    Loved it!

The staff are so friendly and helpful! The service was pretty prompt at the restaurants and the grounds are very clean and well-kept. The pool is amazing and the view of the beach is beautiful, especially after sunset. We booked excursions through the hotel tour desk and everything was great! We definitely want to return!!

Great Property For Couple on Anniversary

We stayed at the JW Marriott Guanacaste for our 40th wedding anniversary. The entire visit was spectacular! Front desk staff was outstanding and attentive. Every employee we had contact with was extremely accommodating and polite. I took the water aerobics class with Eli, and the bike tour. We enjoyed the coffee class, and the cooking class. We had an ocean front room near the beach and was certainly worth the upgrade. When we checked into our room, there was heart shaped balloons, and a tray of beautifully decorated chocolate covered strawberries. Also at dinner, at the Pimento, the dessert chef came out and presented us with more chocolate decorated strawberries, along with the supervisor and server to wish us a happy anniversary. Finally, one of the highlights was at breakfast. I was told to ask for a coffee served "Costa Rican Style." When I asked for this, Manfred prepared this special coffee in front of us while I filmed it. It was quite the production, and the coffee tasted even better. When he finished, he said he prepared it with love. so very special.

    A Great Stay!

Our family of four has just returned from 6 nights at this beautiful property. We booked a standard double room, using Bonvoy points. Prior to arrival, this Titanium member was upgraded to a deluxe ocean view room. I had applied my Suite Award upgrades to the reservation, but unfortunately, the upgrade failed to clear. However, upon check in, they found us a suite for the first few nights of our stay! The suite was awesome. So much space! Wife and I took the king, and the kids happily slept on a pull out and roll-away. This suite also had its own plunge pool, which we made good use of. The main bathroom was one of the largest I’ve had anywhere. Wet room with a wonderful shower, and oversized tub, toilet in a separate room, two sinks and everything decorated in marble. The suite also had a half-bath on the living room side, which made it convenient for our girls to use during the night. Service was excellent…Lydia at the breakfast restaurant was so friendly and engaging. She knew all our names and room number after the first day…Which, if you saw our beautiful 8- and 10-year-old girls, you wouldn’t forget them easily, either! But everywhere else, from restaurant staff, to the concierge, front desk, pool servers, and housekeeping— everyone was so kind, and provided that “Pura Vida” experience. Including room service, we dined at every restaurant on property (except Azul, a poolside lunch place)… food was great! And considering how far away it is from anything (captive audience), it was pretty reasonably priced, I thought. The steakhouse was the most expensive, of course…but everywhere else, entrées could be had for US$20 and up. Kids menu items were around US$12-$15. With one alcoholic drink for the adults, the occasional appetizer, entrées and a dessert or two, we probably averaged US$120/night for 4. Food quality was exceptional, and my wife has a severe gluten allergy (diagnosed with Celiac disease), they were very accommodating, and went out of their way to make sure that her food was not only safe, but delicious as well. For dinner, our favorites were the steakhouse and the Italian restaurant. Pool was great—the pics you see online, it’s all one interconnected pool…Kept at a perfectly warm-ish temp, but still refreshing. Two hot tubs, both were nice and warm but not scaldingly hot. No issues with getting chairs. Lots of toys and floaties provided by the hotel. Wait staff was always available to bring drinks, which were moderately priced—US$4-6 for frozen non-alcoholic drinks (like virgin daiquiris), beers in the US$7 range and alcoholic tropical libations in the US$12-$18 range. Beach was disappointing…A bit rocky and not a lot of sand to play in for the kids. You have to walk a decent amount to get to the swim able area, which itself was underwhelming, maybe 100 yards/meters across and a few hundred yards/meters outward. The beach was about the only downside…But our littles still loved it—nice having easy to please kids! Awesome wildlife on property! See my pics, all from the JW: Monkeys in the trees, iguanas everywhere, geckos, birds, crabs and more. The only downside, my little one was terrified of the giant grasshoppers, as big as 8 inches (20 cm)…The locals call them ‘Langostas’, literally, lobsters (my final pic, those are my full-sized sunglasses behind it, for scale, luckily, that sucker was dead, lying by the pool). While this was our first trip to Costa Rica, we hope it’s not our last, and I don’t think I will look anywhere else to stay!

    Beautiful Beach Resort

My wife and I visited for our honeymoon and were incredibly pleased. It was an absolutely beautiful place complete with direct access to a great beach and several wonderful restaurants. The staff, especially Alfredo, were delightful. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

    Terrible experience

Terrible experience. Resort and rooms are rundown. Resort is very isolated and if you do not have a rental car you are essentially trapped there as it is difficult to get any transportation to and from resort. There is a shuttle to Tamarindo but limited times and expense. You have to preschedule taxis and the prices were outrageous. Would not stay there again.
