Will not go back
I’ll try to make this as short as possible. I do take most reviews to heart before travelling. This was also my second time visiting. Will not go back. Shout out to the staff who made our trip “better” from their friendliness and attentiveness. Uriel at Roma. Naim at the steakhouse. Aaron Jr at the piano bar. Lili and Packo from the outdoor seated area of the buffet. Amazing staff that go the extra mile without it being phony. The bad- The weather. I know it’s not controllable, but when you know a certain destination is prone to bad weather avoid it. THIS ONE IS. Of all the places I’ve travelled - (Mexico many times) this is by far the worst. Almost every day between 1:30-3:30 there is a torrential downpour. Clouds roll in quick, thunder , lightning threatens and then your day is cut short. Rains for hours. We lost a lot of good beach or pool time hiding. The food- very important to me. This place did not meet any expectations. Buffet was better at times than the a la Carte. Sadly. Not that I did dinner in the buffet. I refuse. No pre reservation makes it harder to eat without an almost hour wait. ALSO—— certain a la cartes offer preferential treatment to what I consider a “local”- someone who speaks their native language. Even when you are back with your pager (after waiting an hour) and ready to be seated. Someone comes up and cuts you off, talks to the guy in charge of seating and immediately gets seated. True story. Very unnerving. Not acceptable. Also large groups take up a lot of time and space all over the resort. The food is OVER salted or bland. I’ll take bland. Overall staff- I find the woman wait staff to be less friendly or willing to help than the men. They have a mean face, will walk by you 10 times. Not friendly when actually helping you. It was surprising. Shows- the entertainment was lacking. They certainly try so A for effort but the shows 3 years ago just before Covid were much better. The entertainment seemed on the younger side. They try to be engaging prior which is nice but the actual show is just not good. Smokers-I am not a smoker, in fact it bothers me . My husband smokes cigars and thoroughly enjoyed watching the shows , having a drink and smoking last time. NOT ANYMORE. I am guessing a law passed in Mexico similar to in Canada about designated smoking areas. Was very upsetting. He smoked on the balcony only during our daily rain washout. All the other smokers had to leave where ever they were and walk somewhere else to smoke. While on vacay you want to enjoy yourself, If that means smoking. Overall it is not a 5 star in my opinion. It was a mediocre holiday. When we first went Pre Covid it was way better than this time (which is why we went back this year). It’s gone downhill. Nice to be away from everyday life, but not the vacation we were hoping for. I will not return to Playa Mujeres. 2 out of my 3 experiences here were not fantastic, two of them at Riu Palace. Weather and food are a big deal. Customer service as well. When you know a place has poor weather avoid it! Customer service was below average in my opinion. The select few staff mentioned really worked their butts off for us and everyone else they served and that made a big difference. They were genuine and not phony. I will stick to other parts of Mexico or other sun destinations moving forward. Other couples from our plane sadly had the same reviews.

Family trip
Once again we had an excellent vacation at Riu Palace. I wouldn't change anything at all. We brought family with us this time, they had a great time. The weather was amazing too. One of our most favorites one. We'll visit again.

Fab holiday.
Just back last week after a great holiday at the RIU PALACE COSTA MUJERES. The food in all the restaurants were very good with not much waiting for a table, The beach and sea were just perfect. Never any worry getting a bed no matter when you got there. Bar service at both the beach and the pools were quick and very efficient. Room was large and spotless.with a nice sea view. All in all no complaints

Good property. Uncomfortable sleep.
I am currently still staying in the resort. Have a few more days until checkout. Our family of 4 is stating on a ground floor suite. All the pros I can list, Resort is very clean. Always someone cleaning or windows being washed/wiped. Servers are friendly and attentive. The buffet food is overall a decent variety. I did try a few restaurants and wasn't impressed. It just felt like one higher end meat item with everything else off the plate was from buffet. The ribeye steak from the Steakhouse was very thin and wasnt cooked to my desired rareness. Also got food poisioning yesterday which I can't narrow down to but was on resort whole day and never drank tap or shower water. The bigger cons besides the food disappointments.. Having two double sized beds is bad enough for a travelling family. Sure a double bed is fine for 2 kids. But a double bed for adults is pretty small. Now our kids at home have double beds. And when we had to go to sleep on these beds here we felt something was different. It was smaller. So I literally measured the beds. The bed is 49.5" wide. Or 50" to be fair. Doubles are 53 or 54" wide. The beds are not even a normal size and the 4" narrower is noticable when 2 adults are forced to sleep on it. We are not a large couple and can't sleep comfortable on it. I can't imagine some other families I have seen on our trip who are going thru the same issue. Not really a good impression to cheap out on. I had to resort to taking the couch cushions off and making a bed on the floor to satisfy everyone in the room for comfort besides me. And one other note, I get it for king bed rooms that the bath and bathroom area doesn't need to be private or separated. But if there is 2 beds and kids travelling with parents it would be helpful if there can be a curtain or privacy wall from living room to bathroom area.

Don’t go!!!!!!!
Terrible customer service. Bugs in a room. Broken glasses at the time of arrival. Automatic doors not working. Service workers at the rooms amazing but people at bar and coffee shop are not friendly at all. Management unapproachable. Very disappointed on my first vacation with RIU. Will be adding pictures of bugs later today.
