A Reasonable Option for San Diego

Overall, a positive experience. the room was clean and comfortable. Due to a credit card membership program I was given a complimentary upgrade to a junior suite which was nice. The desk clerk touted it as a "bay view" room, but because it was on the ground floor you could not see the bay at all. Only the parking lot. Had it been on the second floor I would have enjoyed a lovely view of the bay, on the other side of the boulevard and the parking lot. The restaurant had food that was properly prepared, if not especially imaginative, at prices that I found too high for the quantity and quality, however not significantly worse than at other high end properties. The staff was friendly and helpful. Though it might not be my first choice, I'd happily stay here again under the right circumstances.

    Wouldn't come back

Cons: Poor room lighting, no water containment in bathroom means flooded bathrooms, slow service across the board, expensive parking. Pros: Good amenities, nice location

    My daughter's best birthday ever!!

We went yesterday April 11th and checked out today April 12th for my daughter's 13th birthday party. All my family and her friends had the best time. From the Jacuzzi to the pool to the fire pits for an amazing bonfire with s'mores. The rooms were so fresh and clean and beautifully decorated. Location of the hotel is right next to the beach which was a plus. The front desk agents and the bellman that were working yesterday were all so extremely nice and helpful. Everyone had great customer service. I would definitely stay here again!!

    Thank You Kona Kai!

I had a great stay at Kona Kai Resort. Rudy at the front desk was very welcoming, and the rest of the staff was friendly and helpful too. The location was perfect and had such a relaxing atmosphere. My room was very spacious, which made the stay even more comfortable. The pool and jacuzzi were clean and a great size, and the gym was well equipped with plenty of workout equipment. I would definitely stay here again and look forward to coming back in the future!

    Amazed. Surpassed expectations

What a great experience! We travel a lot with the chase sapphire reserve “edit” hotels and this has been the best one in California for our family. Trust me, the chill hotel by the beach is a way better option than the downtown noise and grind. Specially for a family with small kids. The room with the marina views was lovely, the fire pit with smores was the star of the show and the food was fantastic. But above all, service was stellar! Everyone from the housekeeping team, front desk and restaurant made us feel special and were always trying to be helpful. Thanks again to the man at the front desk with the tattooed arm who helped us and tried to accommodate every request! We will be back with our whole family soon!
