This was our first time at an all inclusive. We have done cruises, but never an AI, so take that in consideration. The places is virtually spotless. There always appeared to be two people cleaning, dusting etc the lobby. Almost All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. With a few exceptions, The food was better than I was expecting. The breakfast Buffett was absolutely massive. If you can’t find something you like, I don’t believe you. The Asian restaurant was our favorite. We just asked that they bring whatever they wanted to give us and had to finally tell them to stop (no mas!). There was a big variety of alcohol and beer and getting a drink was never a problem. It’s a short stroll to the beach and 4 pools. It was a well run resort. We would book again. With that said here are some lows (none would stop me from going ): the baked goods were “meh”. Poolside grill for lunch was just ok (except for the chicken items we had which were excellent). If you’re looking for on location exciting nightlife you’ll be disappointed. There’s a nightly show, but no real nightclub. Finally, we booked elite club, but not sure id do it again. I got some upscale call liquors and the EC has its own pool. The nice part of the exclusive pool was we never had an issue finding lounge chairs and drinks seemed to come faster that at the other pools.

Review of Riu Palace Kukulkan Rating: 2/5 Overview: My stay at the Riu Palace Kukulkan was marred by a series of service failures and operational oversights that significantly detracted from what should have been a luxurious getaway. Despite the hotel's relatively new infrastructure and some commendable staff efforts, the overall experience was far below the expectations set by the "Palace" designation. Service & Management Failures: Booking Mix-up: On our first day, we were forced to switch rooms due to a booking error. Instead of the king-size bed we had reserved for our romantic getaway, we were initially given a room with two separate beds. This was not just an inconvenience but a clear sign of mismanagement. Technical Issues: Post room change, connecting to services like Netflix took an unacceptable three days to resolve, showcasing a lack of promptness in technical support. Special Occasions Ignored: My birthday was overlooked by the hotel staff. Despite my wife's request for the promised "Birthday Greeting" with a cake and sparkling wine, nothing was prepared, highlighting a lack of attention to detail and customer care. Disruptive Renovations: Our tranquility was shattered by construction noise starting at 8:30 AM for the last three days of our stay. This was not only disruptive but also poorly communicated beforehand. Minibar Service Neglected: The last two days were spent without basic amenities like water and coffee due to the minibar service inexplicably bypassing our room. When confronted, the staff's response was both dismissive and dishonest, claiming manual ordering was necessary—a clear falsehood. Indifferent Staff: Interaction with the reception was unproductive; they seemed indifferent to our grievances, offering no real solutions or compensations, such as a free shuttle to the airport, which was met with robotic denial. Culinary Disappointment: The food was generally below par, lacking variety and often either overcooked or undercooked. The drinks were inconsistently prepared, suggesting a lack of training among the bar staff. The entertainment was lackluster, seemingly designed to push guests towards other Riu hotels for Spring Break parties, which felt more like a sales tactic than genuine entertainment. Positive Aspects: However, it's not all negative. The hotel's infrastructure, being relatively new (built in 2022), offers clean, modern rooms with no issues like pests. The beach service was commendable, with efficient and friendly staff managing the sun beds and umbrellas. The cleaning staff deserves recognition for maintaining high standards in room cleanliness. Conclusion: The price paid for what was supposed to be a "Palace" experience did not align with the service received. The management and front desk's attitude and the operational failures have ensured we will not return to Riu Palace Kukulkan. This hotel needs significant improvements in service, management responsiveness, and overall guest experience to justify its premium branding.

Great Stay
We extended our stay for 4 nights because we didn’t want to leave. The pool service, specifically Cocom at the “volleyball pool” was the absolute best we’ve ever had. He works very hard to keep your cup full and checks on you every time he walks by. Andrea at the buffet was also excellent. Hotel very clean and prime location. Grocery store 2 blocks away if you need anything. Malls within walking distance. The only complaint is that there’s no nightly shows on the days where there’s a RIU Party. Not everyone wants to go to a different resort for a party, actually a ton of people didn’t go, the pools/lobby bar were packed but there’s absolutely nothing going on at the hotel those days/nights. Otherwise we love this RIU and will return. This was our 3rd time at this resort.

Overall, we really loved our stay here! The view from our room was incredible, the beach was beautiful and well kept, the grounds were nice and always clean, we could always easily get chairs and umbrellas at the beach and pool, the evening entertainment shows were fun, the people and service were wonderful, checkin and checkout went smoothly, and the drinks were good. We really liked the Asian and Krystal restaurants best. Also, shoutout to Victor in the reception area! The only two negatives were that the food was pretty hit or miss. There were a few things we really liked, but for the most part, the food lacked flavor and proper preparation. The other was the party at the sister resort that we were shuttled to. While this was an optional activity, we didn’t realize that we would not be able to return for over two hours and were left stuck at the other resort until the shuttle could pick us up. If we had known that we would not have gone, but this wasn’t clearly communicated to us before we left. Would just recommend better communication about what to expect and options to return.
