Amazing stay. Good Celiac experience.
My husband and I recently went to Riu Palace Aquarelle the week of September 29, 2024- October 6, 2024. I am celiac and I did my research before leaving. I have to admit I was nervous as this hotel is new and is still experiencing growing pains and may not have all the experience to host individuals with an allergy. At check in we were greeted by Nyoka a front desk agent. She was incredible! Her warmth, kindness and genuine interest in making each guests stay wonderful was refreshing. After explaining my celiac concerns Nyoka reassured me she would make sure my stay would be a good one. She assisted me in notifying the head chefs at the restaurants to consult me before ordering. Nyoka checked in with us through out our stay to ensure things were going well. Thank you Nyoka! Management needs to be aware of just how amazing she is. She made a huge difference from my experience being a good one versus a bad one. At the buffet all food items were labeled with allergy information. Buffet staff always took time to answer my questions. At the restaurants the head chefs met with me and advised me what I could eat. Some restaurants were very limited as I feel chefs are not as knowledgeable as they could be but that is on management to help them understand alternatives and to think outside the box. One amazing chef at the Asian restaurant stood out, Alistair Daley. Not only did he create an incredible gluten free meal but he went above and beyond to accommodate my allergy. His dedication to clients and their needs should be acknowledged. The Riu management team needs to make sure all chefs are given the correct tools to accommodate allergies. Something as simple as gluten free soya sauce would make Alistar’s job easier. At the buffet there should be a gluten free area with a designated toaster for breakfast with a variety of wrapped bake goods. Currently they have a small container with bread wrapped on plates. Overall this hotel is AMAZING the grounds are beautiful, staff are friendly, engaging, and kind. The hostess at the Asian restaurant, Tasekie was wonderful and Yanique at the front desk was very helpful. The beach is beautiful and the food was great. Booking restaurants was a bit tricky but knowing they could be booked 24 or 48 hours in advance was helpful. We will definitely return.

Disappointing Stay at Riu Aquarelle Jamaica: Not Worth the Hype or Price
Our stay at Riu Aquarelle Jamaica was by far the worst resort experience we’ve had in the last 10 years. This place is nowhere near a 5-star hotel. The resort feels cheaply built, with peeling paint, dirty and discolored tiles in the bathrooms, and unclean spaces under the beds and sofas, leaving rooms smelling awful. Even upgrading the room is a waste, as most are the same in poor quality. Everything you buy at the resort is overpriced, and the taxi drivers try to sell cannabis and overcharge tourists. The noise from the stage is unbearably loud, and no room offers a quiet escape. If you’re traveling with infants and need some peace, this is not the place for you. The entertainment is low-budget and unimpressive. Reserving restaurants, like the steakhouse, is a nightmare. You’re required to use their app to reserve 24 hours in advance, but the app is almost always unavailable. The slow WiFi makes using the app or ordering room service a hassle, forcing me to rely on my roaming data just to function. On top of all this, the staff is generally unwelcoming, and the service is subpar at best. Families should avoid this resort—the smoking area, positioned right behind the stage in the middle of the resort, reeks of cannabis, making the entire place smell unpleasant. Overall, this resort fails on almost every front. Definitely not recommended.

Awful, don’t waste your time and $
I recently booked a tour with Sunwing during my stay at RIU Aqurrel in Jamaica and my experience was nothing short of disastrous. After paying for the excursion, we waited over an hour for the transportation, only to discover that our tour was never dispatched. No one informed us, and we were left waiting without any updates. When we tried to resolve the issue, we were repeatedly told to come back and wait—once for over 20 minutes—on three separate occasions in a single day. Despite the inconvenience and frustration, there was no apology or any sense of urgency to fix the problem. Now, two days later, we still haven’t received a refund for a service that was never provided. This level of disorganization and poor customer service is unacceptable, and I strongly advise against booking any excursions through Sunwing. They take your money but don’t deliver on their promises. Absolutely terrible experience. Photo shows us still waiting to get our refund.
