Not 5*
Perhaps my expectations were too high. However, when you book a 5* hotel you do expect a certain standard. Lovely beach spoilt somewhat by the seaweed. Didn’t seem to be cleared everyday. Staff were sometimes indifferent especially in the outside area where you could eat breakfast. Everything seemed too much trouble for them. The ladies in the egg station were superb and an asset to you. Always smiling and polite. The pirate ship pool was as disgusting as you could hardly see the bottom. Goodness knows what was lurking in there. The restaurant by the pool was more like a greasy spoon you get on roadside. It stank of fried food and chips. Food here was always cold. The settees by the main buffet are filthy. Although the staff serving the drinks around here were excellent. Too many no go areas if you don’t upgrade. Loud music for most of the day even in the adult pool which was full of loud Americans drinking IN the pool. Our room was lovely room 3228. All in all we had a nice holiday with our family but I would not return.

Paradisus was once great....now looks to upsell you to death
I had stayed at this resort multiple times over the past 10 years and enjoyed every one of them. But the standard of care, the grasp for greed and the lack of compassion for the feral cats on the ground were the straw that broke the camel's back. I tried to share the issues in a private survey with the resort management, but instead was sent a generic email that failed to acknowledge nearly all of the issues I raised. So before you book, look these over and realize what you're in store for: 1. The constant attempts to "upsell" guests for premium services (food, spa, excursions, photos) cheapened the overall experience. 2. Signage in every restaurant recommends paying for better food, suggesting the caliber of food you offer guests is substandard. Adding Circle items to the menu only further alienates your guests. 3. The vendors selling the crafts were sometimes aggressive with guests to come to their kiosks 4. Our concierge saw us at check-in, once saw us by the front desk when our room bracelets were turned off (he didn't recognize us or stay to resolve the issue). Other than messages on Whatsapp booking dinner reservations, we never saw him again. 5. As Club Melia members, you have taken away our services and features, giving them to the Circle members. The Club Melia lounge is now becoming the Circle Black Lounge. The weekly Club Melia white party is gone. Gifts normally given to Club Melia members such as a free specialty dinner or massages is also gone. The message was "Pay us more to become Circle Members to get the Club Melia benefits you previously had" 6. Guests who had signed up for the Circle memberships were already regretting their decisions on their next visit. We met a couple who previously bought Circle Red. The room options and maintenance charges upset them. It was clear that staff members were not honest in how they sold them the membership 7. Care for the feral cats on the grounds is inhumane. The cats are not spade/neutered for their safety. Water is not available to them. Staff are told to refer to the cats as "Sophia" but when the cats first arrived in the resort in 2020 (we came in July 2020 right after you reopened post COVID at 4% capacity), we met the original Sophia and saw her again in 2022. Some of the cats this trip showed signs of injuries and neglect. 8. At the LaPerla Reserve Pool, the staff were the ones secretly reserving bali beds by placing towels on the beds (not those roped off to designate paid). I went down at 7am and watched the staff member managing the towel house do it. 9. The recent influx of corporate events made the place feel like a busy convention center, not a relaxing resort. We are going to your resort to get away from corporate logos and such. 10. Our room was in disrepair on arrival. The toilet needed to be fixed, the shower head was leaking and the shower drain was clogged. Why none of these were addressed prior to checking in showed a lack of proper inspection and maintenance 11. Safe keypad was entirely broken off the safe one evening after returning to our room. All the screws were missing 12. Reserve restaurants (La Palapa, Olio were the old names) no longer open for dinner. 13. Nobody contacted us prior to arriving at the hotel to make dinner reservations. We checked email spam folders....there was no attempts to communicate. 14. All-inclusive rates increased 40% from $110 USD in 2022 to $155 in 2025, but less quality food was being offered. We are not ones who drink alcohol so the all-inclusive charges make the stay less desirable. 15. Reserve pool is not heated, but your website says it is heated 16. One stall in the ladies bathroom by the reserve pool was locked and out of service for the entire stay 17. No more Club Melia designated Bali Beds 18. Loss of water in most of the resort on the morning of Wednesday, Feb 5th

Melia Playa del Carmen - great all-inclusive for families
Our stay at Melia Playa del Carmen exceeded expectations. This all-inclusive resort offers comfortable accommodations and a pleasant atmosphere throughout. Eduardo, our concierge, deserves special recognition. His attentive service and helpful assistance enhanced our experience. He was always ready to answer questions and address our needs. The resort's amenities, dining options, and overall service were consistently good.

Fantastic choice for family getaway
The hotel was excellent. The service was fantastic. The grounds were clean and well kept. The restaurants were all very different and offered excellent options for both kids and adults. The beach was beautiful. The sand was clean and the water was calm. It was a perfect little alcove for our young children. The pool was also very fun. There were lots of activities for the kids throughout the day they had adorable little gifts and in room games that the family concierge set up for us. Nestor was our concierge and he was fantastic. He was always available very accommodating and really wonderful with the kids.

Birthday in Mexico!
I stayed at this hotel, and honestly, I have no idea where it was my first time in Mexico! But let me tell you, the staff made it unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by Eleazar at the front desk, the sweetest young man. We chatted for a bit, and I mentioned that it was my birthday. I wasn’t expecting anything, but on my special day… bam! A bottle of sparkling wine and a cake arrived at my door! It was such a thoughtful surprise, and even though I was traveling alone, it made me feel truly special. Then there’s Nestor, what a guy! He was my concierge and an absolute ray of sunshine. Always happy, always funny, and always there when you need him. With people like him around, I felt completely at home. Very clean resort! The food was good and the best restaurant was the french one! Breakfast at Lunch box was so delicious, Erick was my waiter, he was so attentive! But honestly, what made this trip so incredible wasn’t the fancy amenities or the beautiful location, it was the amazing staff. Keep them, treasure them, because they are pure gold! I’ll definitely be back, and I hope to see all these wonderful people again when I return!
