A nice revisit at a solid Brickell Key property

Second time here at the MO and another nice stay that with some upgrades will be elevated. Rooms are extremely spacious and have excellent views of Brickell. Bathrooms follow suit. Beds are plush of course. The common area hallways though could use a bit of freshening up. They're of course sparkling clean but the design is becoming a bit dated. The "beach" concept is strong in theory but in practice could be so much better. They need a dedicated person over there to look after everything instead of relying on folks from the main pool. Also there was no music playing, even at a low volume. There were speakers everywhere on the tree so it certainly can be done. The vibe could be amazing but right now it's a bit lacking. The location is still one of the best in Miami. Right in the action and a quick drive to Coconut Grove, Miami Beach and Brickell proper (that can be walked), but in its own world on Brickell Key which is a joy to jog around during the day. Service is tops across the board. Everyone from the front desk, the valet, the room service folks, the pool staff, all wonderful. I still think this is a great property and a fine stay in Miami with excellent service that is right on for MO. I personally can't wait though for the new building that is being planned on this site which should see a transformed and new MO experience. Very excited.

    Just Lovely...

After becoming sick of Seattle’s dreary spring weather and having a first-class domestic flight travel voucher to burn, the Mrs. and I thought what made perfect sense was to use that voucher on the longest domestic flight to the warmest place we could come up with. From Seattle, that would be Florida, and so a trip was planned. We agreed it would be a “shared” vacation, with half being her preferences of staying very close to water and a facility from which to launch her kayak, and for me a stay at a major city downtown five-star hotel. That worked out to be Miami and the Florida Keys, naturally, and after a bit of research, we settled on the Mandarin Oriental as offering the best value for the downtown five star hotel part. Wise choice. Our stay at the Mandarin Oriental was fantastic, with all the accouterments one would expect at a five-star hotel. When we arrived, we were greeted by a staff of pleasant, polite, and professional valet parking staff and bellmen, who remembered our name and vehicle (an unexceptional rental beast) for the balance of our four-day stay. At check in we were greeted warmly, with all questions anticipated and answered. The bellman who delivered our baggage to our room was friendly and helpful, and the room itself was lovely. Not the nicest I’d ever been in, but certainly worthy of a luxury property. Indeed, the entire stay was luxurious, with every need being anticipated and satisfied with a smile and our name (I love that, the way they remember your name at five-star hotels…my wife will tell you I LOVE being “Mr. GoGoBear”). That is what you pay for at a property such as this, and while yeah, we paid…it was worth it. I gave a four-circle rating because the room furnishings were a bit worn, and a few other things in the bathroom reflected the age of the property, but really, it was more than fine…. just not perfect. Thank you, Mandarin Oriental, for a wonderful stay. Here is hoping we have occasion to stay with you again…

Recommendation to discover Downtown Miami from luxury homebase

Great experience close to Downtown Miami. Luxury Flair from the beginning. Staff was always friendly and courteous. Bay view room was a good decision und had plants of space. Pool is small, but good to relax and cool down. Realize that there is no beach access.
