Dec 01, 2025Staff let this hotel down
The check in lady couldn’t have been more uninterested and unhelpful if she tried. Handed us the room key without any further information what soever. Rolled her eyes every time I asked a question. Gave wrong parking information. The stepreet parking out the front is only for 2 hours. Across the street is all day parking. Lots of homeless around the hotel but they were no problem. This hotel has so much potential but they were staff are letting it down. The rooms and breakfast were great.

Request to stay on a higher floor. Lots of street noise and partying going on floor 1 & 2.
Check-in staff was not great. Check-out staff the next day was great. Do just guests stay here or is there some longer term residents on the first floor?

Oct 06, 2025Frustrating Experience
I had an extremely disappointing experience with Homewood Suites Downtown Utah. Despite booking and fully prepaying for my stay months in advance for my stay on September 6–10, 2025, my confirmed reservation was not honored when I arrived. After landing early at the airport, I called the hotel to ask if we could check in early. The front desk said no, which was perfectly fine. However, when we arrived at the hotel to drop off our luggages to explore the city, they told me they were sold out and could not accommodate my colleague and I — even though I had a valid Hilton confirmation number. The staff casually said they “forgot" to tell me over the phone when I called earlier. They told me they would relocate me to a Hilton near the airport, which was confirmed during a recorded call with my credit card company. Before leaving, I specifically asked if there was anything else I needed to confirm the reservation at that Hilton at the Airport. The front desk said no — but that turned out to be false. To make things worse, I asked if Hilton could accommodate the Uber fare to the new hotel since it was back near the airport — the same place I had just come from — and they refused. When we arrived at the Hilton at the airport, the front desk there said they had no record of any arrangement and that no one had contacted them about the relocation. After another phone call with Homewood Suites SL Downtown, I was told that I had “misheard” and that I was actually being sent to a different hotel near the airport — not the Hilton. That new hotel was of significantly lower quality, in a different area, and absolutely not comparable to the original reservation. I would have rather slept in my car than stay there, but I was traveling with another guest and didn’t have my vehicle, so I had no choice but to accept. This entire ordeal caused significant inconvenience, extra expenses, and enormous stress during a professional conference. I’ve spent more than five hours on the phone with Hilton and Capital One Travel trying to resolve this, and I’m still waiting for a full refund and compensation. I expected far better from Hilton. This experience was frustrating, dishonest, and unacceptable — especially for a loyal customer who booked well in advance.

Aug 13, 2025Clean Room, But $20 Per Night Parking
We ended up with a suite that had a living area, a full kitchen, and a TV in the bedroom and one in the living room, which was nice. The room was clean and the front desk staff was nice. The drawback was $20 a night for garage parking. The other alternative is free street parking.

Close but not close to Amtrak
We stayed at Homewood Suites to stage a 3am departure on Amtrak from SLC to Denver. The hotel was as close as we could get, but still it was a 30 minute slog with luggage to get to the Amtrak boarding platform. It is doable, but if this is your hope, it’s probably better to get an early Uber. The hotel hallway to the room we were given was under construction, replacing carpets, somewhat unsightly. The room itself was OK with kitchenette, clean, staff were friendly, but had no idea about how to get to Amtrak which was curious given this hotel is the closest boarding option available. Beds were soft, heavy use, but adequate. Adequate is my word for this hotel stay. Highly purposeful, but certainly not a 5 star setting.
