    Amazing family holiday

I booked 11 nights at family club grand bávaro princess for my husband’s 40 (along with our 2 primary school aged children) and wow, what a trip we’ve had!! As I always read trip advisor reviews I wanted to share a detailed summary of all our amazing holiday plus a couple of suggestions for improvement. *All the good stuff* 1- the staff and service: really made our made our holiday, Miguel-Angel at Mordisco keeping the wine flowing at lunch, Amarillas also, always so lovely with our girls. Maria & Lorenny at the Gnomo bar who work so hard keep us all dehydrated , Jaime at 24/7 bar for his lethal (but amazing)G&Ts that were made the second we walked through the door, luck man for arranging my amazing massage with Carmen, marco the 24/7 doctor who dealt with my inflammation issue straight away, Ricardo at teppanyaki who put on an amazing show and last but most definitely not least Cristal, mirielys & Leidy at the family club animación team, they work NONE stop from morning till night to entertain the kids! 2- the rooms- we had the swim up room 9037 which gets sun all day til ~4pm which was great for the kids to swim whilst we got sunshine, rooms cleaned daily and we left a dollar each day for extra beer and water in the room 3- the restaurants- for us, mordisco (kids buffet) was perfect for breakfast and lunch, right near the room, not busy at all & all the usual foods for the kids plus grilled meats, salad, etc for the adults. We did try the main & beach buffet at lunch but they were too busy for us. (Always tables but we just like it a bit more chilled) Cappuccino coffee shop is a nice added bonus for a morning coffee. We tried all but the fish à la carte restaurants, but our favourite was Wasabi (sushi) & teppanyaki but, they were all lovely! 4- Icecream truck and slushies- Icecream van at family club opens from around 2-4pm which was great, and my kids loved the endless free slushies, there’s also an Icecream shop near the theatre for a late night dessert! 5- kids splash pool near beach- it is shallow & had a little pirate ship with slides, kids loved that and then visiting the swim up bar in main pool after 6- 24-7 bar. Love be fact they had a mini buffet in there (just a small one that seemed to always be open) which meant we could do pre/post dinner g&Ts and the kids could nibble on fruit/pastries/chips etc 7- family club reception. Always open and easy to get needs addressed *Slight improvements* Honestly, I’m being picky because this place is great. 1- the slides in the kids club are for kids only which meant my youngest was too scared to go on them the WHOLE holiday 😓. My husband did try & go down with her & got whistled at which was a shame because many other adults got the pleasure of taking their children down & not being reprimanded, therefore there should be clear signage & a full time lifeguard as it’s not fair for the young girls in the kids club to be looking after the children in the kids club PLUS supervising slides, that’s too much 2- wine- what you’d expect to an all inclusive and we were happy to buy a nice bottle at dinner but the house wine wasn’t amazing 3- drains- as with many Caribbean resorts the drains get a bit smelly in room but cleaner comes each day and it seems to clear Honestly though, I’m being picky, this is one of the best holidays weeks been on. The staff work SOOO hard day and night & we’ve come back VERY satisfied! Tip- bring lots of €1 bills, little tips go a long way to getting great service ! We will be back for sure!!

RED FLAG, NES the front desk receptionist

1st time at this resort. Resort was great but the 1 star is for three front desk receptionist NES. Had a great experience with Alex. He works at the desk to the left when you walk in the office to check in. He has a great attitude, very nice, make you feel welcomed, goes above and beyond, etc. But NES, front desk receptionist to check in, HE'S HORRIBLE! He do not like helping us (tourist) at all. As of matter of fact, he tell lies to get you out of his face. I was unable to make reservations the day I arrive because it was a error on their end. Went to the desk, asking NES for the manager. He said they don't have manager's like we do in the US. They handle everything because when you got manager's, they don't know what's going or not at the job. Then he ask how can he help me. Told him about the issue that the app had an error and I was unable to make reservations to the steakhouse, I wanted him to make them for me. He said ok, go talk to concierge, she can go in the computer and make a reservation. Went to see Anngely, she was terrible, she didn't even try. She look at their reservations and said they were full, nothing she can do. Went back to NES, he said I'll handle it. He made a phone call "supposedly " to the restaurant. Spoke to someone for about 2 mins, hung up, phone rang, spoke to someone, ask me if 6:00 works for me, I said yes. He said ok your reservation at 6 tonight. Went to the steakhouse, stood in line for 13 mins, got to the podium, gave them my room number and last name to be told I didn't have a reservation. Told the guy to call NES, he made the reservation earlier. He called NES, and NES told him no we have a reservation at the Mexican restaurant. NES told me a bold face lie that we had reservations at the steakhouse. He called whomever to talk and made it seem as if it was the steakhouse, told them to call him back in 5 mins so I would think he actually made reservations so I could get out his face. All he had to do was tell me there was nothing you could do and I would of accepted that and walked away. Warning, when you see that face in the Pic below (white outfit) to get any kind of help or check in/out, ask for someone else, that's NES. He's TERRIBLE! They need to make Alex the receptionist. He's a Man that tells the truth. He apologized on behalf of the resort and for Nes everyday he saw us. Now that's a person that cares and deserves a raise. Nes is the reason me, my employees, family, friends etc will never come back to this resort. We'll take our money elsewhere.

    Almost perfect... Family section beware.

