Fantastic stay and we will be back
This might be too long for most people so I am using categories so you can just jump to the one that most interests you. I went from Dec 17, 2025 to Dec 26, 2025 with my husband. Location: First let me tell you a little bit of our history on the Mexican beaches. We first drove to Mexico from Bragg Creek Alberta in 1992. Maybe too young at that time to think if it was safe or unsafe, it does not matter now because all went very well. In all the beaches including the Baja, it is Huatulco we enjoyed the most. This beach at the Secrets Huatulco is beautiful, calm waves, snorkeling at the left far end by the rocks (please, if you can go snorkeling at high tide it is easier), very quiet, only a few venders and they are not at all forceful, You can take a very short walk pretty much where you would start snorkeling from through the trees to another beach, worth a look. Atmosphere: This hotel has a quieter vibe but still has lots of bands to listen to at night and shows you can see, I did not do a lot of the shows, but I think you can keep busy at night if you choose to. It’s very relaxing like most hotels in Mexico but probably more so do to the fact that it is adult only. Rooms: The rooms are your typical rooms in resorts, good size unless you what to stay in your room all day, great cleaning staff, fridge got stocked every day, everything in the room worked fine. Yes, they probably need upgrading but this did not bother us any. Every room has an ocean view. Value: I do not think we got a great price, but we booked 6 days before going and did not shop around much so this is mostly our fault, but we loved the food, service, amenities, location so we felt it was good value. Cleanliness: Our room was cleaned very well every day; pool could have used and little scrubbing where the water’s edge meets the air at water level but really nothing to be concerned about. Yes, tiles are coming off in places but again this hotel needs a little updating, I can’t wait to see what they will do in the next little while with upgrades. Noise Level: I think we were in the closest room to the Sky Bar, this is where they have some bands with dancing, but it did not bother us at all, noise stopped around midnight. We like to sleep with the patio doors open because the sound of the waves was wonderful. If we wanted it quieter, we would close the doors. Service: OK, this is where this hotel shines! We enjoyed the Mexican Tamarindo”, the French “Bordeaux”, the Asian “Spice”, seafood “Oceana” you can sit outside which was great. All service was great at these restaurants but the one we kept going back to was Castaways!!!, it is open aired with the best views of the beach and great service, we went every day for breakfast (preferred Club only for breakfast) and lunch, I really got to know the staff at Castaways and by the time I left I felt a little like family. The manager of Castaways is Ivonne (she would come around asking everyone if all is fine) she is so friendly, Stefany is the hostess and wonderful to get to know as well, Hiedi is one of the severs and she introduced me to the most wonderful drinks, Gabriela (Gabi) now this is a great person and I wanted to take her home with me. Ruben, Abimael, Eddi, Adilene, Monica and Sergio were great servers as well, we also got to know young Rodrigo (also a server) he was wonderful to practice my Spanish with. On the last day I got to meet the Cheff: Gabriel, he spiced up my pasta with calamari, and it was fantastic, thanks Gabriel! Amenities: I cannot think of anything the hotel was missing, there were plenty of water sports that you can just take out into the ocean, I did not go kayaking because I just had a shoulder replacement 10 weeks ago but I was able to do the water aerobics almost every day, the instructors really make it fun. We will be back, Linda and Lloyd from Bragg Creek, Alberta

Set your expectations
We have been to many AI resorts over the last two decades and have visited many AM resorts before and after the Hyatt acquisition. The reviews on here helped tremendously so I won't reinvent the wheel and will reinforce what many have already said. The resort is neither the best or the worst and I think people who review as such do your fellow travelers a disservice when you use hyperbole in your review. Yes, the resort is tired and needs a bit of maintenance, but you have to keep in mind the price relative to the other Secrets in the AI collection. This was probably half the price of some of the newer Secrets for the same type of room and time of the year. We did preferred, and at the time of booking, it was barely more than the regular room rate but if you are comparing and the cost is any more than $40-$50 USD per night, then consider skipping. For example, we found the views at Castaways in the morning to be fantastic but the breakfast food wasn't any better than the two other choices. The top floor room was great and the views were fantastic. Bar service was usually good but varied across the resort. Drinks are going to be the cheapest alcohol combined with some type of premade sugary mix unless you specify what you want. I did find the bar service at the preferred club to be better than most of the others. Overall the bartenders are really nice with Sugar Reef (pool bar) not so great. but they are just trying to keep their heads above water with the demand at the pool and beach. The resort can sometimes get noisy at night as we listened to someone butcher Celine Dion at Karaoke like a cat got caught in blender. Props for bravery but relatively disturbing at 11 pm. Then the noisy 30 something drunks which lose volume control after day drinking themselves into oblivion added some midnight to 2 am noise. Bring a bluetooth speaker and prepare to throw on some white noise. The food was overall good, but as a Youtube reviewer reminded us, this is not a foodie destination. I found the buffet to be okay, the French restaurant good, Italian passable and the Asian restaurant (sit down, not Hibachi) was meh, with meh rushed service. Our best restaurant service was actually French and the buffet. Castaways service was passable as well. We mostly just chilled and went off the resort a little bit. The activities look to be plentiful so you can stay occupied at the resort if you want. Would I come to this Secrets again. Maybe. The area is incredible so I see why Mexican nationals and Canadians flock to the area. Hyatt and the property owner will need to throw some cash into the place eventually but for now, they survive on overall value, friendly service and an amazing location.

Spectacular beaches
Resort is well laid out but kind of stark, not very pleasant. Elevators are slow and unreliable. Great watersports. Snorkeling on the east side is worthwhile. I went every day. Nice breeze sitting under a palapa in the shade. Service was fine. Good choice of restaurants but menus were limited. Buffet was closed several evenings. Nice selection of fruit at the buffet. Was never there in the evening. Overall food was okay but not amazing. I would return because the beach/watersports were great despite food not being great. I wou

Beautiful beach, enjoyable stay.
The hotel has great views and a beautiful and calm beach. Staff was always very friendly and attentive, special kudos to the whole animation team, who make the ambience very funny and enjoyable. Food is pretty good in general, although it lacks a bit compared to other Secrets hotels.
