Disappointing!
We were disappointed by the hotel, the food, and the beach. The room was okay, but lacked adequate outlets and had a very musty smell. We requested a king-size bed on the first floor and we were originally given a second floor room with 2 queen beds. They were able to move us to the first floor, but had no rooms with king beds. The food was mediocre with the same choices every day - very little variety. I contracted food poisoning on the 4th day and talked to others at the resort who had the same experience after eating from the salad bar. At check-in, we were told that we needed to meet with someone to discuss our stay and upcoming changes to the property. They invited us to a breakfast the following morning and offered extra perks. When we arrived at the "breakfast" we realized that before breakfast we were expected to sit through a sales pitch to purchase a time-share. During our entire 8-day stay, the seaweed was so thick that we were unable to swim in the ocean. The hotel has no control over nature, but it was still disappointing to not be able to go in the water at the beach.

Not a 5 hotel
This is not a 5 star resort Rooms smell of damp beds are damp and rooms are dark so you need the light on all the time The only way to get a decent room is to pay for one that’s been refurbished and has no damp The food is average and not worthy of its 5 star rating However the staff are all lovely and work hard in this tired dated hotel Love Holidays needs to review this hotel Will not return or recommend

Wish I was still there
First I will start with the negatives. The main reason I picked this resort was because it looked like there would be lots of spider and howler monkeys. I was heartbroken to find the howler monkeys in cages on the roofs as they are being moved somewhere else, so while you could hear them sometimes, you could not see them. We did see a couple of spider monkeys the first day, one very close up, so thank goodness for that or I would have been very upset as we never saw any after that. So if you are coming for monkeys, you might be disappointed. My partner did get sick from something he ate one night, fortunately he was ok by the next day. Please if you are coming with children teach them how to use the buffet, I can’t count the number of times I saw kids pick up food with their fingers and then change their minds and put it back. No wonder people get sick. Gross. While I appreciate trying to conserve energy by having the lights turn off automatically when you leave the room, if someone leaves while the other person is in the bathroom, the one in the bathroom is left in the pitch dark. A bit of a problem. I was a bit worried that with the upcoming renovation they would not care anymore, but that was not the case at all. The hotel and room were better than I expected, beach was wonderful, pool was great, food was great, always lots of choice at the buffet, all the staff was very friendly and always smiled, it never felt like they were being fake. They were cleaning all the time, everything was always very clean including the beach/pool washrooms. All the animals were wonderful and a joy to see. Bed was huge and comfy. Room fridge always stocked and room cleaned everyday. This was one of our favourites trips, we loved it, did not want to leave, could have happily stayed another week. We would definitely return to this hotel.

Great resort!
We stayed here for one week in February 2026, 2 adults and 3 teens (17-19). Overall fantastic resort. Rooms: we were in block 26 (just past the lobby/restaurants/theater). Rooms and bathrooms are spacious, beds comfortable, good a/c). Was very quiet. Nice short walk thru jungle path to pool/beach. Decor was dated but the resort is about to do a full reno so I imagine it will be updated. Pool: very large, never felt crowded. Did not use floaties (like many recommended) but others did. Lots of loungers, about 1/2 with shade. There is also a smaller pool that seems to be full shade all day long. Beach: lovely beach. All chairs have shade. Need to be down by 7 am or shortly thereafter if you want loungers in row closest to water. No issue with sargasium. They clean it up regularly. Peddlers (tours, souvenirs, etc) were not pushy. Sandy bottom in ocean. Was windy 2 days we were there, waves were fun but be careful of riptide. The other days it was more relaxing. They do watch for people claiming loungers and then abandoning it. Thet will remove belongings from loungers if it is abandoned for hours, which we appreciated. Restaurants: 5 a la carte restaurants but reservations only required at 2. We ate at all except the mexican one (it was closed the day we planned to go). Food was good at all of them. The Japanese one was the most fun/memorable as they put on a show cooking in front of you. The "steakhouse" is actually more Texas bbq, served family style. Buffets: 3 buffets. The one by the pool/beach is only open at lunch. There is also a snack bar next to it. Buffet food also very good with lots of variety. We never had to wait long anywhere (buffets, restaurants, bars, etc). Staff were very friendly. Loved the jungle setting and all the animals. We did not need bug spray (recommended by others). Highly recommend.
