The ventilation in the bathroom had a grotesque amount of build-up within it. My wife and daughter complained about being itchy all over just lying on the bed, which we mainly suspected was related to the cleaning chemicals and nothing else. They were afraid to walk barefoot or even sock foot on the floor. A scented candle failed to dissipate the bad smell after two hours. Our first sleep was not good. At 2:40am I heard some folks walk by our bedroom window talking with one another. Suddenly, a strong smell of marijuana followed. I guess this is what pushed me over the edge. In the morning, I relented to my wife’s insistence to rebook immediately. Defeated in my optimism, I did just that. As I was rebooking, my wife shrieked as she saw a cockroach appear from behind the bed. While we were prepared for such an event, took steps to deal with it and even understand how it can be difficult to handle such infestations particularly in such a humid location, the cockroach seemed to signal in a moment the very pinnacle of our displeasure, although, for me, it was the wide variety of smells that did it for me. In totality, my feeling was just sadness; what appeared to have been someone’s dream and passion seemed to have fallen into a death spin. It’s like going to such a location in the 1980’s thinking of a camping trip, but the rooms, bathrooms and furniture are still of that era. It was hard for my family to comprehend how such a place can feasibly exist. I left more curious about its history and how it ended up in the mess it is in. As it turned out, the location I had stayed at as a kid had been down the road and was torn down. I missed the chance to eat at Checkers as well.

    Great time!

We have stayed at this property before. Some of the rooms are outdated, however some of the rooms appear to have been remodeled. We arrived around noon from New York State and one of the kids was sick. The front desk manager Deborah allowed us to check in early. We booked a family room, which was outdated, and it was not a good sleeping fit for all of us. Deborah upgraded us to a much bigger, two-room suite and that room was remodeled with tile floors. There were two queen beds, and a daybed in the bedroom, and a murphy bed and pull-out couch in the living space. It also faced the pool and there was a sand volleyball pit. We offered to pay for the upgrade because this was our mistake, and Deborah said no charge. We stayed for 10 days. There was no housekeeping unless requested, which seems to be the norm today. The pools are beautiful and open until midnight.

    SHOULD BE CONDEMNED

This place is the most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed in. DO NOT STAY HERE. It should be condemned. I had to wait in a 2 hour long line to check in. We arrived at 10:30 PM and did not get to our room until 1 AM. During my wait in line, there were multiple customers who kept coming back to complain because they had just checked in and their rooms were dirty or people were in their rooms.. the police were even dispatched there for trespassers. Not a safe location. When we got to our room the mattresses and sheets were DISGUSTING. Definitely had not been changed since the last guests. There was hair and dirt on all the floors. The fridge did not work. The whole suite smelled like smoke. I just got blankets from my car and had my kids sleep on those. If it wasn’t 1 am I would have left and found another hotel to crash at. The lock on the door was broken. There was caution tape and remnants of caution tape everywhere outside. I felt like I was in a horror movie and was scared all night long. Left by 7 am the next morning. I don’t recommend anyone stays here EVER.

Belive the negative reviews and go somewhere else

Is this place as bad as made out to be?? The answer is not a straight away yes I'll go through it as good points, bad points that can easily be fixed (if management gets it act together) and bad points that need immediate attention Good points..location location location Front of house staff Bad points that can be fixed today if they want Basic cleaning of common area's ie hallways stairs etc as it's not been done the place is filthy. Basic cleaning of rooms been here a week still not done, towels left outside to be replaced not replaced Bad points that need immediate action Certain guests that are smoking weed with impunity Basic maintenance of the rooms...lights fittings are loose and or dirty..power outlets that are loose Buy and use a carpet cleaner not just mopping carpets..the residue is left on the bottom of the very dated furniture New curtains for gods sake Paint...paint and more paint inside and out Would I stay here again?? If left as is then not a chance if the management reads this then act .. it could be a great place but its a dump..and it's bad management to blame for most off it...the cleaning staff ( I use the term jokingly) spend most of the day chatting in a group near there storage Clean the place sweep the common areas every day as certain litter has been there over 6 days Some one review only state it's great Don't believe those spend a little extra and go somewhere else only a complete shutdown and deep clean and paint new furniture etc can save this place that has sso much potential..ps 18 dollars per night resort fee is perhaps the biggest insult here
