Wonderful week at Matachica Resort in Belize

We stayed in one of Matachica's beach front villas with other adult family members. The villa was very nice and spacious and the beds were comfortable (except for the rollaway bed). The location right on the beach was amazing and having a private pool to share with only one other villa was great. The resort is really beautiful, staff is friendly/helpful and food was great too. The spa treatments were also fantastic. We had a few issues with the kitchen getting our orders right at breakfast and our bill had to be corrected at the end of our stay. Also, this is disclosed on their website, but the seaweed on the beach can be really bad at times, although they do their best to clean it up daily and it didn't really deter us from kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. Also, it was wonderful to be able to do snorkeling and other tours on Matachica's boats right off the resort pier. Very convenient compared to going into San Pedro by golf cart to meet a tour. Keep in mind that the road to/from San Pedro is very bumpy and slow.

The perfect getaway.

Beautiful and relaxing hotel on the beach. The food is amazing with super fresh ingredients grown in the garden of their sister hotel, Gaia. All pastries and breads are made in house and change daily. The service was the most attentive, friendly and personal. I cannot wait to return soon.

Relaxation retreat

The staff were extremely helpful both prior to and during the stay. Everything was clean and well maintained. Only issue was the seaweed but the resort was shuttling people to the opposite side of the island to get away from it. I would highly recommend for those looking to relax. There are adventures to be had but this is not a party resort. Which I very much appreciated.

Caribbean Jewel

It is not easy striking the balance of elegance and understated while caring for all needs and not being over-the-top. Matachica has done this better than we could have imagined. It is a first class place. Everyday we enjoyed delicious food and drink, endless places to calmly enjoy the water and docks without wondering if we could find a free lounge chair, and snorkeling, kayaking, spa, and biking activities catered for our interests. The staff to a person were exceptionally kind and helpful.

Matachica Resort and Spa - the beachfront vacation we needed!

We enjoyed a fantastic seven day stay at Matachica Resort and Spa - the beachfront location, crystal clear water, natural beauty of the Ambergris Caye island, and excellent customer focused staff are all exactly what we were looking for! We had five of us in one of their amazing 2 bdr/2ba oceanfront villas, complete with a party ready / lighted rooftop. A nice touch, for example, is the boat pick-up from the San Pedro airport to travel the five miles to the resort. Of all the relaxing and fun things they make available, we really recommend the excursions available through Matachica. I especially liked the snorkeling day trip to Hol Chan Marine and Shark Alley - amazing abundance of things to see on the coral reef, and two stops which included feeding huge Tarpin fish and watching Manatees . Our amazing guide, Job, not only captained the 28 foot boat all around the island, but led our snorkeling group in the water, pointing out barracuda, rays, and sleeping sharks. He really made the day memorable with his knowledge and skill. Highly recommend Matachica Resort and Spa, and we credit the very personable and attentive GM, Jorge Cante, for setting the tone and standards there!
