Useless GHA titanium membership
We booked this hotel instead of other GHA hotels due to its ranking on TripAdvisor. As a Titanium member of GHA, we purposely stayed at their chains to experience its benefits. We stayed here for 3 nights, 2 under GHA booking and 1 under a third party booking agency, but all was in the same room category. We came early and was told to come back after the official check in time. I came around 4.30PM and was assisted by a friendly and kind staff. Unfortunately, there was no acknowledgement of my membership and basically I received no perks whatsoever. I have been really lucky enough to travel quite a bit. And when I travel, I never wanted to demand more due to my elite membership. I always view it as a bonus, but would really appreciate any perks the property would offer me. Thus, I did not say a thing during the check in and check out. The location is definitely central to everything, near the weekly's Hilton fireworks, near the beach, walkable to the malls and restaurants and yet just a block away from the busy Kalakaua Ave, a quieter option for sure. Our room was spacious and comfortably styled. The bed and linens were nice and fresh. The bathroom was good with basic amenities provided. Unfortunately, they only cleaned our room once during our 3 night stay despite choosing the option to clean our room daily. The room also had small balcony overlooking the pool. Although the room could become very noisy, the noise level subsided significantly after 9PM. The final straw of this was when I emailed the hotel 11 days after check out since there was no accrual of D dollars to my account. That was when I learned from their reply that there was no guarantee of me earning my rightful D dollars from my paid stay. In the end, I received my D dollars. I urged the viewers to stick to their Marriott and Accor premium membership to avoid disappointment.

Still great after all these years!
The location off the main drag of Kalakaua Ave, but still convenient to all of Waikiki is ideal. Quieter and in good company with the Halekulani, this hotel is ideal. Great staff, from the front desk, to the restaurants, to the lovely housekeeper on the 16th floor made us feel welcomed and appreciated every minute! This was my first time back to stay at “The Reef” in 57 years :)

Beware of extortionate resort charge!
Good hotel, nice room. BUT..... We were not advised of the resort tax before arrival. Upon check in we were presented with an extra and unexpected request for the resort charge at almost $65 per day. As we had booked a 14 day stay that was over $900 we had to pay on day one of our stay in Waikiki. I really can't see how this charge can be justified. RIP OFF!!

Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach is an excellent hotel!
Our overall experience was excellent! The location was very good, near Ala Moana Center, Hilton Hawaiian Village, and the International Marketplace. I liked being so near to Lewers Street, which offers so many restaurants. The rooms were spacious, clean, and up to date. The housekeeping staff (especially Nelia) was so helpful. The beach is close by and very enjoyable. I loved the local live music every night at the Kani Ka Pila Grill. What was also good was that the music cut off at 9:00PM. The activities were numerous and interesting. The staff was friendly and helpful. We are going to remember this hotel and stay there next time we return. Such a great hotel.
