A great place to. Isit
This is the third time I have visited this resort, the rooms are very clean and the staff go over and above to make you feel welcome. The beds were a bit hard which I didn’t enjoy, but a softer mattress is just my personal preference. The gym needs some work as the equipment is getting old and both treadmills were out of service during my visit. The hotel is ideally located about a 15 min walk into Playa Del Carmen or a 3 minute cab ride. This is a relatively small resort 500 rooms so easy to get around. The beach is absolutely gorgeous and very well maintained. Lots of lawn chairs so you never have to worry about. The pool however gets busy fast and a lot of people get up early to claim their lounge chairs. All of the restaurants are first come, first serve but never a wait and the waiters do their best to accommodate large groups. The entertainment is just ok but in all fairness I think all the resorts have the same level of entertainment. I had one bad experience in the Mexican restaurant and my stomach was upset from the food. All the other restaurants were excellent. The buffet had a lot of variety and was always replenished. One suggestion for the hote would be to make the beach more accessible for guests with disabilities. My daughter has mobility issues and the only way to the beach is down stairs. When they get down the stairs there is no surface to walk on to access the beach and the sand can be challenging. This is a great place for families and couples. We will be back next year!

Great Beach Location
We have stayed at other Riu properties, so we thought we would visit they Riu Playacar this year. Their beachfront location in Playacar is central and adjacent to several other high caliber hotels within a gated residential community. The beach itself is beautiful, clean, and has excellent access for swimming. You can walk along the beach for a fairly long distance. The property is not overly large, so you can comfortably walk from lobby to beach in just a few minutes, yet still has 3 pools and an extensive beach area with lounges. The resort has 5 different-themed restaurants, all of which were good. The gym was relatively small and had old but functional equipment. Our only disappointment was that we somehow ended up in a room without a balcony, but most of the rooms have exterior balconies, so be careful in your selection of the room type when booking. Staff was friendly, courteous and diligent.

Wow! A piece of paradise
What an amazing place to stay! Riu Playacar is absolutely incredible from the grounds, staff, rooms, location, food and entertainment. Upon arrival we were welcomed warmly by Jonathon and given a welcome drink. Check in was efficient and smooth and he gave us all the information we needed. We were given a pool view room in block 8 which was perfect. We had an adjoining room so we could hear the neighbours but that didn’t bother us. The room was big and spacious with a huge bathroom. Body wash, shampoo and conditioner were provided. The optics in the room as part of the mini fridge were fantastic and we utilised. The food in the restaurants was lovely and there was plenty of choice. We sat in the same spot everyday and the waiter Nestor was a real gentleman, as soon as we sat down he brought us coffee and prosessco and would always take the time to ask how our previous day had been. We spent so much time in the pool bar and the atmosphere is brilliant. We loved talking to the staff, Jorje, Leonardo and Edgar, they worked so hard and they are great fun. Saturdays bar games were brilliant. The entertainment team as amazing too. They keep all the guests entertained. There is so much going on and the aqua fun was a highlight that my partner and I enjoyed and would be in fits of laughter. Mr Dido was brilliant with the guests and made sure he got everyone engaged and entertained. The whole of the entertainment team were amazing. The beck is beautiful and is a great place to watch the sun rise which was beautiful to watch. The RIU parties were so much fun we had the best time, the face painting and the atmosphere was just incredible. The teams that put it all on are amazing ! when we stumbled back to Playacar the burgers and hotdogs that you could microwave next to the bar were much needed !!! Including the coffee!! We booked a trip to Tulum, which included a cenote swim and swimming with sea turtles through the TUI rep and wow what a day it was brilliant, you do have to buy photos from the sellers which we did for $70 to us it was worth it for the memory. This is an amazing hotel and we had the most amazing time. We will absolutely be returning.

A small piece of paradise
First a big thanks to everyone at the Riu Playacar for making our holiday a wonderful experience. The room and grounds were spotless, all staff members worked so hard to keep this love hotel looking fantastic. We tried all the themed restaurants and really enjoyed them all, the palms buffet restaurant was also very good, always found something good to eat. The beach area was my kind of paradise, white powdery sand and a beautiful clear warm sea, fantastic! The bar staff always greeted us with big smiles when serving our drinks. This is our third time in Mexico and again we had a blast! The Playacar is a little quieter than the Riu tequila and smaller so suited us better, just what the doctor ordered! I would like to say that we will return one day but with so many wonderful places to see, we will have to wait and see. Have already looked at other Riu hotels around the world and we will definitely be using this brand again and again. Jump in you won’t be disappointed.
