Fantastic Hotel
Check in - This was really good. We arrived at the hotel a couple of hours before check in and our room was ready. Was a smooth Check in process. Had to pay a deposit which we get back at the end but thats standard across hotels. Room - We had a King deluxe on the 37th floor. The room was very spacious, a huge walk in shower and plenty of hanger space. The bed was super comfy. Maid Service - our maid in room 3704 was fantastic. She came daily unless we asked her not too. Everything was pristine each time. Breakfast - Fantastic. Had read lots of negative reviews so was sceptical but our experience was amazing. They had a system which worked. We visited at various times through the week and never waited in line for more than 5 minutes before going up and getting a table. The range of food was really good. Toast, bagels, fruit, cereals, yoghurt and more. All in all a really good experience. Snack Bar - I wouldn't bother. We had food here once, quite pricey and very bland, I wasnt impressed at all. Check out - another easy process. Handed keys back and deposit was back by the time I arrived at JFK!

Perfect place to stay in NYC
This is the perfect place to stay if you want to be in the middle of all the action! It is conveniently located steps from Times Square and walking distance to many attractions including Broadway theaters, Bryant Park and Radio City Music Hall. The room was perfect for two people with a king size bed, desk and mini fridge. The room was also very clean when we arrived and was made up each day. They hotel has a breakfast buffet, although it is quite expensive at $24 per person. There is also a grab and go cafe in the lobby which is great for a quick bite. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel if you are visiting NYC!

Wonderful Hotel
Just stayed at the Riu for the first time on our annual Christmas trip. It’s a beautiful hotel modern and clean. The room was fantastic two very comfy queen beds and floor to ceiling windows. We were on the 18th floor at the front so we had a really nice view. Stayed in many New York hotels over the years, but the Riu is by far my favorite. The location can’t be beat.

A very good hotel overall with just a couple of issues.
We stayed at the Riu Plaza Manhattan for 5 nights in December having stayed at it's sister hotel Riu Plaza times square a few years ago. It's worth noting that these are completely separate hotels in separate locations as I have seen some reviews saying they are part of the same hotel. The Plaza Manhattan is the closer of the two hotels to Times Square located just steps away and it is the newer of the two hotels aswell. Upon our arrival at the hotel, we'd done the online check-in beforehand so just had to pay for the room when we got there and also the $250 deposit for incidentals which was subsequently refunded when we checked out. We also had breakfast included. We were given keys for our room which was on the 40th floor. The reception area was very modern and there was also a cafe/bar in the lobby area aswell as plenty of tables and chairs. First impressions were good. The hotel also had Christmas decorations in the lobby which were tasteful and festive. Our room was very decent with a large king bed, a desk, bedside drawers, a storage area which had plenty of hanging space. There was also a safe, refrigerator and an ironing board and iron which was nicely hidden behind a mirror near the door. There were also 2 bottles of complimentary water when we arrived although they were only for that day. The bathroom had a good sized shower and all the usual amenities you'd expect including a hair dryer. The room windows were also large with views of the skyscrapers and some of times square. What wasn't in the room and what I was surprised at was any tea or coffee making facilities. I did query this by messaging reception via the app and was told that these couldn't be facilitated. Now I know there was a grab and go coffee shop in the lobby but I can't recall ever staying in any 4 or 5 star hotel which doesn't provide in room tea/coffee making facilities so that was a negative point. I can only think this was a financial decision as the only option was to purchase something from the cafe at over $5 each time. Sometimes it's nice to get back to your room and pop the kettle or coffee maker on but that isn't possible here. Onto breakfast, this is served between 7-10am and this is on the 5th floor but to get to it you have to take the lift to the lobby where you check in with someone by giving your room number and name and then more often than not queue to go back into the lift to go up to floor 5 where you are then put into another queue before being given a table. It sounds like a hassle but I think if it was a free for all, the chances are breakfast would be a bit chaotic as it was always generally busy in the breakfast area so this way as strange as it might sound, it did feel more organised. Food choices were plentiful with everything from fruits, through to sausages and bacon etc. No issues with the variety of food. Coffee appeared to be decaf or normal coffee, no options for lattes or Cappuccino sadly. After breakfast, it's back in the lifts again and the only thing I will point out about these and it has been mentioned in other reviews is the lifts can be quite slow at times. It may have just been the time of the year with the hotel being very busy but sometimes you can find yourself standing waiting for the lift to arrive for 5 or 10 minutes as it goes from floor to floor transporting other guests. I'm not sure how they'll ever solve that issue but it is something to be aware of. The hotel also has a gym which I did utilise a few times. That was actually pretty decent and was never over crowded. It has both cardio machines, weight machines and free weights as well as a punch bag. It is also open 24 hours. The room was serviced everyday as long as you put the hanger on the door to request that and everything in the hotel was really clean and staff seemed very pleasant aswell. Overall we had an enjoyable stay, location is central with subways close by for easy access. The hotel can organise taxis if required but we managed to get to the hotel from JFK using the air train and the train from Jamaica to oenn station which cost about $16 altogether as opposed to over $100 a taxi would cost each way and we did the same on the way back to JFK so I'd definitely recommend exploring that option as it will save money.
