Jan 21, 2026Mostly very very good
Just had a really good stay at Planet Hollywood in Costa Rica, our first trip to Costa Rica. In general, the hotel was very good, made even better by a few individual efforts I’ll happily call out here. Unfortunately a few disappointments kept this trip from being 5 star, which it could have been, but the multiple failures have to be noted too. For reference, we booked the Star Class Directors Suite, so we had access to a “butler” to add extra service to our stay, premium access and selected extra’s at the resort. Awesome : 1) Edu, one of the multiple outstanding bartenders at the Premiere Bar (located in the lobby) simply blew us away. The most talented bartender I’ve come across in 25+ years of travel and going to bars. His drinks are not just drinks, they are art. ALL of the bartenders are incredible at this bar, but Edu stands out and reigns supreme. I am sorry I will not be drinking one of his cocktails today. 2) Yeraly, who works at the Star Class Pool. Can’t say enough kind things about the service, and true good person that he is. We so enjoyed our time with Yeraly as he was constantly checking in on us, always making our trip better, always bringing a smile to our faces and educating us on Costa Rica. He also made it a point to help my wife strengthen her Spanish while we were there, he was so incredibly patient with her and I appreciate him greatly. 3) Hillary at the Tex Mex restaurant/Star Class Breakfast. Hillary was more energetic than our triple expresso’s, she was a delight to see and talk with every morning, and just so authentically wonderful, I can’t not mention her. Not exactly what we hoped for: 1) our Butler, who I won’t name. Expected more service, actually had a day off and provided no back up person to work with us, said he scheduled a check-out pickup for us but 10 minutes after the time passed that we were supposed to be picked up, found out that never was scheduled and sent us scrambling, almost making us late for the airport to return home. He was nice, and handled dinner reservations, but if you’ve ever been to similar properties and had personal agents/butlers, this persons service simply didn’t live up to the billing or the additional price it cost, even without the pickup fail. 2) The Sunset Strip steakhouse. Steaks tasted very, very smoky, as if they were coated in ash. Steaks weren’t seasoned at all so maybe that was the seasoning: a heaping pile of burnt ashes, but whatever the cause, the steaks, and the sides, were inedible. Also, just for reference, the “iceberg wedge salad” by definition should be a wedge of iceberg lettuce, not a pile of shredded lettuce like you’d find on a taco. I do recommend this resort, everything was very clean, comfortable, and outside of the steakhouse, and the buffet which we didn’t visit, the food was generally good to very good. The coffee shop Fuel should have more options and could be open later than it is, but that’s a minor concern and inconvenience. Clean drinking water is readily available, their entertainment team works very hard, the facilities & pools are great, and the beach area (outside of the throng of non-affiliated vendors you have to get through) is pretty good.

Jan 20, 2026Diego (Man on Fire) Best Bartender Hands Down
During our 10-day stay at Planet Hollywood Cancun, we discovered an absolute gem at the Star Class pool bar and the Blue Lagoon Bar- Diego (Man on Fire, Onepiece), the bartender who quickly became the highlight of our daily routine. From the moment we met him, his infectious energy and huge smile made us feel like old friends. He has this remarkable ability to make everyone who approaches the bar feel genuinely welcome and valued. But Diego isn’t just about personality - the man is a true craftsman behind the bar. His drinks were consistently delicious, and we tried many of them throughout our stay. However, his Amaretto Sour became our absolute favorite. We sampled this drink at several bars around the resort, but Diego’s version was hands down the best. Perfectly balanced, beautifully presented, and crafted with obvious care and skill. What really sets Diego apart is his combination of talent and genuine hospitality. He remembers your preferences, takes pride in his craft, and brings an enthusiasm to his work that’s contagious. He turned what could have been just another poolside bar into a destination we looked forward to visiting every day. Diego is a true asset to Planet Hollywood Cancun, and we can’t recommend him highly enough. If you’re staying at the resort, make sure you stop by and ask Diego to make you his signature Amaretto Sour - you won’t regret it!

Jan 18, 2026Beautiful Property, but has some faults
Planet Hollywood Costa Rica is a lovely resort. The views are very beautiful, however it does have some downfalls. The resort is on a hill, you have to either take a golf cart up and down or walk. The golf carts run very frequently. Most food areas and check in are on the top of the steep hill and the pool area and beach are at the bottom. It is very steep. The pool area and beach are lovely. The chairs at the beach area are all in the shade, which is nice. The pool area has a lot of activities and it is loud…. Very loud!! Not that relaxing. Food at this resort is a problem. There isn’t enough restaurants to seat all the guest. If you don’t get a reservation, you can always eat at the buffet- which was very good. The reservation availability is hard to get if you are not a star class member. This is a Marriott property and they have a Marriott desk there. Unlike the PH property on Cancun, Marriott elite members got star class for free. Not here. As a Marriott elite member I was annoyed about this. I don’t think the extra money for a family of 4 was worth the star class. The lunch options are not good. They only thing by the pool are Guys Burgers- which are good despite other reviews or pizza. If you don’t want that you have to go all the way up the hill to the buffet. Would have like more options at the pool. There is a coffee shop called Fuel that has desserts , coffee and light sandwiches, but it closes at 6pm. The best restaurant we are in was Gusto, the Italian restaurant. The rooms are fine and the property is very well kept. We always saw people cleaning. Not too many products in the room, just extra shampoo and pumps shower products. We did have a very nice time, took an ATV tour through the hotel and another private tour. The staff was lovely and the night shows were good.

Home away from home!
Rooms are huge and beautiful. Nothing beats hearing the nature first thing when you wake up at Planet Hollywood Costa Rica.Joaquim at front desk made my arrival smooth and quick. Always going above and beyond, this resort has been great ever time i have been there as I have been a few times already this year. I enjoy the spa and the smaller pool bar has Karolina and her team make sure we have everything we need.Drinks there are sensational. The staff goes above and beyond and it’s not because I am VIP , because I am not. They just treat people like they would like to be treated. And that goes a long way in my books. Bigger has everything one needs. I feel safe at all times at this resort. Thank you again and see you soon.

We will go back to Planet Hollywood!! It’s a must!!
We had the best time! Our room was so clean! The food was delicious! The restaurants were so on top of it!! Make reservations. The service was excellent! We had the BEST service ever from the Star Pool from Karolina at the bar and Karolyn with the bar and food! They were so delightful and personable!! They made us all feel at home and were on top of it all!! We will go back!! We talked to others that stayed at other resorts and weren’t nearly as satisfied as we were!! We LOVED KAROLINA AND KAROLYN!! Thank you for making our stay the BEST!!
