Excellent vacation
We had an exceptionally wonderful time at Secrets Puerto Los Cabos. It's a lovely resort whose staff go the extra mile to make sure everyone has a good time there. Our hotel room was excellent. We were located as requested in a quieter part of the resort. The specialty restaurants were very good. The spa was excellent. The grounds were superbly maintained. The pool area was lovely. Very attentive service throughout the resort. Breakfast at Market Cafe was very good, too. Coco Cafe was wonderful spot for specialty coffees and snacks. Very walkable resort for the ambulatory. Close to downtown (old) San Jose. Weather was perfect, reaching the upper 20s or 30 every day, sunny with a light breeze.

Perfect in every way
At secrets, you are taken care of from the minute. You drive up till the minute you leave as soon as you walk in that lobby and our handed a glass of champagne you feel like you’re on vacation. And that’s the way it should feel. I am all about service and at this resort they met every expectation I could ever have at an all-inclusive resort. They have turned down service, where do you get that anymore? The food, the drink drinks the pool are all spectacular. Now toss in a golf course and a beautiful ocean view. I am very glad to know the secret of secrets we will be back!

Preferred Means Nothing
This resort was disappointing for what it cost, especially to pay extra for “preferred status”, which didn’t really amount to anything when there was no verification of who used the additional amenities it offered. Sure they have their own lounge with top shelf booze and snacks all day, but it seemed like anyone on resort could just walk in there and use it. At no point did any worker in these areas ask for our room numbers or any verification that we were even allowed in there, so I’d recommend skipping that added cost when booking. If you want a swim out room they have them in the “non preferred” building too. Being “preferred” also didn’t afford you any additional separate activities, like special restaurants, reservations, or access to shows at discounted or included rates. Like, every show cost money for the tables and dinners they served in that area. They basically shut the buffet down and charge people $200 for tables outside to watch the show. Or you can go to dinner at other restaurants and watch the show for free from the balcony. This resort was huge on upselling and trying to get you to spend more money on things that should be included if it’s an “all inclusive” resort. Like not having a dinner buffet so you can charge people $200 for dinner forcing people to wait for long periods of time at other restaurants because reservations aren’t accepted except with the hibachi. So you either pay $200 for dinner on the nights there’s a show or go wait in line at the 3 other restaurants or you do that on the nights there’s no show cuz they don’t have a dinner buffet. They also will offer you discounts on spa and other amenities if you sit through a “sales pitch” which is basically them trying to sell you a time share. DON’T FALL FOR IT! Stay strong, decline and get your free or discounted promises. They don’t advertise or announce this until you get to resort, but it is a non smoking resort. Not just non smoking rooms or designated areas, it non smoking except down on the beach or outside the front gate. As a non smoker I appreciate it, but having a partner that is a smoker so, it seemed a little dishonest to wait to disclose that and make you sign a waiver at check in, so basically at that point you’re stuck there and have no choice but to agree because what else are you gonna do after paying $12k to them for a reservation? Cancel and hope you find another resort and fight to get your money back? There just seemed to be a lot of shady ethics, lack of communication and desire to get even more money out of everyone. It’s also a very quiet resort, which is great for anyone that doesn’t like music at the pool all day, likes to hear everyone’s conversations and doesn’t mind being threatened with a fine if they play their own music at the pool for it may disrupt others. They only seemed to play music during water activities like spinning or aerobics. The rooms are dated. The tile and decorations all have a layer of dust that you can tell just can’t be removed. The showers and sinks didn’t drain well, and our shower smelt like stinky feet, luckily I had flip flops to wear in the shower considering it didn’t drain well and filled up. There is a marina and public beach about 2.5 miles from the resort which is a bit a walk for most people. They do have the daily bike ride at 10am there, but you gotta leave when the activity is over, so it doesn’t help if you want to stay. You can’t swim at this resort (or many resorts in Cabo) This resort is far off the beaten path for anyone that likes to walk off resort and see the sites. Luckily the Ubers are safe and relatively inexpensive to get to the nearest shopping area, but they are about $50+ to get to Cabo San Lucas. I will give all the credit to gardeners and groundskeepers at this resort! They take very good care of all the landscaping and gardens on the property. That was honestly my favorite part of the resort. There are some pretty big roaches on the property but you can tell these guys try very hard to keep them out of site, but once in a while you catch one on your patio. I never caught one inside but sadly I am sure they were in there and I was always on edge and obsessionally checking luggage and bags as we packed. The spa services we received were amazing! If you love deep tissue massages, get Ida! She was the strongest massage therapist I have ever had.
