2 NIght Stay at the Rio

This was our third time staying at the Rio. We love walking from there to the Strip. I would definitely not recommend staying in the Masquerade Tower. The only benefit we found was that there is a walk over from the parking garage. There is a good variety of shows, slot machines and restaurant choices.

3:30 PMSecond Chance, Second Failure: Rio Las Vegas Doesn't Deserve Your Business

I'm a VP of Guest Experience in the hospitality industry, so I understand that one bad experience can be an anomaly. That's why after an incredible first stay at the Rio, I gave them not one, but two more chances. What I discovered is that their failures aren't isolated incidents—they're systemic problems that management refuses to address. Visit #2 (February 2025): Health Hazard & Hate Speech I arrived to find what appeared to be blood stains on my sheets and pillow—large enough that housekeeping likely injured themselves. When I reported it, I was told to simply move rooms because they couldn't change sheets for "several hours." At the front desk, after waiting in line, the staff was dismissively rude and refused to help. When I explained this was a health hazard, the employee whispered "FAG" under their breath. I immediately checked out and left my keys at the desk. Here's the kicker: despite requesting checkout, they never processed it. I only discovered this when reviewing my account later. I never received a single phone call, email, or any acknowledgment of this incident. Visit #3 (December 2025): Broken AC & Absurd "Solutions" Despite the previous disaster, the strength of my first visit convinced me to try once more. I gambled approximately 10,000 points in just a few hours on Wednesday—I'm the type of guest casinos want. That evening, I returned to discover the air conditioning didn't work. The room was over 80 degrees. I called housekeeping, pressed "zero," and was told no one could help—I had to call the hotel FROM MY CELL PHONE because their system can't transfer to the front desk. Their solution? A box fan. The next day, I returned to the front desk to change rooms as instructed. The agent said he could only move me to the Masquerade Tower—a downgrade. When I declined, he informed me I'd have to PAY an upgrade fee to stay in the Ipanema Tower. Let me repeat: my air conditioning was broken, leaving my room at 80+ degrees, and they wanted to charge me to fix THEIR problem—or force me into an inferior room. Only after I mentioned calling my casino host Kim did someone in the back office (who refused to come out) authorize a standard room in Ipanema at no charge on the 3rd floor. At no point did anyone offer to place me back in a comparable suite or apologize for the inconvenience. The Billing Nightmare: 5+ Ignored Support Requests I booked a complimentary stay and was charged the full amount. Over the past several weeks, I've submitted 5 separate support requests through their online chat system. Their bot says to wait 48 hours for a response. I've received ZERO responses. Not even an automated acknowledgment. I contacted Hyatt corporate—nothing. I reached out to American Express, provided my booking confirmation and hotel receipt, and received an instant refund with no questions asked. AmEx saw immediately what the Rio refused to acknowledge. The Real Problem: No Service Standards This isn't about one rude employee or one broken AC unit. This is about a property with: No basic SLAs (service level agreements) for guest communication No follow-up protocols for serious incidents (discrimination, health hazards) No empowerment for front desk staff to resolve problems No accountability from management As someone who works in hospitality at the executive level, I would never tolerate treating ANY guest this way—much less an invited, high-value player. The fact that a homophobic slur was uttered and management never even called me speaks volumes about their culture. Bottom Line: The Rio had one amazing experience in them—and they've spent two visits proving it was a fluke. If you're considering staying here, ask yourself: do you want to gamble at a property where management ignores discrimination, refuses to fix broken rooms without charging you, and doesn't respond to customer service requests? There are dozens of properties in Las Vegas that would be grateful for your business. The Rio clearly isn't one of them. To Rio Management (if you're reading this): You still have 5 unanswered support tickets waiting. But honestly, at this point, your silence says everything.

    Average

Lower Resort Fees since it is off the strip hotel. Bring back some old quarter slot machines without the high max play or multipliers. Need to bring back Buffet.

    Post Nuclear Hotel & Casino

The Rio is a shadow of what it once was. The hotel room is run down and dated with rips in the carpet and wall paper, stains on the sofa and carpet. The bathroom looks like it is from the early 90's. And worst of all, the room had no warm or hot water. The casino, shops and restaurants look for the most part abandoned. This will probably my last visit here. Although as always, YMMV. No pics were taken since it was too depressing.
