The picture is worth a thousand words…..they just aren’t the ones the hotel likely wants to hear.

I rated this poorly for a few reasons: 1) Lack of truth in advertising and/or what seems to be a “bait and switch”. What you see in the photo is this nice, new, modern, brightly lit, hotel. What you don’t see are the dated buildings and rooms behind it, built in the 1950-1970s where attempts to modernize appear to be more like lipstick on a pig. I was very disappointed the establishment either omits the fact the majority of rooms are in these older, dated building and lack any sort of transparency. 2) Well over-priced for the accommodations, given the dated nature of the rooms, locations, poor parking accommodations (which you pay more for). 3) The access cards to get into the parking areas errored out many times before it would finally work and open the gate. Very frustrating 4) The smell of rotten eggs when turning on the water in the bathroom sink and it happened each time I opened the tap. Thank god I had bottled water as I would not drink or put in my mouth the water coming from the tap. The only real upsides were that the room was spacious, even if not well laid out (very narrow entry with an odd looking counter which held a very loud microwave and the internet, which worked well and had good speeds. I travel a fair amount and have stayed in many wonderful and not-so-wonderful places. I will not stay here again.

    Fine 3-stars hotel

The San Diego Bayside Holiday Inn is a typical three star hotel with decent conference facilities. I stayed there two nights for a training event. I purposefully requested a renovated room based on the reviews here, since it's not evident on the booking website which rooms are updated. At check-in, I attempted to confirm the room category as refurbished, and the receptionist (probably new or poorly trained) didn't seem to know what I was talking about. I am still unsure if the rooms in Tower A are the remodeled ones or not - I think they are! The room is comfortable and functional, with a TV and a desk, ironing board, alarm clock, etc. The bathroom was very basic and had a slightly odd odor, but worked fine. The hotel is located across from a commercial pier area, with many nice restaurants and a walking path. I particularly recommend Mitch's seafood, which had outstanding fish dishes and a bar style setting.

Don't recommend this hotel for SDCC

Stayed here last July for SDCC. The hotel we were booking on line through the virtual portal was very different from the hotel that we stayed in. The photos that are shown are for the renovated tower. The majority of Comic Con goers were given rooms at the back of the property in old, not updated motel rooms. The room was very outdated, was not well maintained and was very dark. Our room was not inside as originally advertised. Our room was accessible from the road and parking lot with people walking by our window all night. We basically beg for the hotel to help and even called the IHG head office requesting a new room and because they were at capacity they basically ignored us. We thought we were going to be several floors up in a really nice modern hotel room instead we were given a motel room on the side of the road. We splurged to get a nicer hotel than the Mission Valley region but in the end it was one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in.

    Great location, great hotel

I stayed here for 5 nights on business. Great location close to the interstate and airport to get in and out of San Diego, but close to some great local bars and restaurants. Spacious and spotless rooms, would definitely stay here again. The staff were really helpful throughout.

Great location, could be hard to navigate from front desk to room for anyone with challenges

Bayside is right! Location right next to the docks and near some good restaurants. From the front check-in desk to the room can be quite a hike, past several buildings. When it's night, the hike is in the dark. To avoid running around in the dark by myself, I tried to get room service. Although the front desk gave me room service hours and they were listed on a flyer in the elevator, when I tried to get room service, there was none. So I did have to run around in the dark to get something to eat. The food was very good, though.
