    Great for families and group trip

    Overall, I’d rate this hotel a solid 7 out of 10. The grounds are well maintained, and there are plenty of activities offered throughout the day, which helps keep things engaging. Pros: The rooms are spacious and clean. I stayed in the master suite and really appreciated the extra space and comfort. Cons: The food was the biggest letdown, averaging about a 4 out of 10. The buffet, in particular, was disappointing at a 2 out of 10. The steakhouse (Sal) was better at a 7, while both the Peruvian restaurant and the hibachi came in around a 6. Service was also on the slower side, and while the staff wasn’t rude, some employees seemed low-energy and not especially warm or attentive.

    Beautiful resort, great rooms, average food and service

    Recently visited this resort with a family group of 9 (4 separate rooms) including 2 kids aged 6 and 2. We stayed in family concierge rooms, buildings 3 and 4. Wish we could have stayed in a swim up especially with the kids but they were fully booked. The rooms themselves are large and lovely. The AC as mentioned by others was not as cold as we wanted it in the main area. The bedroom was able to be set to 19 Celsius but main area only 21. The pull out couch mattress was quite lumpy - they brought up foam mattress toppers that made it much more comfortable, after we requested. The king size bed was very comfortable. Shower pressure was good. Bathroom amenities smelled great. The resort is beautiful. Lots of pools - main pool was busier and deeper. The swim outs at each building were quieter especially if you visited the outer ones. The only issue is there wasn't enough umbrellas for the lounge chairs at the swim outs. People definitely reserve cabanas at main pool by 8 am. The beach area also lovely, we had moderate sargassum one day we were there. Lots of palapas, the FC section had more comfortable looking chairs than the regular. Towels were often out at the towel cabanas but they do replenish them through the day. The entertainment was a big highlight! Lots of fun activities during the day. Entertainment team especially Juan are super high energy and very welcoming to everyone. We didn't use the kids club but there was a big inflatable obstacle course several days we were at the main pool. Nighttime entertainment was also quite good - variety of singing, dancing, themed music, karaoke nights. EXCEPT if you want to sleep before 11 pm and are staying in a room facing inwards... the music is LOUD. My son actually could not sleep on the weekend nights because of it (we didn't bring our white noise machine). Food was okay. The buffet was probably better than most all-inclusives we had been to. Lots of grilled meats available - we loved their churrasco/flank steak and had that almost everyday. Lots of veggie and fruit options, rice/pasta/breads. I will say the pizza my son was not a fan of. Restaurants - the best for us was Tori teppanyaki. The "show" part isn't the flashiest we've seen (no tricks really) but the food was fresh, seasoned well, cooked to perfection. The worst was Tori à la carte... the sashimi had a strange texture (probably from freezing), tempura batter was all wrong. Menu was a little limited. Second favorite was Sal. One of our group was given 3 very rare steaks even though medium rare was requested (and sent back twice!). The sides were delicious. Lemon Fish was a pleasant surprise. The ceviche was good, and they also had daily specials for cooked entrees which were very good. Aquamarina at the beach was also good, that was our first encounter with the steak churrasco so it made a great first impression! Mangu we only tried for the FC breakfast which was very disappointing. We waited a long time for just me and my son, even though the restaurant was not busy at all. While it was nice to have freshly prepared food, the presentation was a bit lackluster. We elected not to eat there at any other meals because of how slow the service was (we heard it was slow as well at lunch from other guests). The barbecue at the beach which served burgers, hot dogs and veggies - made the best burgers on the trip. Room service was horrible, the burger was undercooked, the bolognese pasta I'm not sure what meat was used but it was not what I expected. This was the late night menu as we arrived very late our first day, not sure if it is better during the day. The fries were great though and you could order them from any restaurant on the property (we have a very picky eater and fries are a safe food). The coffee bar at the main pool was still not serving ice cream when we were there but the equipment was getting set up. Coffee was great, the pastries so-so. The service overall at the resort was variable. Our concierge was Fransua and he was so lovely, went above and beyond for us. He arranged our dinner reservations every day and catered to our request for earlier times since we had the kids with us. He arranged for a cake and the staff to sing happy birthday to my parents as we were celebrating them this trip. He was very available by WhatsApp for any questions we had. Around the pool the service was definitely lacking. More often that not we had to actively look around for someone to take our drink orders, and they took a long time. It was disappointing to not be able to eat at the pools as well. Housekeeping was great, we had them coming everyday and restocking our snacks and minibar. We never did get any turndown service, though (supposed to be part of FC). A lot of staff were not as friendly as we have experienced in other resorts, not rude or anything but just did not feel as welcoming. But, again, Fransua, Juan, many of the valets, the reception were all lovely. We had a great relaxing vacation, not sure we would come back but due to multiple factors (travel time a big one as we had a 12+ hour travel day to get here).

    Worst resort experience

    So many issues with this resort from no wash clothes in the rooms, phones not working so no way to communicate with the front desk or place an order for room service. Food was terrible and room service was even worse, my caesar salad smelled and tasted like pool water. Filed a complaint but didn't resolve the issue as the manager Pilar thought it was "normal". Paid for the family concierge service but that is a scam as I only saw my butler, Leonardo once and my other families who also paid for this service never even met their butler or only until the day before we left. Getting reservations at the A La Carte restaurants was a struggle, they can't accommodate large groups. Would definitely not recommend Melia Group of hotels as we had a similar experience in Cancun. I highly would recommend Royalton or Hard Rock. Do not stay here...

    Perfect vacation

    Very clean and sleek hotel with a faint smell of flowers throughout. Pools were cleaned daily and the beach had very little seaweed and was removed every morning. Buffet was as expected but we are by no means foodies. It is an all inclusive but better than others we have visited. Our 5 year old loved the buffet and everyone in our group ate well. The steak house was sub par, hibachi night was great and the dinners in the main yard were our favorite! One night was bbq style with ribs and Mac and cheese and the other was Mexican. We decided to do family concierge to ensure we had earlier dinner reservations because we didn’t want to be eating at 8pm. We had seen mixed reviews about FC but we absolutely lucked out. Carolina was AMAZING and just so pleasant and attentive. She brought our daughter beach toys and a hat and towel one day as a surprise. Another day I needed rice to dry my phone and she insisted on going into kitchen and got me a bag. She reached out each morning to make our reservation and sent us the day itinerary. Our room was spacious and our balcony faced the entrance. Other people complained about this but there was no street noise and just as beautiful. Check in and check out were very smooth. Our only complaint as always is the people on the beach selling goods and braiding hair. It’s not terrible just more annoying that you have to send them away all day.

    Overall good

    This is my 4th year returning to Grand Cana. This year we brought 4 friends who stayed in a 2BR master suite. Our concierge Orlando along with Juan, made our experience overall very good. The dinner selections have much improved over the years. My only complaint was the room request and the cleanliness of my guests room was not satisfactory and the location was not as requested months prior. I feel as a member for so many years, I should have received preferential treatment. This is the sole reason I chose not to attend the sales meeting to upgrade to infinite black.
