Amazing trip to Mexico
The service is excellent at Secrets Huatulco. A special shout out to the Castaway staff. Yvonne, Stefany and Eddi were awesome. They made us feel welcomed and special. Yogtan was amazing as a poolside server and Daniel at Bordeaux was great. Thank you Roberto for your all your help.

Exceptional service. Quality and variety of food experience was outstanding and better than I expected for an all inclusive resort. The beach location is beautiful experience felt safe.

The hotel sits overlooking a beautiful beach. It’s very impressive as you walk out to the elevators to get to your room. But that’s where it starts to go down hill. The hotel is old and the resort has not kept up with maintenance. There are 3 elevators that serve the resort. At any given point only 2 were operational and only one had a working fan. We paid for premium club and were very disappointed. The club bar was nothing more than a nook behind the lobby with a few bottles of booze and a few snacks put on the back shelf. We had a swim out room near the main pool in building 1. The pool could have been cleaned more often but they did manage to come by regularly after I asked them. Food at all the restaurants was pedestrian. The decor at the Italian place was very old, stained and torn table linens but the servers were attentive. If you can get a good deal I’d recommend it. But if you’re looking. For a 4-5 star experience this is not the place for you.

The real Secret is that this place is a low class timeshare property disguised as a resort. Our nightmare started at check-in when the agent thought we were only staying for a night. Once our five night stay was confirmed, he proceeded to tell us about the dress code for dinner. For indoor dining they require long pants and shoes for men which was completely opposite of the high quality resort wear in our luggage. Woman had a different dress code. Keep in mind temperatures in this part of Mexico remain at or above 35 degrees celsius. Many of the guest did not pack long pants. While our room had a nice view of the ocean, the decor was old and it smelled of mildew. Dining venues lacked ambiance and food was typically below par. Even the ice cream is cheap. Drinks at most venues were often served in plastic which doesn’t work well with wine and other adult beverages. Service was slow but acceptable. Most staff were not capable of basic English, the primary language of most of the guest. Gym facilities were inadequate for the capacity of the property. The property might be appropriate for someone wanting only the basics but we expected at least an average quality resort and were totally disappointed. We definitely will not return to this property and we are not keeping it a Secret.
