Feb 08, 2026Resort feel in heart of Newport Beach !
We just returned from the Hyatt at Newport Beach. Our first visit. We stayed in room 256. Executive suite. Very roomy. 2 patios facing the Executive golf course. We left Dallas that was loaded with winter ice. Newport was paradise.65-75 temps. Older property. Well maintained. Loved eating breakfast and dinner outside. More interesting than main dining. All staff was very supportive and polite. Valets , housekeeping. Had a problem with my reservation due to our flight being cancelled. But a special shout out to Marianna Vera Moreno Asst Director. She helped me save $756 from Hyatt central reservation error. Grounds are in great condition. We appreciate Color in the Winter. Definitely feels like a resort. Fantastic location. 15 minutes from John Wayne airport. Great restaurants nearby. Balboa, Fashion Island all close. We’ll go back . Bob Evans Dallas

Feb 05, 2026Started off really poor, but Marianna tried to make it right.
We used our Hyatt points that I earned through stays and using my Hyatt credit card to book our stay. When we arrived, we were put in the old building in 2 of the worst rooms I’ve ever seen at a Hyatt. When I went back to the front desk and asked to speak with a manager, a guy came out who told me that I should be happy with the rooms since I used points and didn’t “pay” for my rooms. When I explained to him that people who earn enough points to qualify for a free night shows that they are loyal Hyatt customers, spend a lot of money to earn those points, and shouldn’t be penalized with old nasty rooms for their loyalty, he again told me that you get what you get when you use points. I ended up frustrated as heck after speaking with this “manager,” as he clearly doesn’t appreciate loyalty and thinks that a customer who has spent enough money with Hyatt to earn enough points for a free night aren’t as valuable as someone who paid for a night at the hotel. I ended up asking for his supervisor, and I was lucky enough to speak with Marianna, who was clearly frustrated with how her colleague was treating us. She did her very best to make us feel valued and upgraded us to a different room (although we still had to pay $500 for the room change). I appreciate that Marianna was so kind and helpful, but after speaking with such an obnoxious and clearly clueless guy before her, we were still frustrated that it took getting to her to make things right.

Feb 02, 2026Rooms are Falsely advertised
The room location was in the back building which appears to look like a cheap motel and not at all what is advertised online. The room location was loud and bed was hard and uncomfortable and there are no elevators. So if you have a problem walking upstairs, you're out of luck.

A not so Ho-Ho-Ho Stay
The hotel is in a great location, even if you are walking, though wear some good shoes. The grounds are pleasant but our stay was marred because of a lazy maid who, rather than placing new sheets on the bed, simply readjusted the sheets. Imagine my wife's surprise when later that evening she discovers a used straw stuck to her rear end. Also, though I may be in the minority, I was very disappointed to see that the books which had formed a small library retreat had been replaced with dozens of game stations.

Dissapointing
This hotel is now fairly tired - the grounds are lovely, but the rooms and fitness centre are unchanged for a decade, and it's really starting to show. Watch out for extortionate pet fees too ($150 for a single night)
