Great hotel for what you pay for

We loved our stay at the Jalisco. The rooms definitely need upgrading, and it's happening summer 2024. We stayed in a family room with two queen beds and one single bed. My only complaint about the room is there is absolutely zero privacy. The bathroom is wide open to the room with only a door on the toilet room. For a family, there is no privacy for changing or for parents. Might want to try to upgrade to a family suite with two bedrooms and two bathrooms next time. The mattresses were hard and lopsided. But that will be upgraded this summer. The grounds are gorgeous. I loved all the open air restaurants. Loved the staff. Very helpful. The staff work VERY hard to keep the grounds clean. Could use more public washrooms around the pool area. The beach area is so great! Wish they played music on the beach. It's a very busy beach area, but there was never a shortage of chairs. We were able to find chairs at the pool in the later afternoon not in the first row, but all together in a group of 8. Night entertainment was excellent other than the Saturday night. The staff do a great job making sure their guests have fun. For activities we saw pool volleyball, beach volleyball, darts, cornhole, soccer tournament, bocce ball. Great value for dollars paid. If you want a 5 star, pay for a 5 star, and go to a 5 star.

    Run down and short staffed.

The hotel is run down and in need of a renovation or maintenance. They need more staff as they couldn’t keep with cleaning tables or serving guest. There’s no pool side service and the bartenders were on their phones rather than making drinks. The ocean side equipment staff were drinking beers beside the building and wouldn’t let anyone use the water toys all week even when the water conditions signs were green.

    I wouldn’t go back

Came for a friend/family wedding and is the only reason I came to this resort and my first time in Mexico. Customer service, is a zero, unfriendly staff with a few exceptions. No focus on customer and a lot of the time it seemed I was inconvenient to them, unless you throw money at them. Cleanliness, I’d give a 2, public bathrooms are always cleaned and attended to, if you don’t have your do not disturb sign on by 8 am, they come knocking to make up room. The walls, ceilings or maybe deep clean items need to get done and doesn’t seem much focus on that. Paint jobs around resort and in rooms looks like it was done in half day with paint drops EVERYWHERE! Beach/pools, 3.5, there is a party pool mostly with adults that throw kids in water and let them do whatever they want, pool 2 is a little quieter but still kids! And there is a kid pool as well. Tiles in pools need some repairs and no areas to actually swim, nothing over like 5.5’ of water. Good amount of chairs at each location and you do t have to go save at 8am to get a spot. Beach/ocean area has a lot of chairs, shade if you want and sand is kept up nicely. No service for drinks, you have to go to bartender to get filled. Do t forget a big tumbler from home! People selling stuff can’t come on the property so you’re not constantly harassed to buy stuff . Food, 3, pretty much same food everywhere, if it’s not fresh, it’s prob a day old. Wedding reception at steakhouse, I’d say it was ok. Servers were talking to themselves while bride & groom were giving speech, had to tell them to stop, still didn’t really. We’re serving whole speeches going, but only half got served. Overall, won’t be back!

    RIU Jalisco

We were pleased with everything there. Staff was friendly and we really liked Omar at the Italian restaurant. The food was good except for the rib eye steak at the steakhouse. It could be a little thicker cut. We were very pleased with the maid service. We will come back next year and try the RIU Vallarta.

    Our stay at riu jalisco

The one and only complaint I have is about chair holds around the pool with towels. They need to enforce a rule like many other hotels are doing now. If the chair has not been in use for more than 1 hour the towel is removed. Finding a chair around the pool is near impossible even as early as 10 a.m with all the chairs "reserved" with towels , and no one claiming them for hours ans hours. Rooms are slightly dated, but who cares, how much time do we realistically stay in them. Water pressure was great and water hot for showers.
