Secrets Akumal is, without a doubt, one of the most breathtaking places we’ve ever been in Mexico. From the moment you step through the doors, you’re greeted by a staff that is genuinely attentive, caring, and warmly welcoming. The resort itself feels like a rejuvenating escape, it feels so tranquil from the very first moment you arrive. The property is impeccably clean, and the layout ensures a sense of space and privacy—you never feel crowded. It’s clear that every guest feels embraced by the welcoming atmosphere, creating a shared sense of joy and relaxation. The food is delicious at every single restaurant, with quality that consistently impressed us. The dedication and hard work of the staff were evident in every detail, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their efforts. We left wishing we could have stayed forever. Don't hesitate to book
Don't hesitate to book. A really good vibe. 5 star but not pretentious with it. Beautiful landscaped gardens with lots of wildlife. I was worried about mosquito's which normally make a be line for me, but was not bitten once. All staff really genuinely friendly and helpful. There was something here for everyone. The beach and pool 3 are really relaxing but if you want lively pool 1 is great and pool 2 is somewhere in between. We swam with the turtles which was an excellent experience. Entertainment excellent as were the facilities. Really good spa. We came away feeling a lot more relaxed than when we got there. Only one word to describe Secrets Akumal and that's Excellent

Our Return to Secrets Akumal
This was our second time at Secrets Akumal with the first time being over 5 years ago. It was so nice to come back and see that the beautiful resort and quality of service hadn't changed, if anything, it only got better! We had a non-preferred, swim out room and although it was fun, we didn't enjoy it too much as it was in the shade most of the time and was a little chilly. (FYI we were in building 9). We ate at Oceana, Seaside (multiple times for lunch and once for dinner), Himitsu twice, and Bordeaux -- all were great and we really enjoyed each meal. I don't think we had a meal that was bad but we definitely had ones we preferred over others. One thing I was very sad to see was that the snorkeling had changed since we had last been. Before, it was free and there was a hut right off the beach where someone would explain the expectations and rules. Now you either have to pay $10 deposit (you get the money back) to rent the items or you can pay to do a tour. I was sad because I don't feel like people are being taught how to respect the wildlife right off the beach when they snorkel on their own and we noticed that a lot of the strict signage was taken down. We didn't pay to do a tour and we did see one stingray and one sea turtle right off the Secrets beach which was great! However, we noticed some people getting extremely close to and almost touching the sea turtle and we think that is why Secrets needs to bring back at least explaining the expectations to those who snorkel. Our only other issue was housekeeping was hit or miss. Some days our rooms were cleaned by 10am, others they hadn't been touched by 5pm and we had to request for a room cleaning through the app. They also were not consistent with the turndown service. This did not ruin our stay by any means but it's little things we enjoy while we are here at the resort. Overall, it was an excellent vacation and we will definitely return! The resort is beautiful, the staff is wonderful, and the food/drinks are delicious. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we hope to be back soon!

Jan 2025 couple review
Staff is hands down incredible. Didnt have a single bad interaction with anyone. Special shout out to our concierge Sofia. She texted us every morning with a morning guide to activities throughout the day. She provided cenote recommendations in the area, booked our hydrotherapy sessions for us and even had a bath prepared upon request. The grounds here are absolutely stunning. Love how much greenery is around and the beach is beautiful. Food ranged from OK to great. A lot depends on personal preference so I wont go into much detail but El Patio was our favorite highly recommend lamb birria tacos.

Can’t wait to go back !
Just left and already miss this place! The lush foliage that fills the resort , the many pools to choose on and being doted on by ALL the staff made this resort stand out Big Time! Karina was our concierge and we utilized her services fully from blowing up our pool floaties to ordering room service her friendly smile was great to see each morning ! Gina and Maximillos & Carla with the entertainment team were our highlights during the day with pool volleyball and drink making competitions and Bingo! They brought the energy which was delightful for us since it is really an older crowd at this resort. Ruben was our pool waiter and he always found us to say Hi, adjust our shade, make sure we were good! Ivan at the barefoot bar made the BEST and most consistent drinks.. trust me on this one haha! If I had any complaints at all is that our swim up ( which we were VERY excited to use) was completely shaded all day so we never used the swim up once. I appreciate the privacy of the trees but it was not worth the upgrade at all. Additionally every restaurant was sooo good with the exception of EL Patio the Mexican, it was our least favorite but definitely not our Favorite. The best is the Himitsu grill is the best, you need a reservation for the Tepanyaki Grill but you can just walk in for the sushi menu! Sooo delicious we went back twice! Snorkel right off our beach you don’t need to book anything you’ll see turtles, fish and stingrays ! You can rent a mask at the resort for like 4 dollars. I read reviews that they are pushy with trying to sell you timeshare or preferred upgrades , they only asked us once and we politely declined and did not hear about it again. Overall absolutely loved this place!
