    From cold to hot

Enjoyed the experience of Papagayo. Lots of up & down due to hills but shuttle service was great when needed. Enjoyed going from -30 to +30 temperatures but did take getting use to. Great tours offered to experience the country.

Short stay after tour of Costa Rica

The hotel is not 5 star, may of been 20 years ago. The reception staff are indifferent on arrival and we had more of a greeting from Larry on tours then the staff. The location and appearance on arrival are good. The buffet was also varied enough for us. The waiting staff work hard but always seem short staffed. You have to wait about 35mins for a table in the evening. This is ok if you know to give your room number ahead of time. The bar area is nice and cool but needs to have swing doors. The bedrooms are tired and this let's down the rest of the resort. They are kept clean by the over worked maids. The patio furniture is so old and creaky. We used the spa and had great massages. Be prepared for it being mostly loud in the small pool with Americans drinking all day in it. The large pool is better but only a few umbrellas. The beach area is quieter and seems to be the Canadian area. Lots of birds to see and monkeys. Overall we enjoyed the short break but needs to update the rooms if it wants to be 5 star.

Not for people that want to enjoy some entertainment great for R&R super boring property

This was a birthday trip for my wife and immediately it turned into a battle with the manager at the front desk because we Didn’t have the exact card we booked the trip with because that Card was compromised 2 weeks prior to our arrival so we couldn’t check in right away because they Wanted to charge us the total amount of the stay on another card and reimburse us the $900+ we already paid and that would take up to 15 business days to get back also we arrived around 5:40pm and asked if we could get a bite to eat cause we were starving after a 14 hour trip and we were told that dinner don’t start until 6:30pm but they failed to tell us that the snack shack was open until 6pm. We went with another couple and at first they put us in bldg 2 and the other couple in bldg 15 which is on the other side of the property. We paid $35 more dollars per day for the premium lounge so we could drink decent liquor but they only had premium bottles at the premier lounge and at no other bar which made no sense. The entertainment was elevator music in the lobby in the form of a violinist playing for hours the disco was dead every night pools shut down at 6pm and we had almost a 30min wait for meals in the Buffett (unheard of) the property is beautiful but that’s where it ends I paid up for a romantic package as it was my wife’s birthday and all we got was chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of champagne we were supposed to get turn down service but we never got it they would send house keeping over at weird hours of the night to re-clean the room not sure they understood what a turn down service was. We had more fun on excursions outside the resort Brian from fox tours was amazing la Leona waterfall was great but this resort was a total bore stay somewhere else unless you’re looking for a super R&R resort! Hope this helps good luck

    Great time, no complaints

Spacious clean rooms with great balconies and amazing views. Lots to do. Very good food. Had delicious steak 3 times during the week. Staff were lovely. So nice. Beautiful grounds around the hotel and a beautiful clean beach. Saw lots of tropical birds, monkeys and whales.
