Great Stay, Would Return!
We had a great stay and would definitely go back. The food was pretty good and they changed up the options in the buffet daily. Everything was fresh and tasty. Great Ice Cream and delicious Bread! The staff are truly amazing as well, especially Amina! The rooms could be a bit cleaner (Shower glass had some mildew, etc.) but it didn't bother us. The wildlife around the resort was great, Massive Igunas were fun to watch and we got lucky and got to see Howler Monkeys behind our room and around the pool. Amazing sunsets, and fun watching the surfers. The ocean was rough and we were scared to swim in it but the pool made up for it. 20 Min walk to downtown Tamarindo area or $6.00 taxi ride.

Beds in building 4 are comfy...that's it
Upon arrival we found that we had no towels. Called the front desk, no one picked up. Had to physically go to the fron desk, was handed a single towel and had to walk back with an employee who handed me my stack of towels and sent me on my way. Room was never cleaned. 3 separate phone calls to the front desk to no avail. 3 separate trips to the front desk to no avail. Had to literally beg for water bottles to be replenished. I was mocked by the front desk even though I was being very patient and kind. Food was sub par -very bland, impossible to get water at the table. Coffee machines were always in repair.

Watch the check in procedure, otherwise good.
Overall we were satisfied with our stay except we didn't end up in the ocean front room we had booked even after discussing with the reception manager. We spoke to two other people who had a similar experience. But we were very satisfied with the rest of the staff, the rooms and the common area. It's clean and very beautiful. Good access to a great beach area and the tour operators that were available for off site activities were knowledgeable and helpful. Food in the buffet is mediocre but the ala carte is very nice, especially the Japanese restaurant.

Great location for being on the ocean
The Occidental location was perfect with the beautiful beach facing west for incredible sunsets, the huge waves bringing in the surfers, it was entertaining to watch them at sunset I loved being close to the town of Tamarindo, only a mile away but kept the resort quiet and a nice walk on the beach going to town watching the boats, surfers, and listening to the waves. The rooms at the resort were big and very nice, always Great music by the pool and lobby bar, the food wasn’t the best but Great restaurants downtown, I’m not a foodie so isn’t a big factor for me, all in all I Loved being there
