Great experience, a perfect break with amazing people
Overall the whole experience was what I expected from a Riu, and I wasn't let down. It's a adults only 24/7 resort. I stayed by myself from 4th December 25 to 11th December 25. It is great for those that do not like a long transfer, it was USD 20 from one of the licensed taxi's at the front/exit of the airport. It took about 10 minutes. You could sense a bubbly and friendly environment from the minute I got out of the car. The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. A quick check in (or you can check in via the Riu App). I arrrived late afternoon, which I thought was perfect as I could see things in the light and get some bearings on what is where. The bell boy took about 30 minutes to deliver my bags, bit of a pain as I just wanted to get out and have a beer. But I guess they are busy. The one thing I didn't like, and didn't read beforehand (my fault) is that there are only a few places you are allowed to smoke, basically the beach and a few small smoking points dotted around. Non-smokers will love the sound of that BUT..... there were a lot more people smoking vapes, which they can smoke anywhere (excluding restaurants)! And in my view, it is more continuous and creates more smoke/vape than cigarettes. I guess the positive is I didn't smoke half what I normally would have. For those that do want to smoke, from the main pool area/(Roots (includes a swim-up bar)) beach bar / sun loungers) the beach is a 2 minute walk or the smoking area 3-4 minutes walk (next to Exodus lounge bar). So, for the evening in the Exodus lounge/sports bar/Disco the smoking area is down the steps and right in front. You can get towels from the towel hut next to the main pool (exchange a card and get a towel, likewise - give the towel back and you get the card back) Ps. Hold on to your towel/card becuase if you lose it, is 10 or 20 USD fine. I thought there were plenty of sunbeds, the main pool area gets very lively so gets full quickly. However there are the other pool areas or the beach, again with plenty of beds, which seems to always have beds. The drink selection overall was good, including branded drinks throughout the resort, including optics in your room (Gin, Rum, Whisky and Vodka) . There is the sports bar which is 24-hours (drinks and snack (burgers, hot dogs, pizza etc.), which is upstairs via the stairs next to the toilets in Exodus. The food I found really good. To be honest I eat one day at Pepe's food grill on the beach (light snacks including jerk chicken) which was nice. But I eat mainly in the Rose Hall buffet restaurant as I cannot be bothered with having to make bookings (as you had to for the al a carte restaurants (via the Riu App or at reception). But the choice in the manin buffet restaurant (Rose Hall) was sufficient, with plenty of choice. So, overall I would say the food is really good. The staff were amazing - I would name a load of them as they made me feel so welcome (especially as I was on my own), but there are too many to name. They really work hard on ensuring you have a great time, and nothing is too much. They really are all stars, from the cleaners, entertainment, bar/restaurant ....... all of them. Thanks! Finally the room. It was a room, pretty basic, but that is all I needed. The important things for me are clean bedding and towels, plenty of hot water and a stocked minibar (water/soft drinks). It was a tick for everything except my bar was not restocked (supposed to be every 2 days). But eventually I did say to reception and it was remedied immediately. One point/observation - Whilst I was there, there were a lot of Jamaicans, and I mean a lot. Which I have no issue with, as they are always up for a great time & lots of fun. But I felt, they totally overtook the main pool/swim-up bar area. Only mentioning this, as some people didn't like this/or whoever is reading this may not like it / that type of environment. So overall a great experience, loved the hotel and people and cannot wait to return.

Amazing experience!
Everything is great here! The service staff at buffet, bars and restaurants were very professional and friendly. Housekeeping was excellent and punctual, and left room immaculate. Whole hotel is kept very clean. Pools were super clean as well. The food is definetly the highlight! Jerk chicken, jerk pork, jerk fish, oxtail. The Jamaican selection is really good. Lots of different fresh pastas like gnocci. Lots and lots of crispy bacon. Peking duck and roast beef. This is just a few of the things at the buffet. Tonnes of desserts also. Everything was so fresh and tasty each meal, not sitting out or old like some other resorts. High quality on everything served! Would definetly recommend this resort for an adults only.

No pickup from airport at paid, no tv, no phone on room, no drink service from pool bar, condescension from “concierge”
Do not go here as single female traveler review blacked out - paid services not provided. No airport pickup, no tv, no phone, no drinks unless you are under 25 and sloppy before noon

Riu Montego Bay. The Best
Riu Montego never disappoints. Food is good, staff is warm and the entertainment team is the best at any hotel I’ve ever been to. I can’t wait to go back

A Stay Marked by Safety, Kindness, and Quiet Excellence
We stayed at RIU Montego Bay during Hurricane Melissa—a time when the resort’s usual rhythm of entertainment and leisure was replaced by a calm, focused commitment to safety and care. While we didn’t get to experience the hotel in its full glory, what we did witness was a team of professionals rising to the occasion with grace and strength. From the moment the storm approached, the staff shifted gears seamlessly. Their priority was clear: keeping guests safe, informed, and reassured. Entertainment took a back seat, and rightly so. Instead, we saw security protocols handled with quiet efficiency and genuine concern. It was clear that the team was working under immense pressure, yet they remained composed, kind, and attentive. Though our time in the restaurant was limited, each meal felt like a small act of hospitality. The food was excellent—fresh, flavorful, and served with care. The waiting staff were nothing short of remarkable, offering warmth and professionalism despite the challenging circumstances. Their smiles and gentle humor were a balm in the midst of uncertainty. It’s bittersweet to reflect on what might have been. The glimpses we caught—of the beautiful grounds, the welcoming atmosphere, and the thoughtful touches—suggest that RIU Montego Bay is a place where joy and relaxation flourish in normal times. We didn’t get the full experience, but we did get something rare and meaningful: a stay defined by humanity, resilience, and quiet excellence. We hope to return one day under sunnier skies. Until then, we carry deep gratitude for the team who made us feel safe, cared for, and seen.
