Big Hilton big price
Average service large hotel with good location. Nothing special to this dated hotel other than their updated prices!!! $47 for a standard breakfast buffet, $25 cocktails, and the hotel charges $35 a night for amenity fee. Assigned a connecting room and could hear everything my neighbors did and said especially at 2am when trying to sleep. Elevators are a long wait. Lots of floors to cover. Front desk agents are apparently told not to smile to their patrons. I was disappointed altogether because I value good service and did not see evidence of any here. Just average

Great family base in Midtown
We have just returned from a stay in NYC where the Hilton Midtown was our base. We will as always leave an honest review of our experience and time spent in this hotel. Initial impressions were as expected with the wow factor with the size of the lobby and speed of which we were checked in and provided our rooms. We had booked a family room with a king bed and a sofa bed so on arrival at the room the sofa bed was not set up as you would expect. So after a long travel day that included 2 flights to get there we set about making the bed only to find no linen or blankets for the bed anywhere in the room. Calling to front desk they advised if we wanted to make it ourselves they could send up stuff or we would have to wait for housekeeping to do it. Our son was flat out by this time so we asked for stuff and we would make it. Just not what you would expect from a Hilton or any hotel really. That was the only negative part about our stay and the hotel certainly redeemed themselves later in our stay when we had a card left advising we had missed a delivery. Having called to the herb and kitchen as advised within 5 mins a birthday hamper arrived for me including a cake frozen strawberries along with a card and a bag of American chocolate bars. I was very impressed with that. I had mentioned in passing email exchange before heading out it was my birthday however I didn't expect that. It was a very nice touch indeed so thank you so much for that. Overall the room was a lovely size we had a fridge ( it was very cold and turned our water and pop to ice ) safe plenty of storage a lovely bathroom with powerful shower and a gorgeous view or the city ( not times square for us but lovely anyway) Staff were amazing on every interaction from the front desk to housekeeping and bar and herb and kitchen store. There will be a holding deposit per night so prepare for that ( this was held on credit card and refunded on check out ) There is also a daily 35 dollar per room tax that is charged per night here however a nice touch from Hilton is they allow you to spend this in house on food and drink so do take advantage of this as you will be paying it anyway so may as well have something back for it. I went to the herb and kitchen shop each morning and got a couple of coffees and pastries for the room and all in theory for free. If you did over spend your daily amount to was just charged to your room to pay on check out so no need to carry cash or card around the hoteI. Staff here were great always chatty and smiling and the lady with the headscarf was lovely and always interacted with our family and seemed to remember our orders which was impressive with 8k people in the hotel. They could do with a few more seating areas around the hotel for people to use as these did seem sparse and I was a little disappointed to find a 5 dollar per item charge to hold your luggage on check out day I think for the price of the hotel that should be free. Overall we loved our stay here and would definitely look to stay here again. Thank you again

Excellent service
I just wanted to take this time to let you know that I had a great experience with customer service. The person that helped me was named Mei. She recommended that I register for the bonus points on my Hilton honors account. Which I got. Thanks! She also allowed me to stay a little bit longer because of a business meeting that I had that was right around checkout time.

Plain vanilla with no toppings
A good stay, but nothing special. Nothing really wowed me, but this isn’t what this property is for. This is Hilton corporate’s best example of what a mega large hotel (the largest in NYC) can run like, presumably within margins and all that, and considering I’d say it’s a pretty good showcase. As a guest, idk feels like I metaphorically stayed in some B tier vanilla ice cream, no toppings, no sprinkles. Maybe that’s how Hilton wants it. Stayed here via a Grand Vacations promotion. TLDR with that is that I had a scheduled Monday 9am sales pitch, went to the 44th floor, where the Residences are, then found the dinky little (literally half the size of the normal ones) elevator to the 45th floor down the hallway, checked in, was unimpressed by their snack area (giving Comfort Inn), and then was led to someone who was apparently overbooked, as our conversation lasted twenty minutes. They do try to sell you on a package 1/10th of the cost but the second guy I spoke to was blunt. I did not get a package. The actual hotel is a default Hilton for better and worse. The room is pretty spacious, with a loveseat area, big couch, and the standard Hilton ubiquitous lamps / no overhead light, plus the connected desk / media area / cabinet. TV uses an ancient infotainment system that is kinda kitsch in how crusty it is. Expensive movies on offer, otherwise the usual. This hotel offers mini fridges in the rooms! That’s also where the safe is. Closet is behind the sliding mirror doors. Bathroom was basic. Shower with the of this era Hilton standard textured floor and “It’s A Snap” shower curtain that does a terrible job at being a shower curtain - floor was sopping wet both times despite having the floor towel out (that also got sopping wet). Other than that, has the again Hilton standard Crabtree toiletries, which are fine. Not a lot of shelf space but enough for my two toiletry bags. Elevators suck, but they know that, and considering there are 45 floors it’s a tough challenge. But, I am curious how despite bucketing elevators so that certain ones go to certain floors, the wait can be as long as several minutes, and always packed. I highly recommend staying at the highest floor you possibly can in your room type, because lower floors tend to suffer from packed elevators. The 19th floor is the highest for base rooms and is in the middle of the second bucket of floors, for what that’s worth. What didn’t help the situation was, and I’m sorry to say this, the Model UN conference I didn’t realize was happening during my stay. Masses of college kids were distributed on seemingly all the floors, getting understandably rowdy in the evenings and in the elevators. I had to turn white noise on to sleep on a Sunday night. Obviously Hilton isn’t gonna not take the money of prob hundreds of rooms but a warning could have been nice. I guess the Model UN per diem doesn’t include the breakfast buffet because they were not there. Herb N’ Kitchen is a corporate Hilton concept and honestly the buffet side seems as generic as ever. Pretty much the same menu as the other Hilton I stayed in in San Fran, albeit with different prepackaged yogurt (no Greek, just French style from a local brand. Also drinkable yogurt from a local dairy). Plus pre packaged pressed juice, and gluten free treats. Hot food and an omelette station too obviously but standard breakfast fixings outside of the potstickers and congee for Asian guests, presumably. Potatoes were good. Service was polite. I liked one of the three options of pressed juices. The matcha lime French yogurt was ok. I’m not sure what the final cost was for breakfast after credits ($35 per day per room for F&B plus $18 per day per person Hilton Honors credit), but the list price for breakfast was $48 for the full buffet, $35 for the continental. With tax and tip the full breakfast which I had both days was $55. Expensive obviously unless you use credits to make up the difference. Gym is pretty big, with nice views. Three Peloton bikes. One dinky water fountain in the corner. Used a Digital Key for the first time despite the app logging me out twice / it not recognizing the door sometimes. The room key looks ugly so I didn’t bother getting one tho I usually collect them. That’s prob how Hilton wants you to think - less money to spend on plastic key cards. Considering noon checkout (which is later than I would assume) and the fact I got my room about 1:30 pm versus 3pm, and the loveseat in the base room, this could be a good value. It’s a good enough stay, in a good enough room, with good enough food, for likely a good enough price. Location is great to be right next to MoMA, Radio City Music Hall, and the like. You can see both from the corner of the hotel. There’s a reason why it was built here.
