Horrible service from upper management down: American Express Fine Hotel and Hyatt Globalist guest at Hyatt Regency SOMA
We checked in to the Hyatt Regency SOMA with an American Express Fine Hotels reservation and also as a Hyatt Globalist Elite guest. The check-in experience was the second worst ever. The associate, who was sorting envelopes, asked me for the Amex used to guarantee the room and that Amex is owned by American Express, not me. Not one but two managers gaslit and shamed me in error that I had to have the virtual American Express card Amex Fine Hotels uses to make these prepaid reservations and though recorded, absolutely refused to listen to me that I did not have that card in my possession. I was told I could guarantee with another card, but that none of the Amex Fine Hotel benefits would apply to my stay. I was also extorted that I could just leave even though my prepaid reservation with American Express was non-refundable. The manager on duty forced me to phone American Express (instead of him just doing it himself) stating "...we are following the rules of American Express..." and handed me a piece of paper with "rules" written on it that had nothing to do with what these Hyatt personnel and management were forcing upon me. Upon explaining this on a recorded phone to American Express Fine Hotels (Travel), their representative said they had never heard of this ever before. A virtual card is always used, and there is never an issue with the hotels accepting this. When she put me on hold for close to 15 minutes, that same manager on duty came over and said I could now check in. I told him I was still on hold with American Express. He displayed similar antipathy as before, and certainly zero responsibility-taking for what he and his personnel had put me through up to that point. I finished the recorded call with Amex about 15 minutes later, and the check in process remained strained. I was never "seen" as a Globalist Elite or given the typical benefits of a Globalist that were not a part of the Amex benefits. The overall stay was negative. This hotel is managed in a way that feels disrespectful or even deceitful. Late on the evening of December 24, the coffee machine (it makes lattes, etc.) in the Regency Lounge was working. Hours later for breakfast, and for the next two mornings/days, it had a "not in operation" sign on it, forcing Globalist Elites and those who paid for Lounge access to pay for their drinks. This Lounge is also one of this in that trend who make paying patrons pay for even a beer: even the least expensive alcoholic beverages are locked and cost a minimum of $7. Contrast this to most lounges were mixed drinks are part of the cost of access. I would never recommend this property. Add to that how we were treated upon check-in, and I suggest to American Express to expel this property from its Fine Hotels and Resorts list.

We love the Hyatt SF MOMA hotel
We love the Hyatt SF MOMA. I have brought my parents (who are in their 80's) to this hotel three years in a row now for a short SF holiday vacation. The rooms are modern, clean and spacious. The beds are comfortable and the fan and the room temperature are adjustable. We stay on the upper floors where the views are terrific. We love the breakfast buffet which is included with the King Club reservation. The hotel is convenient to SF MOMA museum, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, a variety of good restaurants and public transportation. We have had a positive experience every time. Also, 3rd Street (outside) seems cleaner and felt nicer this year (2025) than it has in years past.

Highly recommended
An absolutely fantastic experience. Very walkable to a bunch of attractions in downtown San Francisco. We were on a very high floor and had a magnificent view. And the Christmas decorations were amazing.

Loved This Hotel
We loved this hotel. We felt very taken care of in every aspect. In great location not far from Union Square, comfortable beds, great views, helpful staff. Nice dining option and bar area off lobby with market for snacks, coffee, etc. Would definitely recommend and stay here again!

Exceeded expectations
Recently refreshed hotel with nice touches in the guest rooms like ceramic coffee mugs and a carafe for iced water. A few minutes walk to BART and MUNI metro. No noise inside or outside for a Friday to Sunday stay. Attentive housekeeping.
