Dec 25, 2025Wonderful hotel in every way
We spent 9 days at Iberostar just before Christmas. It was a wonderful experience in every way. We were upgraded to a room overlooking the ocean which was a plus. We paid extra but it was worth it. Excellent service. The hotel was not overcrowded so we had no problem finding chairs by the pool or beach. Pleasant grounds. Dining choices were very good, from the buffet to the coffee shop to the snack bars. Special thumbs up to the Mexican restaurant which was excellent and no reservations required. One criticism: we were not impressed with the steak house where we needed reservations. The steak was not done how I ordered it, and was as tough as shoe leather. But all in all, the hotel is an excellent choice for travellers.

This review is solely about the accessibility booking process, not the resort overall. As a disabled traveler, I was extremely disappointed to be told that accessible rooms are “subject to availability,” despite my accessibility needs being disclosed more than eight months in advance. The experience was further impacted by poor customer service and a lack of meaningful engagement from management in attempting to resolve the issue. If you require accessible accommodations, I strongly recommend contacting the hotel directly and obtaining written confirmation, rather than relying on third-party bookings. It is difficult to understand how accessibility can remain “subject to availability” when disclosed well in advance. For comparison, we have stayed with the Barceló brand multiple times and have consistently received confirmed accessible rooms at the time of booking.

Fabulous
Fabulous. The pictures online do not do this place justice. Well laid out, fantastic beach and fabulous staff. Special shout out to Luis and his crew at the Sunset Bar. Laughter and always a good time. Also Rundolfo in the Pacific Express restaurant was wonderful. Great suggestions, great service, great smile. You made both our visits the restaurant so very special. Thank you to everyone on staff for making our trip unforgettable.

Outstanding Kids Club & Staff – Karen Was Incredible This is my first TripAdvisor review, and I felt compelled to write it because of Karen at the kids club. The kids club at Iberostar was truly excellent. Our son has never wanted to participate in a kids club before and usually has no interest at all. Karen went above and beyond every single day to encourage him to join activities. She was kind, patient, and never pushy—just genuinely caring. Because of her efforts, he eventually participated. Karen remembered his name and greeted him multiple times a day, which really helped him feel comfortable and confident. The kids club itself offers a wide variety of activities and is one of the best we have experienced. Karen is a huge asset to this resort and deserves special recognition. The pool area is very large. While the water could be a bit warmer (I personally prefer a warm pool), it was still enjoyable and we’ve experienced colder pools elsewhere. There was always chairs by the pool area so you don’t have to get up early to go save a chair The food was our least favourite aspect of the resort. It was okay overall, but many dishes were often not very warm, with the exception of the specialty restaurant, which was much better. The service throughout the resort was good, and staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, Karen and the kids club played a major role in making this trip memorable for our family. Thank you to Iberostar for having such a wonderful team member.

Iberostar Selection Playa Mita
Iberostar Selection Playa Mita never disappoints! It begins with a hard working conscientious management team that has set the stage for a positive and harmonious workplace environment. We would especially like to thank Rafael. Head chef Christian and his wonderful team consisting of Miguel, Pepe, Estefania, Doroteo, and Belqui are doing an amazing job at the Iberostar Playa Mita. After 29 days we can say in all honesty that the buffets have been consistently delicious and always intriguing. A big shout out to Louis! He is in charge of the evening pasta and pizza stations. His pasta sauces are delicious and his joyful personality is certainly contagious! We would also like to think our waiter Christian from the dinner buffet. He did a spectacular job, ensuring that our dining experience was the best it could be! We would like to give very big thank you to the Prestige team led by Stephannie and supported by Emmanuel, Ana and Miguel. From the moment we arrived we knew we were in great hands. They all did their very best to ensure that we had a fabulous holiday. It was also a pleasure having Jenny there on the Prestige deck to ensure that all guests were well taken care of. She is truly an amazing lady. Vincente’s beverages on the Prestige deck and Pedro’s beverages in the prestige lounge were consistently well-made and delicious. Also, everyone enjoyed guest appearances on the Prestige deck by bartender Adrian. He made the greatest shooters and was always great fun to be with!! Enrique did a super job making sure that guests on the Prestige deck were comfortable and that washrooms were pristine. His work ethic is an example to all. Judith did an exceptional job attending to our room. Our bed was always beautifully made, towels were replaced as needed and all amenities were in place. We truly look forward to our next vacation at the Iberostar Selection Playa Mita!!

Hotel Spring Break Policy - The resort is a family oriented environment and thus has implemented the following policy for Spring Breakers reservations. The valid period is March 1st, 2020 to April 30th, 2020. Spring Breakers are defined as Students/youth between 16 and 23 years of age.
- One parent or chaperone at least 25 years of age will be required per room for check-in. Adults accompanying are responsible for the students’ behavior.
- In the event that any guest(s) engage in inappropriate behavior disrespecting Hotel staff and/or other guests or causing physical damages to the facilities, the Hotel Management reserves the right to expel the guest(s) without reimbursement or refund of the remaining nights.Spring Break Groups Policy - Students/youth are considered between 16 and 23 years of age.