RED FLAG: I am going to start with this so it doent get lost in my review as I feel its important. the family selection resort looks fun and was fun up until a point. However, on our third day, one of the water buckets that fills up and dumps broke off from above, full of water, crashing down and absolutely destroying the platform. Kids were playing on that water park. Stop and think if there was a child in that section when it came down. Kids were in that section moments before... It would have killed a kid. It would have killed an adult with how heavy it was. No one came over the check on it until three dads were pulling this bucket off to the side. They shut it down for 30min before turning it back on saying they would check the integrity later.... We checked in with the staff to see if this was acctually done and not one person could assure us if it was. Inspecting the waterpark a little closer with our own eyes you could see the wear and tear... we were terrified to send our kids on there not knowing if one of the other three buckets would come crashing down and actually killing a kid this time. I was EXTREMELY disappointment with how they handled it. A family could have been bringing a child home in a body bag. It makes me think a little harder about how I pick future resorts with water parks knowing that the standard of upkeep of these structures isn't the same as it is in North America. The pictures they have posted are NOT up to date. Aside from this, this hotel was pretty good. In the Family selection, I enjoyed the private bar, ice cream truck, and buffet for just our area. The food was good, no complaints and the options endless. We had time for the food trucks, The steak house, Mexican, Teppanaki, and Italian restaurants. The service was a bit slow and you didnt always get what your ordered, or sometimes things were missing which was a bit hard with kids but everything was tasty and no one got sick. I will say we did have a big group so that may have been the issue with the mix up in the orders and the length, but when we did eat I was very impressed. To book restaurants you had to book on the resort app which barely worked and was a bit frustrating. I think this was due to Wifi being so awful. It was only a big deal for us since we had a huge group and was trying to keep track of where people were but we made things work. Guest services was helpful in booking restaurants however so that is a way around it. The rooms, pools, general bathrooms, resort greenery was very clean and the staff was friendly. There is a section on the resort that is a green, jungle space. I think it may be a swamp and it smelled pretty awful when you went through it but just hold your breath. I got the family selection swim out which I absolutely loved. It was perfect for my 3year old and 6month old. It allowed my 6m to nap while we were still able to be pool side. The rooms were spacious and clean. The tiles however were extremely slippery. Not a great choice for a pool resort. The resort is large. They did have a tram which my kids loved so no complaints there but you did have the trekk down to the beach from the family selection and for people in the regular rooms it seemed like they had to make the trek to our area where most of the restaurants were. I would have been blown away by this resort had the waterpark not nearly killed a child and they handled things a bit better. But this is something I cant forget and other families should be aware of.

Not the Family-Friendly Experience We Expected

While the staff and grounds were lovely, I feel it’s important for future guests to know that all three of us became sick daily from the food, which seems tied to hygiene or food handling. This issue, along with the constant upsells, poor communication, and weak family offerings, means we would not return and do not recommend. Pros: The swim-up room was great and very clean. Staff throughout the property were genuinely kind and welcoming. The resort grounds are well-maintained with lots of visible upkeep. We appreciated the cute birthday package that was left in the room. Cons: Unfortunately, several issues overshadowed the experience: (1) The constant upselling throughout the resort was overwhelming. From the moment we arrived, we were approached for a timeshare-style “membership” pitch that took up a lot of our initial time. Once on the beach, vendors were immediately allowed to approach us on the sand to sell products and services, which made it hard to relax. Even while enjoying our swim-up room, staff came by upselling spa packages. It felt like we were being sold something at every turn rather than simply enjoying our stay. (2) The food was a major problem. From the first meal to the last, all three of us experienced stomach issues daily. It felt like food was left out too long, with bugs circulating around the buffet, and cross contamination. (3) Buffets rarely changed from day to day, which added to the disappointment. (4) The WiFi is extremely poor unless you pay an upcharge — another money trap. WiFi still sucked. (5) You cannot take food from the buffet, and room service is not included, both of which felt like unnecessary nickel-and-diming. (6) Events are not clearly communicated. For example, one night there were fireworks around 2am that were never mentioned anywhere. Not inclusive of families with children. (7) The amount of smoking everywhere on the property (cigarettes, cigars, weed) was overwhelming. There didn’t appear to be designated smoking areas, which is surprising for a family resort. (8) Our daughter said the kids club didn’t run the activities listed, which was disappointing since we chose the resort partly for that. In chatting with other families, they had similar feedback. (9) Transportation wait times (train/shuttle to the beach) were sometimes 15–20 minutes. We also saw people with strollers struggle to board due to crowding and aggressive boarding.

    Disgusted

--- ⭐️⭐️ 2.0 / 5.0 My experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. As an experienced traveler I’m used to handling challenges, but this stay was far below basic expectations. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING... The services were poorly organized. You can’t rely on daily or consistent communication, and everything seems available only “every other day.” Even the café is open for just few hours, and when it closes you’re left with nothing but a cup of coffee. The food was very poor — my whole family found the meals almost inedible. The facilities felt neglected, crowded, and uncomfortable. It didn’t feel like a safe or respectful environment, especially for children or families. I became sick during the stay and remained unwell afterward, which makes me concerned about cleanliness and food quality. For the price paid, the conditions were unacceptable, and I believe a partial refund is justified. Overall, this was one of the worst vacations I’ve had. I would not return under any circumstances. This vacation requires a full refund not partial. As l will ensure none of family / friends ever step foot this property 😒 ---My name Stephen Duncan/Paige Itwaru I information is registered Pitwaru@hotmail.com
