Do your research people - 5 stars is about 3 to many

Traveled with family to celebrate a birthday. While we made the best of it, I would never recommend or return to this resort, I have traveled quite a bit, and this was not my first trip to the DR. Such a disappointment especially for the amount paid. Check In - 5/5 Upon arrival, the front desk staff was accommodating and speedy. Keys provided and we never had an issue using them. Concierge - ?? Not sure how to score them. Pleasant, helped make dinner reservations (see below on how that turned out) and excursion options. 5/5 for that. Then came the SELL job where they offer free breakfast (HEY DID YOU FORGET IT IS ALL INCLUSIVE) so you will listen to what time share they can sell you. Say you're single so you can sign without your spouse. Also, they get $$ for you attending. They will wear you out if you sign up and decide not to go. Knock on door and ring phone. I am on vacation. Spent all my money getting here. No thanks! 1/5 Room - 1/5 Rooms are outdated by at least 10+ years. We booked 2 Queen beds. For some ODD reason they moved a table with chairs against a wall, that now could not be used and put in a 3rd queen bed. Ok, so we all get our own bed. But wait, as soon as the 3rd bed was sat on the leg fell off. It's the first night there. Managed to put leg back on in order to sleep. Called the next morning. Assured me it would be fixed, Nope! Came back to room to find only 1 bed made, towels nor wash cloths replaced. Sat on the bed and low and behold leg fell off. SHOCKER! Maybe the third time is the charm. SHOCKER AGAIN! You could tell the box spring had been drug across the cement as it was filthy and torn. Try some super glue next time. Never asked again for them to repair as it was pointless. Shower small. Sink didn't drain. You had to hold the button on the hair dryer down to dry your hair or it turned off. What is that? Food - 1/5 Worst food ever. Definitely nothing resembling resort style food I have had before. No spices, no seasoning. Bacon was either well done or raw. Bugs crawling on the fruit. Dessert was beautiful but basically 10 kinds of gelatin sponge cake. Hot food was cold and cold food was hot. No warming trays - just trays stuck under a lamp. We made reservations for Mexican and Italian. The Mexican was small portions. It was ok and edible. Appetizer was guacamole and chips that tasted like you got it at a baseball game. Quesadillas were corn tortillas with 3 pieces of chicken and a few shreds of cheese - not folded and grilled - open and sad. The Italian was a 5/5. The chef who made that should be given a fat raise and his own staff. It was delicious, Had spice and flavor, Large portion. Perfect amount of sauce. Top 2 that I have ever had. Tiramasu for dessert and it was also fabulous. Again, if this was so over the top, what is the problem with the rest? Do not expect good food. We basically survived on pizza, french fries, ice cream, omlettes, toast and pancakes. Hard to screw those up, As for the reservations, those were made at check in with a printed ticket being given to me. It had name, day, time, # of guests and restaurant. BOTH times we were not on the list. While they did seat us, they were put out as if it was MY FAULT. What happened to customer service. Activities - 1/5 Karaoke was literally lame and boring. Circus show was just as bad, Entertainment from offsite did a little better but don't waste your time. They had bingo, ping pong, giant chess board and beach volleyball. In the pool they had Aqua Fit which was not bad. Now, the staff almost all spoke Spanish. If you did not speak up and tell them, too bad, There was not an effort made to speak English. Some basically ignored you once they knew you did not speak the language. I might as well have been a camel in the desert living off the water I stored in my humps. If I asked for water once I asked 10 times. They acknowledge and were never to be seen again. Grounds - 4/5 The grounds were well maintained. Beautiful, lush and green with the tropical feel you expect. Staff cut coconuts open for you to drink from in the morning. One drawback is the night lighting. Dim and opportunity to trip and fall. Beach was clean and had plenty of chairs. No bar service. Long lines as only 2 bar tenders. Drinks nothing to write home about. 4 pools that were all pretty good. One person serving. Took too long as she was taking the order and making the drinks. Again, only 2 bartenders at this location as well. I give her a 5/5 as she was working het butt off. No one wants to stand in line for drink for that amount of time. I think the reviews are mis-leading. Same people and same pictures. Are they making these up? Do your research.

    Great hotel !

Very nice hotel with great amenities and a top notch service, the staff was very nice, the only downsides (if there is any) would be the food quality that I didn’t find that good, but apart from that I had an amazing experience in this hotel ! Greatly recommend !

    Would not go back

The hotel app and schedule of activities was constantly changing. Even the staff said that the app may or may not be correct. The show at the theater on New Year's eve was cancelled - this was communicated later into the night and left little choices for families with kids to celebrate. How could it be New Years Eve with nothing going on at the resort. There was a party at the golf club house, a shuttle ride away, but we were told that it might not be "family friendly." Most of the staff at the kids club was great. One night we were turned away, doors locked 15 minutes before closing time. The staff just stood inside of the building shaking their heads at us. We called late at night for more toilet paper in our room and was told no one was working and to call back in the tomorrow. We were there as a large group, 14 in total, and when making reservations were were told we could only have the 6:00 time although the restaurants were never full when we went to dinner. While at the Italian restaurant, a glass was dropped by a staff member and broke on the floor close to our table. A server put a chair around the glass, which remained on the floor for an hour until a member from our party went and asked for a broom to clean it up himself. As a result a staff member came and cleaned it up. Although most of the food service was not good, while at the Italian restaurant it took 1 hour to get appetizers and 2 hours to get food. Members of our party walked to the lobby bar to get drinks for our entire table. The food overall was really a let down. The menus for dinner were were limited, which was 100% okay, but then to have the food take so long, come out cold was really disappointing. The only restaurants that were good was the Mexican restaurant and the Asian one. My daughters have food allergies and it was very hard to communicate and get information from staff. It also didn't help that at the buffet I would constantly see guest grabbing food with their hands and mixing up the serving utensils. Not good or food safe at all. Also, why are staff members that are working at the food stations on their phones?
