Very Nice Resort
We had a nice 2 night stay at the Kona Kai. We stayed in a junior suite which was very comfortable. The beds and bedding were wonderful. We had booked and paid for a Marina View and we were put in a Bay View. They did credit us $100 on the bill when I brought it to their attention but I personally would have preferred the better view as the bay view is looking over the parking lot towards the bay and a bit noisy with all the activity going on across the street. The only complaint I have about the room is the walls are very thin. We could hear the conversations of the guests on both side of us and we were very lucky that they settled down at a decent hour otherwise it would have been frustrating. Our friends who were staying in a room in building two said they got no sleep because kids were screaming and crying all night, so I think the walls must be thin throughout the whole resort. The staff was very friendly and helpful during our stay. They had coffee in the lobby in the morning but a heads up, it's only out until 7 am. I wish they had more food choices at the hotel but the restaurant there had good food and good service. We enjoyed the fire pits in the evening, the staff was very kind and respectful when it came time to shut them down at 10pm. We will definitely return to Kona Kai on our next trip to the area. Beautiful grounds, nice rooms and a very pleasant staff. Thank you for a wonderful trip.

Kona Kai - Point Loma
A hidden gem in San Diego. Minutes from all the best San Diego has offer and so much more.. It's nice to not want to leave property and you may not want to, but its even nicer when it so easy access so much so close and so easily. The marina and bay views are great, Shelter island is wonderful a sanctuary in San Diego. With water on both sides of the property at the end of the penninsula. The Adult Only pool and hot tub separates this from most hotels in San Diego, flip up the flag on your chaise lounge to alert the your host, "cocktails please". With in 5 minutes of the hotel there are so many restaurants: Umi sushi founded in the 1980's , Fiddlers Green an original San Diego sailing themed steak and seafood, Miguel's Mexican, The Ketch, Mitches Seafood for Fish tacos and local fish, Point Loma seafood market, As well as Pizza nova and Famous Jimmy's all along a ocean front boardwalk with easy parking. You can walk or bike to all of these places as well. Need a beer and some fresh air , walk a few steps from the Kona Lai down to the pier for a San Diego Craft Beer and some food at Fathom Bistro. Not to mention the Smoothies and açaí bowls at Point Loma Surf Shack and coffee at Port Side Coofe and Gelato, better buzz in point loma.

Fabulous
Enrique the bell man went above and beyond to make sure my bags were safe! The Resort itself is absolutely stunning. Quiet little nook of San Diego I will definitely be returning as soon as I can. Thank you!

Never AGAIN..
Just left the place this morning after a 2 night stay. First night was lovely. Last night was a JOKE. NO one advised the guests there would be a wedding partner which would restrict access to the private beach they promise in their advertising. My family and i made specific plans for Saturday night at the beach with a bonfire and was turned away. On TOP of that the horrific band could be heard half the night and once that was shut down. We were lucky enough to be woke up again by drunk cackling women screaming and laughing down our hallway for hours. Needless to say we had to be up and out of the hotel roughly 2 hours after the women finally shut up! I have messaged the hotel THREE TIMES this morning EXPECTING some kind of money taken off for my last night because i feel it is deserved and a fair request but of course NO RESPONSE from management is a response isnt it. Drove 8 hours to enjoy myself and wasnt given the ability to choose a different place had i been informed properly about restricted access because of a wedding. Then to find out other people were comped an additional night for their trouble!!!! I want my horrible night REFUNDED but i was offered nothing but silence for me and my family. 😡😡😡

Nice stay amidst little inconveniences.
The resort is truly beautiful! Rooms are clean and the staff were very friendly. I did however, have some issues; at check in they told us that there was a $100 parking fee per day! What? That’s a hefty add on that was not originally disclosed in booking. Second, my husband and I were pretty hungry when we arrived so we went to the hotel restaurant, Vessel, to grab a bite and drinks. We were the only ones sitting at the bar, but apparently we were invisible by the bartender. Super annoying because all the other employees of this place were so friendly. And my husband who only drinks Coors Light beer, was told no Coors Light but they have Bud Light. Well, that’s a joke so he had to drink IPAs instead. I paid extra to upgrade our room and was given a Bay view room. Sounds nice enough but your view is actually the parking lot. Having a marina view (opposite side of hotel) would have been so much nicer. Adult pool was a nice touch, but the bar was not open. If you wanted a drink you had to walk to the “Family pool” and use their bar. That makes sense doesn’t it? Food was average at the restaurant. Nothing great. Overall, my husband and I had a very nice time, considering the little inconveniences. It’s a beautiful property and all but one employee was fantastic. We walked the island one day and had lunch at a neighboring hotel and then a different hotel for afternoon drinks (they served Coors Light thankfully). I loved how all the restaurants/bars face the marina. Such pretty views!!!
