Great week at Majestic Elegance!
Just returned from a relaxing week at Majestic Elegance and thought I'd share a few thoughts... I booked an Elegance (adults 18+) plunge pool suite through Hotels.com (Expedia) to take advantage of some redemption nights that I'd built up over the past few years to save a bit off the top. At check in we were brought to the VIP/Elegance check in and had to wait only a few minutes for an available clerk to be available. one person checking in was not very happy about being put into a room type he'd apparently not booked. His conversation, which was loud enough for the whole area to hear, was basically arguing with someone on the phone about trying to get extras or credits in exchange. He was there before we got there and was still there long after. Our check in was smooth and seamless. We were confirmed for the plunge pool suite I'd booked. After reading about a fair number of folks being offered or taken next door to the new Mirage, I had a bit of trepidation, but that was quickly dashed. I wish we'd been offered a welcome drink, but we were shown the nearby self-serve bar where we helped ourselves to a couple of mimosas while we waited for our butler, Melissa, to arrive and show us to our suite. As has been said countless times, it's the staff that makes Majestic Elegance stand out. Melissa, our butler, was very communicative, informative, and super helpful all week. Sylvia and Daniella on the entertainment team were awesome. At the various restaurants, Pierre, Alfredo, Rosmeri, Guadalupe, Mateo, Jimmy, Carmen, Daniel, and Angel all stood out as offering memorable service with a smile. Erik at the Lobby bar is an artist with the drinks and Jhonathan at the 18+ beach bar/club offered fantastic service. These were but a few of the folks who made it a great week. All of the restaurants were quite good, with the food on the better side out of the many AI's we've stayed at in Mexico. We never had to wait to get into any of the restaurants that didn't require reservations even though the resort was reportedly only about 60% full. The only remotely negative experience we had, and it's being very nitpicky, was at Asadito, the steakhouse. We arrived for our reservation at 7 pm and I think we were out the door by 7:40 pm. Our waiter made us feel quite rushed and while we appreciate quick service, we're on vacation and also want to relax, have a couple drinks, enjoy the ambiance, and put a few minutes between courses...not have them brought all within seconds of each other. Nevertheless, the food was good though. Tip...Asadito and Bistro can be quite cool with the AC turned up, so you may want to consider bringing a sweater if you get chilly. The Mar lunch buffet was awesome and we found it more to our liking for lunch. Some restaurants aren't open on certain nights, so plan wisely. We did see the dress code enforced at a couple of the restaurants. The nightly entertainment was great, with the Queen and Michael Jackson shows, along with the Mexican wrestling, being the most fun. The fire show was exceptionally entertaining and perhaps the best fire show we've seen out of several so far at the various AI's. They have an open "square" area next to the theatre that hosts Mexican night and the "White Party". It's lovely, but it's open air and got a bit chilly with the evening wind. Just plan for it and it's great. The beach area is awesome, with no shortage of chairs and palapas to sit under...or day beds to relax on if that's your thing. It was a very bad sargassum week when we were there, but they had a tractor going back and forth all day to try and keep up. As is already noted, the pools, including the suite's plunge pool, aren't heated like some would expect, but given the temperatures/heat, they were very refreshing and it only took a minute or two to get acclimatized. The swim up bars and beach bar got you whatever you wanted. If you want top shelf liquor, just ask for it. The lobby bar offers bougie fancy drinks that you'll find on your "app" after you check in. We sampled and enjoyed many of them. Almost better than the drinks themselves is watching them make them. There were maybe five or six weddings last week and all of the groups looked well taken care of and had a lot of fun. The wedding set ups looks pretty nice, especially the one on the sand between the beach and the resort where they set it all up on the sand...including a lighted dance floor. All in all it was a great vacation and I'd definitely consider going back.
