Last time for the Riu Guanacasta !
This was our 7th time in Costa Rica, previously stayed 4 times at Riu Guanacasta and 2 times at the Riu Palace . After three years ( due to covid ) we decided to return to the Riu Guanacasta which was once our most favorite place . Our stay this year was somewhat disappointing ; it isn't the same place as it used to be . Although the rooms were clean and comfortable they are beginning to show their age ( chrome facets deteriorating and now show bare metal, outside edges of mirror show de-silvering , tops of vanities showing wear ) . Cleanliness throughout the facility was pretty good although when we first starting going to this resort it was top notch ! Back in the day you always seen 40-50 employees continuously cleaning floors and picking up garbage. The resort grounds are still well kept and the palm trees have grown to some extent that they are now blocking the ocean view of some rooms. Staff were generally friendly and helpful. The most disappointing thing was the food . Found the selection of food lacking and somewhat tiring after the third day . Bacon only served 3 days for the week we were there ( friends staying the same week at the Riu Palace next door had bacon every morning ) . It seemed the same food was served the entire time and everything was cooked to death ! Wild raccoons permitted inside the restaurants and would climb on chairs trying to get food off your tables ( they weren't very friendly critters either ) . If we return to Costa Rica next year we will go back to the Riu Palace , hopefully it will be an actually 5 star resort.

Not impressed
Just had a turtle come up on the beach early afternoon to lay her eggs, and I was disgusted by the number of people who thought it was ok to touch the turtle and then crowd her while she was laying her eggs there was no supervision from the rui guys but in fairness to them they may had not been told what to do apart from collect her eggs and put water on her. I thought rui was a company that was into helping to protect the environment and the well-being of turtles, etc .

Best week ever!
My son and I just got back from a week at the Riu Guanacaste. We had no expectations, The hotel was amazing , the grounds are impeccable. Rooms were perfect, comfortable beds ,and always fully stocked with drinks. We were lucky enough to try all the restaurants and all were great! The buffet was always fantastic, there was nothing else we could have asked for. The staff were kind and always willing to help. The entertainment was great every night as well. The beach was paradise. We really enjoyed feeding the Howler and white faced monkeys every morning. We did many excursions , and went to Coco beach for dinner which was fantastic! We had the best week making beautiful memories, in beautiful Costa Rica! thanks to the Riu Guanacaste for making our week so special! We will be back for sure .

Holiday
Was a lovely hotel but no kettle in the room was a big let down not enough smoking areas and also it would be a better system if we could book the al carte restaurants then everyone gets a night in at least one of them I think that would be much fairer

NOT worth the money
I stayed here with my family of 3 on July 2022 there was no covid guidelines being followed. some wore mask some didnt it was a buffet guest served themselves.. the rooms needed up dating. the resturants were just okay. the AC DID NOT keep out room cool at all. i was told i should stay at the rui palace which is up the road. there is a water park for the kiddos which was good. there is no wifi reception near pool. it was just an okay experience. i would i stay there again NO.
