  Not a Great Stay, Used to be a Favorite

  We spent 9 nights at this resort in early December, 2025. It was our third visit to this property and while we have had some great stays at this resort, this one was not as good as previously. The biggest concern we had, for the second year in a row, was the air conditioning. We had problems in our room last year where the A/C worked, but it wasn't cool enough. This year the A/C went out completely resort-wide. No air conditioning in your room, in restaurants, or the lobby bar. It went out on day 3 and never returned. It was brutal and it ruined our vacation, full stop. It is an awful shame as well, since this is otherwise a good resort. The staff and the service, food and drinks at this resort are quite good in our experience. The rooms are clean, if getting a little dated, and the beds are very comfortable. But the only relief from the heat was the pool. Well, you can't sleep in the pool. It was almost impossible to get a good night's sleep. The rooms have ceiling fans and that was a life-saver, and after speaking several times to management, staff produced a large industrial fan to accompany the ceiling fan, which made a moderate difference. It would be easy to say that this was just bad luck, but we did have that issue the year before. That tells me that they have an infrastructure issue that is serious and hasn't been properly addressed. Furthermore, this resort only opened in December of 2013, yet there are these kinds of issues in a hotel that is only 12 years old. The positives were the staff, who faced the anger of many an angry guest with grace and professionalism, the food, the animation staff (thank you Marco!) and the pool bar staff (thank you Adrian!). The staff at the lobby bar were also excellent (thank you Mayra!). The concierges were also very helpful and always checking up on us (thank you Angel!). The laundry service was also excellent and affordable, it was 485 pesos (roughly $37 Canadian) for a load of bathing suits, underwear, pajamas, workout wear, one pair of shorts and three tops and it took just under three hours round trip from the room and back again. They were able to remove a red wine mishap from a white t-shirt and a pair of shorts with no trace whatsoever that it was ever there. It is also worth noting that this resort is very clean. We would call it spotless. Maid service in the room was very good and the whole resort is just very clean. No matter where you look you always see somebody cleaning something. We can also say that while the animation staff do a great job, it does tend to get rather loud at the pool. If a quiet vacation is your thing, this might not be for you. For us, we enjoyed watching all of the activities and games at the pool. A lot of fun. With respect to the location, you are quite isolated that far out. It takes about 45-50 minutes from the airport as long as your transportation doesn't have to stop elsewhere. There really is nowhere to do any real shopping or experience off-resort restaurants unless you take a shuttle or cab/uber to Sayulita, Bucerias or Vallarta. The beach was a bit rocky this year, but you can walk for a long ways. Caution: there is an area about 10 minutes walk north down the beach where there is a swamp. Stay on the beach and avoid that swamp as there are crocs in there. They don't tend to come down to the beach. At this point we find it hard to recommend this resort anymore. That's hard for us to say because it was one of our favorites. But, we won't be returning anytime soon. Quick facts: Hair dryer: yes - a good one. Seemed professional grade. Room mini fridge: yes (coke products, sparkling water, Dos Equis) Wifi: yes, very good resort-wide. A-la cartes: Japanese (very good) and Steakhouse need reservations; French and Mexican are first come first served. Gym: Yes, one recumbent bike, one regular bike, one elliptical, one stairmaster, 3 treadmills, lots of weights and machines. Gets hot. If you have questions we would be happy to answer.

  A wonderful time

  We had a great time at this resort. This was our first time in the area. Emmanuel and Gerrardo made our experience a delight at the star prestige club.

  Excellent first visit to Mexico!!!

  Excellent resort. Very clean. Comfortable rooms. Beautiful pool area. Best of all - the staff are amazing - especially Oscar and Marco Polo. Such helpful young men. You can tell when people truly like their work. They made us feel welcome. True Mexican hospitality. Highly recommend staying at the Iberostar selection playa Mita!

  Lovely property but several disappointment

  This was our 2nd time here, first time was Nov 2019. Unfortunately this property and service was not as superb as it was the last time. 7 of us travelled all for our 2nd time. The things we loved, the overall property and common areas are well kept and beautiful, easy to get around and on a gorgeous stretch of beach. Food was decent but not delicious and amazing like we had remembered, tacos at the beach bar were amazing. Pools were a nice temp. Beach staff was incredible along with many of the staff. Loved the rooftop bar along the ocean, and Staff were incredible there. Disappointment s included, Unfortunately this resort advertises queen beds for rooms with 2 beds, but sadly they were doubles. The rooms were not that clean, the sheets appeared to be clean thankfully, but the floors, and bathrooms were not. The crud in the corners in the bathroom under the vanity was disgusting, I could see a ring around the bathtub, and when we arrived there was toothpaste all over the wooden border of the mirror and wall, at first I thought it was paint but then tried to wipe it with a damp Wash cloth. There was dust thick all over the room and fixtures, and dust under bed. Sad, Not acceptable for that caliber hotel. This was our 10th visit to Mexico, never have we ever had things go missing from our room but we had several things disappear sadly luckily nothing of significant value, thinking they were misplaced I did not say anything but after arriving home realized was not mistaken, it was small items like hair clips and pharmaceuticals but definitely gone and verified by the others in the room that they had not moved items, we all checked all the drawers and under beds. Definitely a first in all our times. Was not a deal breaker, over all we loved the time there but would cautiously go again possibly. At the end no one even asked how our stay was which I thought was odd.

  Crocodile Warning

  I am writing two reviews of week’s stay at the resort. This one is for the potential danger of crocodiles about 200 metres along the beach from the resort. I want to be clear that the lagoon where crocodiles live is not on the resort property but it is within easy reach and the access is unprotected because it is right beside the beach. This past week one of our group took the attached photo of what looks to be an 8-10 foot crocodile on the shore of the lagoon. There are warning signs at the lagoon about the potential danger of crocodiles but for various reasons, the area cannot be separated by some kind of barrier from the beach itself. I am posting this only as an additional warning so parents realize that the potential danger exists.
