    Lovely holiday

We have just spent 11 nights at the Riu Palace Jamaica, Montego Bay. We thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. We had a nice room overlooking the courtyard. The food in the buffet is excellent. There is so much choice at every meal time. The staff in the buffet restaurant are very attentive and pleasant especially Vanessa, Doneisha, Audley, Alicas. The staff in the capuchino bar were also great so pleasant and helpful. The entertainment staff are great, very good fun. The hotel has a great gym. The hotel has a lovely charm about it and we would definitely return. The only disappointment was the large groups of very noisy, scantily clad young Americans who didn't seem to know how to behave. We also thought the music at times was not befitting for the hotel. There was alot of gangster/rap, 18-30 holiday type music. Especially between 4pm and 5pm and in the evening which we thought spoilt the ambience of the hotel. The music would have been better suited to the livelier sister hotels. Although, we do appreciate that the hotel needs to cater for all tastes.

DISSAPOINTING AFTER CARE DURING HURRICAINE MELISSA HIT ON TUESDAY 28 OCTOBER 2025

We booked with RIU, direct i.e. not via a Holiday company such as TUI, we flew independently on Thursday 16th October 2025 and we were due to go home on Thursday 30th October 2025. We are two adults in our early 60’s, initially the Hotel, Food and service were excellent as is the Hotel and its location. TO SUM UP THE ISSUES • No Bar Service for 7 days (although other hotel bars were open) • Loss of All Inclusive that we had to pay for but did not get for 5 days. • Grounds closed off for 6 days, even though the area had been cleared. • Poor queuing system for the Restaurant which meant we had to walk back through the queue with our food, up some stairs. • Optics were not topped up in the room prior to lock down. • Fridge was not topped up with mixers prior to lock down. • The bins were overflowing, including the toilet tissue bin which I had to empty myself. • No Housekeeping service for the rooms (although they were sweeping the reception and other areas) – we had to find a broom and sweep it ourselves. • No clean linen or towels were available; We had to wash them ourselves. • Water Shut off – we were not told the times of when the water would be switched on (we found out from other guests at Montego Bay; a sign went up 3 days later in our hotel. We woke by 7 am on Sunday 2nd November in order to have a shower and flush the toilet, but the water was switched off. • We could not use the bar at RIU Montego Bay (although this was a perk at staying at Palace, but we were not told this in advance, and this caused us great embarrassment and annoyance. • The WIFI went down, we were not notified of this or that we could use the WIFI at Montego Bay (other guests advised us of this); • There was no Air Con, but again, we were not told of this (we thought it was just us), until we spoke to others. • The lift on the 3rd floor was out of action – we had to use the stairs, but then we discovered that there was another lift we could use, but again, we were not told of this. • We discovered decaying food which had been left on a tray in our Hotel Corridor, the stench was horrific. This was not spotted/removed until I reported it. • We both had sickness and diarrhea due to the poor standards of hygiene (no hand sanitizer was provided when entering the restaurant after queuing for food). Plus, we could not flush the toilet. • Lack of information/communication or messages on the App including updates and management did not even speak with us when they saw us. RIU did contact us to say that they would refund us the money for the extra nights we had to stay, to date this payment has not been forthcoming. When I contacted them, they have advised that the local bank at Jamaica were also affected by the hurricane, so there is a delay. This is not acceptable as RIU Palace Montego Bay are up and running and accepting guests, therefore, they are able to receive money! We paid for 14 nights, 24-hour, 5 star All Inclusive but we only received 5 days of this throughout the entire duration of our holiday. Communication from Management was extremely poor, almost non-existent. Whilst the Hurricane was out of Management’s control. What was in their control was to communicate with their guests, ensure our wellbeing, mental health, treat us with empathy and considering they are in the hospitality business to provide us with some sort of hospitality by at least opening a bar, allowing us to: • Collect refreshments to stock our fridge. • Collect clean towels and linen. • Go outside and get fresh air, instead of keeping us locked in our room. • Instead of deploying the staff to keep all the public areas clean, they could have deployed staff to empty our bins and sweep the rooms as a bare minimum. • Provided us with hand sanitizer (this was available in Montego Bay and Reggae Hotel) I sent a letter to the RIU Complaints Team, but I received a standard reply which says they did their best at the time. We beg to differ, at a minimum, they could have offered us some credit to put towards another RIU stay. With hindsight, its probably just as well they did not as we are voting with our feet and will never stay at another RIU resort again.

Scam at hotel/ Not to be trusted to stay here

Hotel Riu Palace Jamaica – Never Again Never again will I stay at Hotel Riu Palace Jamaica. After being at the resort for four days, I returned from dinner and suddenly could not access my room. When I went to the front desk, I was told they had locked me out because they claimed I damaged a towel with hair dye—which is completely false. I do not have dye in my hair. Staff refused to let me back into my room to retrieve my passport or any of my personal belongings. I was traveling alone and felt extremely unsafe. I repeatedly asked for the police to be called, and staff refused every time. I asked to speak with an authorized manager, but they refused. I ended up FaceTiming my family because I was scared and crying, and the staff and management said, “We are not talking to her with her family on FaceTime.” I was left without access to my room, my documents, or any support. The situation became so serious that I had to contact my embassy to get out safely. This experience was terrifying, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. I will never stay here again and strongly warn others. Nothing was never mentioned to me to come talk with one one about towels only do a survey. This was unacceptable to a young girl traveling alone.

    Would recommend

We spent an amazing 10 days here. All the staff were excellent. A special mention must go to Jay (aka the hulk) who being a new member to the team did not look out of place and you would not know he was new an excellent edition. Plenty of choice at the many restaurants, our favourite being Krystal. At the buffet restaurant we were spoilt for choice. There were plenty of drink options as well. The house keeping team made sure the rooms were spotless. The bar staff were always happy to serve and enjoyed a chat. Did not meet a member of the team that did not have a smile on there face and were not than happy to engage with you making you feel welcome.

Best All Inc I’ve ever been to. Jamaica is also badly bruised but still beautiful.

I’m not sure if I’ve given 5 dots to a hotel before. But this one is getting 5. It fully deserves it. Hotel is nice, food is very nice, wide range of options , good amount of Jamaican specialities. You’ll get jerk chicken. Rice , curried goat. As well as a wide selection of other food. For those used to European All Inc it’s a lot better, and there is more spice involved. It’s not bland at all. Clean, in great state of repair. Apart from the palm trees, you wouldn’t know the hurricane affected the site. The adjoining Reggae is the nicer of the two hotels that you can also use. The Montego Bay is huge and a bit too busy for me. The Palace is more chilled. The reason I’m going to give it 5 stars are the staff. They are all lovely. Even the reception have been fine with me, seem to have been a bit of criticism of them for some reason. Had no issues, (haven’t checked out yet so I’m not letting that skew the review). But I have to single out a few superstars. Archer and Omar, from the bars. But the entertainment crew are simply amazing. Genius. Deniro, DJ unstoppable, Stringbean, Chocolatte, and the star of the show Astro. That guy genuinely should have been picked up by someone in London’s West End or Broadway, NYC. The guy should be on stage. If you work there. I urge you to check him out. They are an asset to Riu and are by far the best entertainment crew of be ever experienced on a holiday. The only negatives, and they’re not the hotels fault at all, is the pestering you can get once off the site. And also the devastation done to the island itself. It’s tragic what’s happened here as it is so badly damaged. But still come, the people are so nice, friendly and funny as well. I’ve fell in love with the place.
