Excellent and Enjoyable Vacation
My entire stay at the Hotel RIU Ocho Rios was excellent. The check in staff was very knowledgeable and helpful; I totally enjoyed the room and its cleanliness, the dining staff was courteous and helpful, the food was excellent, the drinks and the entertainment was excellent. The only issue was the problems with the electricity going on and off in the middle of the night.

Dont think I would go back
Check in was very quick. The Riu member service was excellent. The food had a lot of Jamaican options. There rooms very well kept. There was a few nights that the power went out. Woke up the Children very often. The pool was not kept up to standers. All my children, nieces and nephews all got hands mouth and foot well there. It was not a very good experience for going there for the first time.

Our 3rd stay
We spent two weeks in Rui in room 2519 – 5th floor. This is our 3rd stay at the Riu Ochi – stayed 2017, 2022 and 2024 which we had a lovely time. The view from our room was amazing and I would recommend that room if you’re not scared of heights. Food this time around tasted a lot better this year perhaps chef changed lol, when we were in Rui in 2022 the food to us tasted very bland, this time it was very tasty. The rooms are now showing signs of wear and tear since the refurbishment. Entertainment - Riu you really need to revamp and refresh your entertainment all that singing and dancing is getting boring and repetitive, the same thing year in, year out. How about alternative acts like fire dancing, acrobatic something daring that get the audience gasping. RIUFIT – Riumba and steps class were fun, aqua aerobic got a good turn out and everyone looked like they were having fun, I didn’t partake in that class. The music in the exercise area kept chipping out during the class due to overheating equipment this was soooo annoying as the instructors had to keep stopping to restart the music so we were not able to get the best from the class – Riu please sort this out. Housekeeping – Our housekeeping young lady Vero was amazing; she cleaned the room daily leaving us lovely towel art on the bed. She also remembered us from 2022 and gave us a lovely warm hug, she is defiantly an asset to your hotel. There was one thing that really put a damper on our arrival to the Riu Hotel and left us doubting whether we want to return. We booked and fully paid for the two weeks at Riu in February 2024, the holiday was 15th September – 29th September therefore the cost of the hotel room had obviously been paid off in full. When we arrived at the hotel, we were asked for the credit card that the booking was made and paid with, unfortunately the card that we paid for the hotel with had been damaged and the card issuer issued a replacement card therefore we could only present the new card which obviously had the same account details but different card number, as much as we had alternative ID which clearly matched same name as credit care, the hotel receptionist said that this was not acceptable as they needed the original card, we explained that this was impossible as the care was damaged and then disposed of. We asked them why this would be necessary as the money had already been taken from the account in February therefore why couldn’t the new card with same account details not be acceptable, the receptionist still refused the replacement card. The long and short of it according to Riu “RULES” they would have to cancel the originally booking, reimburse to the credit card which they told us would be reimbursed back onto the card in hours (obviously this did not happen immediately may I add) we had to pay for a whole new booking and wait for the whole process which meant we had to wait around in reception for HOURS, extremely exhausting and annoying. To top it they reimbursed the cost of two weeks to the WRONG credit card, they put it on my credit card not my husband (the original payee) so this meant that my credit card had a massive credit on it which I had to ask the credit card company to reimburse to my bank account so I could reimburse my husbands credit care……….what a hulabaloo NEVER AGAIN!!! So, folks make sure you have the credit card that you booked hotel with even if its out of date, damaged been replaced etc. Oh, another annoying thing, Riu receptionist talk to you like they are reading from a script, please take your time with your customers, don’t churn out the information like it’s a learnt script, talk to us like you are having a conversation!! This MAY be our last visit to Riu Ochi the jury is still out.

Poor customer service at reception, rude waiters. Electricity problems during our stay the list goes on….
I NEVER POST REVIEWS BUT FEEL THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE. The staff at reception were not very helpful or welcoming, on arrival we weren’t given clear instructions on where our room was as it was very far walk at night we got lost. Our room (2bedroom family superior) was FAR, if you’re planning on staying there be prepared for a lot of walking! I spent a lot of time walking when wanted this holiday to be about relaxing. I had back pain after our 16 hour journey which I told reception staff on arrival, the room was too far, they did nothing to help just said that’s your room nothing we can do. She didn’t even try to help! Everything is too much for them, they don’t go out their way to help customers that’s paid alot of money to stay at there hotel! Our electrics was tripping out most part of our holiday, with no warning. which was awful (hotel said it’s a local problem) honestly I wanted to move to a different hotel. We missed several shows bcos of the electric problem. Our key cards were constantly stopping working which was such a hassle bcos had to walk bk and forth to reception to change keys which was tiring in the heat. Some of the dining staff were RUDE even to our children. One of them especially in the st Anne’s terrace he would see us needing drinks but would purposely not serve us. Another one would have an attitude with us for no reason, we felt uncomfortable. There is a stray cat that lives in the jerk area that looks very poorly, my children wanted to give him some water as he looked dehydrated this same waiter then purposely kicked over the water so the poor cat couldn’t have any and we just thought how cruel. We didn’t even want him serving our drinks after that…the rude waiters and unhelpful reception staff put a huge downer on the hotel as the hotel itself is beautiful and they’re some very nice staff we met. The reception staff make you feel like you are the problem we’ve never experienced customer service this bad. They won’t go out there way if the customer isn’t happy. They make you feel shut off and they truly don’t care if you enjoy your stay or not. I won’t go back to this hotel paid a lot of money and feel upset our holiday which was to celebrate my sons 11 birthday was ruined because of these problem we experienced. Wish I chose another hotel to be honest with you.
