Sep 10, 2025A peaceful week
Our stay was excellent. The rooms are large with a huge Veranda overlooking the ocean. We liked the fact it had a small kitchen. A full breakfast is provided by the pool. The restaurant also provides a full French menu. But I had a burger. LOL We shopped at a small shop in Orient Bay (Petit Casino) Which provided the basics but there was a large grocery store about a 10 minute drive away offering a western style shopping experience. First night we were there the shower flooded out. No issue the next morning they moved us to a new room. Staff were all friendly and as this was coming into the slow season there was a lot of updates being done such as new air conditioning systems being installed. Late night room entertainment. tv offers about 6 French tv channels from France and ESPN. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Very nice resort (except the bar manager)
We very much enjoyed our stay, and I must say the staff is very friendly and helpful. For instance, I asked at the desk for ice and the lady went out of her way to find a bag for me free of charge. Only minor exceptions. They give you a gift card at check in that reads for 'One free cocktail' but the lady that runs the bar refused it and told my wife that is for 'the juice that goes in the cocktail, not for the cocktail'. The next day I asked the bar lady for a bottle of water so I could make ice. (The desalinated tap water is ok to drink but not the best). She gave me the more expensive brand bottle and charged me $10. The bar is owned by her, not the hotel. She was an unpleasant person. But the other bartender employee and restaurant staff were very nice. It would be a much better experience if they would just get rid of that bar owner/manager. Great location. Orient Beach currently was full of Sargassum weed but a short drive to other beaches which had none. We found renting a car was best and the cost is less than the taxi ride from SXM so it pays for itself in that sense and you can explore every place..

Casual beach chic
We are return visitors to La Plantation. We love the spacious jr suite with ocean view. The property is low rise and spread over several acres. We walk to the beach, to breakfast and to the Village. We do not find we need a car. You can ferry to St Barthes, take a catamaran snorkeling trip, or shop in Fredrickberg. Wonderful property!

Mar 03, 2025A once great hotel, now terrible.
Beware the classic hotel scam. The rooms and views on the site are not reflective of the actual views, and the hotel will refuse to move you. We were down on the lower 'level' put next to the traffic circle. Bright security lights and cameras look directly into your room, noisy traffic, no view. Also I fell through the deck; when I pointed this out, the hotelier denied it. They also used to offer a much better breakfast, now it's just the same low-cost thing every day. Won't be staying here again. Méfiez-vous de l'arnaque classique des hôtels. Les chambres et les vues sur le site ne reflètent pas les vues réelles, et l'hôtel refusera de vous déplacer. Nous étions au « niveau » inférieur, à côté du rond-point. Des lumières de sécurité et des caméras brillantes regardent directement dans votre chambre, la circulation est bruyante, aucune vue. De plus, je suis tombé à travers la terrasse ; lorsque je l'ai signalé, l'hôtelier a nié. Je ne reviendrai pas ici. Safety: Beware the rotten deck(s) especially with kids.

Finally, back to SXM!
We very much enjoyed our stay at La Plantation. Our unit was clean and comfortable with spectacular views. The staff were friendly and helpful, the property well kept. Beautiful Orient Beach, as well as the village stores and restaurants are walking distance, but would be a bit of a hike for some, however, a short car ride for them. We enjoyed the morning breakfast each day. We have stayed here before, not been back to SXM since Hurricane Irma in 2017. We are happy to say the Island is great as always, La Plantation has never disappointed, we would gladly visit again.
