Sensira – The Good the Bad and the Ugly

Sensira – The Good the Bad and the Ugly Stayed for a week over Christmas 2025. A real mixed bag. Let’s start with the bad and the ugly because there are plenty of posts about the good – and rightly so. Number 1 bad is towels. Unless you got them at 8am or took them back to your room overnight they were impossible to get many days. People were grabbing 6 at a time. Number 2 bad was the adults only French Restaurant. It is only open one night a week and you had to be queuing at 8:30 Friday to get a reservation for Saturday – that’s just about OK. They also didn’t mention when making the reservation that there is a dress code of long pants and no open toed shoes and it says casual in their own restaurant web page – we only found that out from another review and several people were embarrassed at the door. The worst was however that it was fully charged with appetisers $20 Mains $30++ and drinks through the roof. Can’t say it was worth it because we left before the meal, as had several other people and it left a bad taste on our last day. Thirdly it is impossible to get small change for tips. They are shooting their own staff in the foot and embarrassing guests who might otherwise be tipping much more frequently. The only ATM on site dispenses large denomination US dollars only, not Pesos. The lounge bar staff can break a few notes later in the day when they had gathered a lot of tips, but not often. Last moan before the positives – the road is awful. Massive potholes everywhere. Uber drivers will not come out if it is raining hard. Ridiculous that they can’t get a few trucks of gravel and fix the holes before making a longer-term repair. Now the good stuff. Brilliant for kids of all ages. Decent food – some people have criticized the buffet, but it is not bad – a tad repetitive but there was something new every day and multiple different stations. The Italian and Spanish restaurants were pretty good and authentic – first come first served. The steakhouse has a mechanical bull. Need to reserve and it’s a bit riotous at first sitting. Beach snack bar and another little coffee shop as well. All the staff were friendly and cheerful across the board. Rooms are very clean. Pools are good – but a bit cold over Christmas. You can get an uber anywhere for very little money. The taxis make it hard to get picked up from the airport but is a fraction of the cost of booked transport to get dropped off there on your return. Well worth the visit is Puerto Moreles – a lovely beach town just south and $30 CA ride. And the crocodile zoo is very close by and very interactive with knowledgeable guides, though watch what they charge you. It is $40 extra from a small bag of food to feed some of the animals and we declined – but they still charged us. Finally, SHHHHH – the knights adult bar is brilliant. Hidden away from everywhere with pool tables. Almost empty when we went. Proper bartender can mix you anything and he was able to break change for us very cheerfully. Conclusion great resort for kids – just be aware of some idiosyncrasies.

Nice on paper, average in reality

This hotel looks beautiful in the advertisement and perfect for families with children. In reality, the pools are freezing and the kids will refuse to use them, the beach/ocean is full of seaweed to the point that it is impossible to go into the water, the road to the hotel has massive potholes and is difficult to navigate, pool towels are rarely available. The only redeeming features are the nice rooms and decent food.

    Disappointment at its finest

The negative reviews speak for themselves. This was supposed to be a trip of a lifetime - my boyfriend proposed to me here. We stayed here for 4 nights, and on the very first night there was a piping issue in the sink where every time the water was turned on it sounded like a bulldozer. We complained everyday consecutively and they supposedly sent someone up to the room to fix it. They never came to fix it when we were in the room. The issue was consistent and to the noise level where the next door guests came knocking on our door to complain to us. How embarrassing. On the last night, we finally had our last straw and asked to speak to the manager. Ivanka and Erbert came upstairs to physically inspect the room themselves and the women did not seem to care at all as she seemed to laughed it off and said there was nothing that they could do at this point. Your hospitality and professionalism is a joke! Only good thing about this resort was our bartender, Edwin at the Pub! He is such a genuinely sweet guy.

    Sensira Resort Riviera Maya

My wife and I spent a week at Sensira Resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. The resort was clean. The food was good. The only complaint about the food was the food at the buffet was sometimes cold. The buffet opened for breakfast at 7 and we got there around that time. The bacon, waffles, etc was cold. I believe it was due to them making it early to get it ready for breakfast but it wasn't in the warmer for very long so it was still cold. Not a big deal. I liked that they had a separate pool for adults only. The suite we booked said adults only so I was guessing the room area was adults only, but we were probably just on the end of the adults only rooms and the next room had a child that screamed multiple times a day, but only for several minutes. Not the resort's fault, I knew it wasn't an adult's only resort and it is full of child-friendly things to do. I did yoga pretty much every day. Zania in the gym was the instructor and she is very nice. She is friendly and welcoming in her classes. She took the time to visit with the students and get to know a little about us. She is a wonderful addition to their staff. I also wanted to mention our pool waitress Janitzia. She was always smiling and was very friendly. She knew what drinks we wanted and would come by often to see if we needed anything. Our room had a nice rain shower head. The water pressure was good and we always had hot water right away. I've been to some resorts that didn't have hot water and/or the water pressure was bad. Our suite had a hot tub in it and it filled up really quickly. The last resort we went to had a hot tub on our patio and took about an hour to fill, but it was a bit bigger size too. I love that our bracelets had the room key built in. It's so nice to not worry about carrying a separate card for that. I also loved that you don't need a card for the towels, you can just grab a fresh towel by the pool when you need one. I would recommend this resort.
