Spacious rooms, clean resort, great location, average food, good entertainment, obnoxiously loud parties
The rooms were very spacious with two double beds pushed together and a pull out sofa bed, if needed. All rooms have balconies and the location is very beautiful. It is not close to the hotel center area of Cancun which was good for our group because we didn't want the party scene, but the shuttle to get back and forth was expensive at $80 each way for four people. Hotel staff was excellent, very friendly and accomodating. Food was fine- our family isn't very picky and we always managed to find what we wanted, but it wasn't anything special. Good for families and people who aren't too picky. The Wednesday night "White party" was WAY TOO LOUD and went way too late!! The rooms do not have good sound barriers so the sound travels through. If you don't want to stay up until midnight listening to the party, bring ear plugs, noise machines, and anything else you need to block out the loud bass and screaming from the outdoor night parties. At both the beach and the pool there were options for shade that I really appreciated and helped once our kids were burnt. There are fun shows on nights when there aren't parties, good entertainment for young kids as well as adults, and a good variety of shows. Eating as a large group was challenging, even after splitting up our group into groups of 9 and 10, so be prepared to split up if you are a large group. Our favorite restaurant was the pasta restaurant, least favorite was Bamboo (Asian restaurant). The water park area was also fun and even kept our older kids (16-18) occupied for a little while.

Luis Chavez. Re think this resort. Better safer places to go!
Stay away from this resort!!!!!! Front desk manager Luis Chavez is a horrible person! RIU should re consider having this rude, man degrading his guest and instilling fear to single moms visiting with thier kids. Telling them they don’t know how to parent and threatening to kick them out of the hotel and calling the police. Staff are serving alcohol to 17 year olds and when brought to Luis’s attention, he puts the blame on the parents. Security has a hands on approach before conversation. Our group had hands on our boys and a few of the moms. When brought to Luis attention he denies it and puts the blame on you, and again threatens to kick you out of the resort. Servers need to learn when to serve 18 year olds. Many young ladies were intoxicated beyond belief. The way they handled it, is by putting them on a wheelchair and dropping them off in there room unsupervised. I could go on, but I believe you get the picture. Riu, I will from this day on negatively speak of your resort. We have been travelling to beautiful Mexico every year for the past 13 years. We have never had an experience like this at the RIU dunamar with Luis Chavez as the face of your resort! Do better!!!

RIU DUNAMAR was spectacular !!!
We have travelled extensively and we can honestly say that we have NEVER stayed at any resort that was as clean and had better service !!! We are beach people and never once no matter what time of day were there ever a lack of available beach chairs !!! ... even around the pools there was no need for anyone to ever have to "save": chairs early in the morning ... especially at the beach with was incredible !!! The food was very good and if you could not find something you liked than that is on you ... as the variety was excellent !!! The service was great ... we cruise a lot and it was even faster than a cruise ... we ordered extra pillows and a blanket from the app and I swear they were at our door delivering it within minutes. We also drink a LOT of water so again I ordered extra water for our mini-fridge and explained we drink mostly water and everyday we had an abundance of water. Amazing and friendly service !!! The grounds were immaculately kept and the cleaning never stopped. We would return in a heat beat !!! If I had one criticism ... The television should have more English channels ... the specialty dining said it was first come first serve but that really was not the case ... you had to line up by 530pm and IF you were not lucky enough to get it at 6pm when they opened they give you a "call light disc" to call you back in aprx.90 minutes. These are small suggestions and overall we LOVED this resort and WILL return !!!

Front desk manager
I am writing this review to express serious concerns about the conduct and professionalism of the front desk manager Luis Chavez. Throughout my experience, his conduct was consistently inappropriate and deeply troubling. He demonstrated unethical conduct, including a lack of transparency and questionable decision making that undermined trust. Our interactions with him felt intimidating, with communication delivered in a way that was dismissive and hostile. There were instances where his behavior came across as sexist with a lack of respect. The security staff was unnecessarily aggressive and forceful. Interactions were abrupt, with little effort made to communicate calmly or respectfully. Overall the resorts expectations were contradictory and irrational. I would not return to this resort.

Family Spring Break Trip March ‘26
RIU Dunamar 6 nights March 13-19, 2026. Family trip for spring break. This was our first time at a RIU and it didn’t disappoint! Booked transportation thru RIU from the airport. Check in went great. Front desk worked through an issue we had for our three rooms and got us in the rooms ahead of the official check in time. That was a preview of the service level that RIU provides. The staff here was unbelievable, friendly and helpful. That includes bartenders, housekeeping, maintenance, servers, cooks, lifeguards, security, hospitality, entertainment, etc as they were ALL very pleasant and happy. That really caught our attention because in our experience there is almost always someone who is unpleasant to deal with at these all inclusive resorts but Not Here! Something that is also noticeable here is that cleaning crews are ALWAYS sweeping, mopping, washing, bussing, cleaning, mowing, etc. even on the beach they are constantly cleaning the sand and removing any weeds that have washed up. Impressive! This place was spotless! The food was decent with a wide variety of options daily. Pompeya and Bamboo were our family favorites but I enjoyed Pepe’s grill by the pool daily. Improvements I can think of were that the dining and common areas are very loud. No sound attenuation in the large open rooms and it was hard to carry on a conversation at times. There were also kids running around at times in the buffet area that made it difficult to navigate. That’s more of a parent problem than a RIU problem though. I thought the bed was too firm and uncomfortable. I didn’t sleep well at all in the bed but the pool loungers did the trick to catch up on a nap. The tile floors were also very slippery at times so be careful when walking barefoot or with flat shoe soles. Staff Shout Outs: Santiago in the sports bar. Awesome bartender and my 13 year old bonded with him because he made him special non alcoholic drinks daily. When he got missing we would find him in the sports bar hanging out with Santiago. By day 2 I would walk in the door and Santiago would have my drink ready at the bar, then would make sure the glass was never empty. He is awesome! Jerry at the pool bar. He got my teens addicted to virgin mudslides. Edward delivering drinks on the beach. He is always one step ahead of you! Freddi working the mobile pool bar cart. Amazing on what he can whip up quickly and you can set your watch by his timeliness before your cup goes dry.
